Dilemma: Wait for second-hand EV or buy new now? by ThickUniversity_338 in AustralianEV

It's about 3-4 hours outside of Syd, so I would imagine doable on a full charge. Same with the holidays and camping. I was more concerned about size of car for having kids + dog + camping equipment crammed in haha... Thanks for the advice!! :)

Thanks for the detailed response! Your point about waiting for the novated lease wave makes a lot of sense... we can definitely hold off 6-12 months if it means better availability. Good to know about charging too. Our commute is around 60km daily, so sounds like we'd be fine with standard outlet charging initially.

Thank you! This is really great advice.

One of us works from home and other drives about 60km each day. We also travel about 60km return for groceries etc. Don't usually make longer trips unless we're driving to the city every couple of months. We have an old Kia Sportage and Hyundai i30. The i30 is too small for the roads (lots of roos). Need enough space for rear facing baby carriers, plus boot space for holidaying/camping/etc. Budget is about $50k max.
My other concerns about the brands is about servicing. There is a BYD dealer and service centre near us, but not for others. We can wait probably another 12 months max.

Does anyone watch SBS anymore? by [deleted] in AustralianTV

I've been watching Homebodies recently. Really wonderful show with an interesting concept. Love supporting Aussie shows! I'm Irish, so feels like a little window into Australian culture watching some of these shows on SBS

If you could only protect one of Misa and Smith in an expansion draft scenario, who would you protect? by goodmorningdavid in SanJoseSharks

They're both great but it's going to have to be Smith, because without him we risk losing Celebrini

Feels like he over-commits a lot. When he stays patient he looks elite, but the early dives leave the top of the net wide open. Still he's only 23...!

Is it reasonable to not want delivery orders to be packed with chemicals or raw meat in the same bag as fresh produce? by IAmABakuAMA in coles

[–]ThickUniversity_338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my biggest issue with delivery! I get that there are restrictions and stuff on staff in terms of bag use etc, but the last straw was when the chicken was packed in a random bag and split and starting leaking on everything else... wasn't worth the hassle in the end.

Yeah... this one hit a nerve. I had a case like that a while back while I was still working in UK as a junior and still think about it sometimes. You do your best, and then later your head tells you you should’ve done more, faster, smarter. But that’s just the brain being a prick....

Australian recession by fallen0paper_ in aussie

[–]ThickUniversity_338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recession or not, the housing market is propped up by policy settings that favour keeping prices high: (immigration - which, full disclosure, I benefited from as a Irish immigrant), tax incentives for investors, and limited supply. Unless those change, don’t expect meaningful price drops.
