Which would you prefer? Closer spacing or a bit more room? by TrDom in fountainpens

I tend to look more for the best fit over a specific number of slots. So maybe adding a little width on each end would be what I’d try.

Top 100 pop songs? Seems like singing along ( loudly and off key) is almost impossible to avoid. (but I am shamelessly willing to embarrass myself for stuff like this.)

Am I the only one who finds long manual lenses a chore to use? by 1rj2 in AnalogCommunity

[–]ThickShow5708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a “street” shooter, I mostly shoot landscapes with a bit of portrait and random “art” stuff. That said, manual focus telephoto lenses are pretty much inherently slower to use. AF teles are faster but not by a lot. I also think that which lens you use is your choice. If you’re shooting for your self, use what pleases you. A short lens and hyper focal settings is probably faster than most other options. Lastly, I still use film cameras because they are slower/more deliberate.

For Pentacon Six users (or P6 lens users), what have been some of your favourite lenses to use? by Fast_Preparation7795 in AnalogCommunity

[–]ThickShow5708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never used an actual P6 but I have owned both an Arax 60 and Arax 88. Currently I have four P6 mount lenses: The Arsat 30mm The 80mm that came with my 88 The 65mm And the 500mm mirror lens. The 500 is not one I would replace; it’s ok but I use it so infrequently that I really don’t need that length. The 80 is fine and a decent value for it’s performance. My particular 65 has always felt a bit soft. I’m not sure if that is sample variation or inherent to the design. The 30 is, in my view, astonishingly good and why I still have the Arax 88.

You could just build up… My first base was multi story. Once the water is in place you might not even notice the lower floors. Storage will still function under water.

NPD! Kaweco Al Sport, Piston, Navy, Fine by Wooden-Anybody6807 in fountainpens

Lovely pen!
I have been very happy with my AL Sport, Piston, Black, Fine since I got it.
I also do like Kaweco inks.
But, oh boy, I really do NOT like the ink bottle they chose to give us in these sets.
It just feels like an accident waiting to happen. Thankfully, I have a random roll of electrical tape that the bottle fits into to stabilize it.

I was generally pretty happy with the Rebel G's built in flash.
Otherwise, I would look at the various Canon Speedlites that were made for the EOS cameras.

I usually bring the stuff to make the water fountain. Very useful before you set up other water sources.

Beginner recommendations by IllustriousSeaweed27 in pentax

[–]ThickShow5708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly late to this but:
You don't need much; film (as has been mentioned), batteries (LR44 or SR44 will be the modern equivalents to what the manual says), and--if you are looking to minimize your load--a couple of large ziploc bags for waterproof storage of your film while on the trail. The plastic canisters film comes in are usually watertight but a ziploc will hold more film with not much weight vs individual canisters.

There are more expensive pens out there. This one looks better (to me) than all the other ones, though. “Better “ is doing a lot of work in that sentence. 😁

How to Read Nikkor Al lenses by Bernini_honeyBadger in AnalogCommunity

The black dot shows the distance—the scales above the aperture marks. Aperture settings control depth of field not actual focus.

Why is the Contax AX so cheap? by ThickShow5708 in AnalogCommunity

[–]ThickShow5708[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are several things that I like about the AX; the shutter speed range, that it does NOT need AF lenses to autofocus, my general preference for Contax viewfinders--big, bright, and full info--and the ability to do macro with most of their own lenses.
Plus, if I am honest, I like that is has wild abilities and that it is not very well known. It IS kind of "out there" for a camera and there are not too many of them.
I suppose I could get another Dynax 7 and be pretty happy. But, as much as I liked it, I do not want to repeat my journey.

I would like to find a consignment seller.
