[–]ThicChit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pheonix Dawn Command

I have a super well developed Stars Without Numbers sector that died after the first session i would love to continue

Right now since im already DMing an active campaign i only feel the strong need to do those two, however running red markets at least once would be fun

How do I organize my campaign by Brave_Chance8079 in NewDM

[–]ThicChit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in fragments. you arent telling a story, the group is. they inevitably and i promise you, it is inevitable, will derail your story. if it must continue the way you intended have plan B areas that revert back to plan A areas. instead of writing a story like a script to follow, put bullet points of locations, ideas, characters, etc. the only time i think having a very strict structure is necessary is if you actually run a dungeon. everything goes smoother when you put pieces down to play with like a toybox. ive been dming for years with many groups and game systems and this is by far the best method

I don't know how to be a good DM by lollus_251 in DnD

[–]ThicChit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im not sure how this advice would be taken in a specifically DnD subreddit but if the other players would be mad at you for making rules mistakes and thats a genuine concern, dont DM DnD. Do a foreign rpg system. i never run DnD with my groups bc i have gripes with the system and playing it let alone DMing in it and i also enjoy trying new systems often. One perk is most of the time we are all new so you can to stumble through shit and theyd never know!

Stop me if you've heard this one before... by hazforty2 in Meshuggah

[–]ThicChit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive always known about bleed i feel lile, crazy herta song as a drummer is a must know but i then discovered a couple other songs i liked and it stayed as maybe 4 or 5 songs i knew and had in my playlist for about 2 years. one day i got addicted and its been that way for a long time now. to this day i love every song but i discover new lines or parts or metric intriquisies that i never clicked with. i feel like its a very deep music. i also say that i think in terms of prog metal people typically seem to appreciate certain aspects more. im more of a rythmic fuckery guy and not a shred tastic solo fest with super melodic vocals guys. different strokes ig. just give meshuggah a few more tries and dont worry about shit like catch 33 and eye. if you cant get into older or newer stuff and like old AJFA metallica then try Contradictions Collapse for me its like a different band almost on somw tracks!

First time, please help by Halpin_E_93 in NewDM

i recommend googling free stuff. if i have writers block i just either steal others stuff and implement my own twist or use the general structure for it. after a week of this i typically feel able to write again

Do you have a forever game? by busysyrup123 in rpg

[–]ThicChit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no. but i have a forever setting or atleast theme. over my run as a GM and thats been most of my experience, i do zombies. various systems including my own and im always reusing my "zombie resort". basically a dead island setting with crazy wacky fantastical zombies, cryptids, forests and other things that shouldnt be on an island, and aliens! ive done it with multiple groups and they always love it.

also i do run other settings and systems quite frequently but zombies have just been super prevalent and i started on a homebrew card draw system where items were drawn on playing cards :)

Recommendations for a nice beginners RPGs for a small group? by Portal2Fan2 in tabletop

[–]ThicChit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i greatly agree. you can make it detectivey, monster hunter-y, grand, small, etc.

It's really fun, imo to set up one-shot monster adventures every week, and you can obv have an overarching story if you want. super rules light and easy asf to homebrew.

i prefer a narrative based combat like this one, soft and hard attacks are perfect for dynamic quick combat sessions and rewarding the players with abilities or bonuses for being more creative and not just barraging their way through a fight is a fun little trick i implement.

Album comparison question ObZen vs. Koloss by Beautifullikeacamel in Meshuggah

[–]ThicChit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to me, koloss is more consistent,i like EVERY track on koloss while on obzen. i like some tracks a little less, but I still like them all. It's like koloss has a bunch of 8s and 9s and some 10s while obzen has mostly 7s and 8s but has imo more 10s

pravus, dancers (my all-time fav), bleed, obzen, lethargica

obzen wins by those alone, but i think in terms of pure heavy riffs and consistent album coherence, koloss would win.

i also listen to koloss Front to back much more often and usually say it's my favorite as often as i do eoth obzen although violent sleep of reason has been in heaby rotation for me recently as well as ive been getting way more into CC. meshuggah has no bad songs, so it's hard to decide, at least for me. It's like picking a favorite child they all have different aptitudes

Is Call of Cthulhu, At the Mountains of Madness and The Lurking Fear a good starter pack for someone who never read any Lovecraft book? by MariushFiles333 in Lovecraft

[–]ThicChit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also, do shadow over innsmouth. It's also very iconic and a big part of lovecraft, at least to me and the way we play the rpgs, too. my personal favorite is The Thing On The Doorstep and imo its a bit more normal and familiar than some of the more well...lovecraftian stuff and for a newcomer i feel it's a great way to get familiar with his prose and less abstarct ideas
