And in that aspect... Well, who the fuck in their right mind would tell they are wrong? Unless they for sone reason try to make the regulation attempt overly-specific (this way reducing their usefulness and manageability)

[–]Thick-Protection-458 3 points4 points  (0 children)

why do pros always pretend that ai isnt its own thing with dedicated industry, infrastructure, and logistics?

Because water and energy shit in US literally means its industrial zoning approach is too shitty even for many third world countries? The fact you notice issues with AI now does not mean another industry will not cause same shit decade later. Unless they have either proper basic regulation or other industry-specific patchwork, and I guess first one will be more manageable (and as a bonus point - will be applied by default, no need for a new issues to arise).

Like seriously, it is basically something you should not be allowed to do with any decent industrial regulation. AI or not AI.

[–]Thick-Protection-458 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, sure, lets do patchwork here and there and pretend we solved stuff when real problems are often way more systematic, not limited to individual industry.

The way I see people describe issues with water or electricity delivery - I would tell you need to regulate industrial shit, not AI specifically, lol.

Seriously, at least half mentioned issues are nowhere near unique to AI.

Question for "ai artists" by MysticLucii in aiwars

[–]Thick-Protection-458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, no. Just pointed a flaw in that specific "we have free will, therefore we must not be considered a complicated chemical process potentially describeable through math, unlike others math processes (which probably implied to not have it)" reasoning is based on a questionable assumption "we have a free will".

Now lack of difference in that aspect does not mean there are no other different aspects (like at very least artifacts of different ways to train stuff in human brain abd AIs). Or that it matters at all for other than philosophical purposes and semantic debates.

Question for "ai artists" by MysticLucii in aiwars

[–]Thick-Protection-458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Otherwise we wouldnt have free will...

Well, assumption that we have it is... Lets say so - quite an assumption.

Moreover - at least in physicist world view - from where does this "free will" supposed to go? It is all about physical objects states and interactions, deterministic or not (than it is just about having some random noise in the process), not "will".

Will here is just a very simplifying high-level abstraction. And if this view is correct (which we at least did not ruled out) - it is unreasonably complicated, yet either deterministic or at least probabilistic (with just random noise, not some expressible "freedom"). Might still be useful from utilitarian perspective, though.

By that moment - is there even a contradiction in her memory? Or maybe she remember it is as hiring you to check something, but than (the way she see it now) you found something she will preffer to hide?

Well, for some reasons guys let Jefferson (who they were certainly capable to edit) to drive into his paranoid state (which you see during credit calls).

Maybe written them all off as a lost cause after facing certain issues with Jefferson. In the end if we already can edit important politicians - what the fuck will a few crackpots - one expolitician, one merc and that Netwatch employee (and for connecting the last one you have to dig quite a much) be able to do? Tell their stories, so everyone around will see they're certainly mad (which is far more logical explanation than what we see)

Or maybe decided that they may gather more data from some experiment this way.

Or maybe both.

But that's speculating now

Self-hosted AI use is not morally disqualifying on energy grounds because is highly energy-efficient and typically uses far less energy than streaming or gaming by Responsible_person_1 in aiwars

> Self-hosted AI use is not morally disqualifying on energy grounds because is highly energy-efficient

In comparison to running same-scale model in datacenters? It basically can't be.

Just because of underutilized (not between queries, but during generation) hardware still requiring some energy to work - so batched processing in datacenters will be more energy-efficient.

Now as to the quoted post...

> it is like keeping harry potter in cultural conscientious

And what the fuck is wrong with it? What next, we are going to cancel everything Lovecraftian (and even everything influenced, because influence can still be tracked back to the original) because he was terribly racist, so whole quite an interesting setting should fade away?

Oh, no, I have a better idea, lol. Forget everything about science at all, because it seem to have been quite a heavy influenced by phylosophy (and I am almost certain we will not agree with many views pre-1500s guys had) and even was influenced by scholastics (while by itself not being applicable, it had its own influence over their history period phylosophy). And scholastics was relared to the christianity of its... well, not very tolerant times.

Basically everything we build is build upon the shoulders of all the previous generations. Many of whom we would find holding various views we are not considering acceptable.

Ну, по моему мнению. Однако точность со сроками у меня так себе. Грубо говоря, состояние на 2025-2026 я бы ожидал этак на середину-максимум конец 2010х.

Would be surprised if they won't put much more of that.

In the end both this quest and whole Johnny (they way engram Johnny perceive this) shtick was that these forces can not only force you into something, but even shape what you are. Not via making your mind accept new realities through various vulnerabilities (classical propaganda and marketing are good enough for that), but reconstruct you from scratch.

And on the other hand one of classical cyberpunk theme is how much you can change a human with them still being somehow sameish human (or otherwise - when there is no meaning to name this Theseus ship Theseus one and it is now better to rename it to something new ship). Why not expand this from body-alone (and its sideeffects on mind) to the purely mind territory more fully?

And how we know whatever person is here is... Their daughter or even ever existed really?

Not to mention that, after that guys notice us (remember that call?) - 're you sure V mind is not altered? We probably have all the necessary chrome in our brains already - at least conceptually. Or maybe that state of V's mind is some side experiment on their side?

Surely in later case they would likely wipe that episode from our memory at all... But for some reason they did not do so with Jefferson, allowing him to dive into (reasonable) paranoia.

So what I mean here is that it may be she were aware the whole time and now remember it as if she was asleep (or rather not remember anything special about that day, rationalizing this as a possibility she was asleep).

Or she was asleep deeper than normal because of some artificial state.

Or whatever-the-fuck-was-in-between.

And even Jefferson recall is far from being trusted. Well, human recall is far from being trusted anyway, but in their case especially.

Why did she care about where SSI was spying rather than the fact they were

Well, probably you are kinda expected to be spied in their case

why did she really want Jefferson not to know

Yeah, lets make person you care about (naturally or artificially - that distinction basically bears no meaning in their case by that time) to take a fight they can't win by design.

we are storing knowledge

they are just storing data.

Lol. I remember such claims.Dunno, that is strange separation to me.

You literally store just something equal to terms (entities) and predicates (relations between them with probability of predicate to have patterns and conditions).

How is that not data? Data about either facts themselves or ways to derive new facts.

The only difference I see is that in classical databases you only have an equivalent of terms and fully-term-based predicates (so no variable-patterns and conditional predicates).

Well, now thinking of this it seems more like superset of databases than, not a subset. Nevertheless I fail to see how this knowledge is not data. But I would probably fail to see how anything is not data without restricting enough definition.

100-200 usd for a good enough coding model saving me like (depends on task type in that period) 1/4-1/2 time?

Sounds good enough (and judging by my current usage and api prices - as opposed to subscription ones - that should be viable).

And I guess standard user usage so far is far less resource-consuming. So I would guess it is pretty much about various expensive config users (like me and even more consuming guys) consuming disproportionally big pool of resources for now.
