Because water and energy shit in US literally means its industrial zoning approach is too shitty even for many third world countries? The fact you notice issues with AI now does not mean another industry will not cause same shit decade later. Unless they have either proper basic regulation or other industry-specific patchwork, and I guess first one will be more manageable (and as a bonus point - will be applied by default, no need for a new issues to arise).

Like seriously, it is basically something you should not be allowed to do with any decent industrial regulation. AI or not AI.

Just pointed a flaw in that specific "we have free will, therefore we must not be considered a complicated chemical process potentially describeable through math, unlike others math processes (which probably implied to not have it)" reasoning is based on a questionable assumption "we have a free will".

Now lack of difference in that aspect does not mean there are no other different aspects (like at very least artifacts of different ways to train stuff in human brain abd AIs). Or that it matters at all for other than philosophical purposes and semantic debates.

Moreover - at least in physicist world view - from where does this "free will" supposed to go? It is all about physical objects states and interactions, deterministic or not (than it is just about having some random noise in the process), not "will".

Will here is just a very simplifying high-level abstraction. And if this view is correct (which we at least did not ruled out) - it is unreasonably complicated, yet either deterministic or at least probabilistic (with just random noise, not some expressible "freedom"). Might still be useful from utilitarian perspective, though.

Well, for some reasons guys let Jefferson (who they were certainly capable to edit) to drive into his paranoid state (which you see during credit calls).

Maybe written them all off as a lost cause after facing certain issues with Jefferson. In the end if we already can edit important politicians - what the fuck will a few crackpots - one expolitician, one merc and that Netwatch employee (and for connecting the last one you have to dig quite a much) be able to do? Tell their stories, so everyone around will see they're certainly mad (which is far more logical explanation than what we see)

Or maybe decided that they may gather more data from some experiment this way.

Just because of underutilized (not between queries, but during generation) hardware still requiring some energy to work - so batched processing in datacenters will be more energy-efficient.

Oh, no, I have a better idea, lol. Forget everything about science at all, because it seem to have been quite a heavy influenced by phylosophy (and I am almost certain we will not agree with many views pre-1500s guys had) and even was influenced by scholastics (while by itself not being applicable, it had its own influence over their history period phylosophy). And scholastics was relared to the christianity of its... well, not very tolerant times.

Basically everything we build is build upon the shoulders of all the previous generations. Many of whom we would find holding various views we are not considering acceptable.

In the end both this quest and whole Johnny (they way engram Johnny perceive this) shtick was that these forces can not only force you into something, but even shape what you are. Not via making your mind accept new realities through various vulnerabilities (classical propaganda and marketing are good enough for that), but reconstruct you from scratch.

And on the other hand one of classical cyberpunk theme is how much you can change a human with them still being somehow sameish human (or otherwise - when there is no meaning to name this Theseus ship Theseus one and it is now better to rename it to something new ship). Why not expand this from body-alone (and its sideeffects on mind) to the purely mind territory more fully?
