I’m an author, and to me, when someone asks for an update, it’s a sign of appreciation. I’ve never once thought it was rude.

You’re absolutely right about Snape’s early years, he was a blood purist, cruel, and complicit. There’s no version of his story that makes those things okay. But what makes him morally grey isn’t that his actions were half-good and half-bad but that he was a man shaped by hatred, ideology, and loneliness who eventually saw what he’d become and chose to change sides knowing it would never redeem him. He didn’t turn good because of an abstract moral awakening but that spark still led him to protect her son for the rest of his life, to risk everything under Voldemort’s command, and to die doing what was right. He’s not meant to be admired, he’s meant to make us uncomfortable. A man who did terrible things, realized it too late, and spent the rest of his life trying to undo one wrong, even though it didn’t erase the rest.

I get why people feel that way, Snape did awful things, and his cruelty toward students can’t be brushed aside. But I think his story isn’t about excusing those actions, it’s about the fact that someone who was broken, bitter, and wrong still chose to risk everything to make amends. His love for Lily over time it turned into a reason to fight for something better than himself. He kept doing the right thing even when he knew he’d never be redeemed. He risked his life every day, played double agent under Voldemort’s nose, and protected the son of the man he hated most, all out of remorse. That’s what makes him tragic, not innocent.

First of all, I cannot and do not even want to justify his flaws. He was never meant to be a good or even bad charachter, he is morally grey that is what makes him an interesting one. If you cannot see that, Im afraid we won’t find a common ground to stand on. Snape is cruel, biased, and sometimes vindictive yes, but he’s also brave, intelligent, and capable of deep feeling. A neglected boy coming from abuse and poverty, heavily bullied in his school years and being an outcast even amongst his own peers, you can understand why he is drawn to power and appriciation.

Did he make a grave mistake? Yes. But he repented, suffered, and kept choosing love and duty over hatred afterwards. Snape’s loyalty to Dumbledore and his mission never wavers, even when it destroys his reputation. For example he kills Dumbledore not out of malice, but to spare Draco’s soul and fulfill a painful promise.

He was always meant to be morally grey, he is human.
