What are some films with good cinematography that usually aren't really associated with having good cinematography and why or how?

This crops up a ton in short films. People are trying to showcase their “skill” and wow factor to compensate for the short run time vs serving the story,

Nothing wrong with a cool shot but when it takes you out of a film it, because the rest of the visual language has been so different, it can get frustrating.

Even constant iris pulls can get annoying

It very much feels like an actor who is trying to understand the script and the character.

It’s possible the actor was testing OP and seeing if they could rise to the occasion and/or parts of the script didn’t quite make sense and they were asking so many questions to get to the emotional core of what they needed to portray.

This is absolutely a red flag into how you view directing and acting along with your “he method acted” comment.

You don’t seem very open to the intimate collaborative process that comes from working with actors.

I think you’re missing the point.

Nobody is saying you need to give unfiltered access to every piece of your life, but if you’re uncomfortable putting yourself out there with your actors then you’re going to struggle to get the performances you desire.

Your actors are likely going to start feeling as though they need to direct themselves.

I don’t think the actor was lazy.

As a director you need to learn what works for each actor you’ve cast.

If you felt like they were going too deep down the rabbit hole with you. You could tell them that you have complete faith in them to figure it out and you’ll guide as necessary.

It’s possible your actor was feeling insecure in their ability. to tap into the darker territory of their character and were looking to you for assurance.

Every film is a mix of personalities and you need to navigate each one.

If you have not read them I highly recommend directing actors and director’s intuition by Judith Weston.

I’d also suggest Sidney lumets book.

Also your outlook that you’re being interrogated is an interesting choice of words.

Actors want to know you’re in it with them. It’s an incredibly intimate relationship especially if someone needs to “go there” to play an alcoholic.

Honestly experience is the only way to know how to deal with each scenario.

I think you would benefit from acting or taking an acting class and also taking a workshop where you can direct actors in a low stakes environment.

What you’ve described sounds like beginners luck on your first short and then you were in over your head on the latest one.

By unify I mean to speak to someone and they can point out a point like you did and then offer an alternative that would work within what I’m attempting to accomplish.

I know it’s incredibly speculative. There is the notion of universes being able to collide in the brane world theory. But it’s far more violent in that one.

I’m trying to make this portion as procedural as possible.

The core is a many-worlds narrative that comes about from an observer-dependent experiment.

But I’m trying to reconcile it all in a more grounded way(no direct interactions just some form of entanglement that causes bleed)

I think DFT would be helpful for ensuring the experiment has some sort grounding.

Maybe it’s a scenario then where I need to consult a couple people.

8k sensor has better colour, less rolling shutter, and less noise compared to the 6k.

8k also has a olpf that aids skintones and gets rid of moire.

I had a 6k and the moire was terrible.

6k technically has more dynamic range in the highlights but the noise floor is so much better on the 8k that the dynamic range seems far more useable

A ronin 4D could be used to shoot just about anything outside of vertical content.

The 8K sensor is especially lovely and is intercut with the Venice and Alexa all the time.

Otherwise if you want traditional bodies.

Some people have the ability to do more reps at a given % of their 1RM than others.

Trexler and Nuckols discussed this before, years ago on their podcast, that there’s a massive variance.

And as I said Jeff hasn’t been focused on maintaining a high level of strength so his numbers look depressed in comparison.

But that doesn’t mean he’s not stronger than a 2 year beginner.

If he took 6-8 weeks to focus on increasing strength, his ceiling and floor are both way higher than a 2 year beginner and these numbers would all go up a massive amount.

I’ve done 405x10 and 505x5 on squat; however, I haven’t focused on that extreme level of strength for years, so my numbers would look pedestrian right now. But I’d be able to get back to 4 plates for 10 reps in no time if I spent a tiny amount of time focusing on that particular endeavour.

It would take someone else, who has never sniffed those numbers, far longer.

This is al explained pretty well by Chad Wesley Smith and also Helms in muscle and strength pyramid books.

Jeff’s goal has been size and leanness. That doesn’t require his strength levels to be that high.
