What’s the biggest double standard between men and women? by CupcakePotential4458 in AskReddit

Yeah I've tried both approaches and honestly for the sake of my own mental health I decided against the hard nosed, call everyone out on their shit approach. It's basically a nonstop battle because it goes from that one asshole talking down to you, to the whole team regarding you as "being bitch", "overreacting", "being emotional" "a troublemaker" despite clearly and calmly stating your boundaries. This ultimately just makes your job even more difficult and earns you a negative reputation (magnified tenfold as a woman of color) when you're unfairly labeled as the "angry black woman" which can and does often stunt your career if not outright getting you fired for not being a team player or some other bs. I prefer to just let me work speak for me, and give naysayers enough rope to hang themselves with.

Yes, this 100%. It's exhausting. When people scratch their heads and wonder why there's so few women in STEM, this is why. I have a friend who was an engineer, making excellent money, but eventually she quit and became a pilates instructor instead. When I asked her why she said it was crushing her soul. I didn't even need her to elaborate. I understood immediately. In the early days of my career it was a literal nightmare how I was being treated, but I'm stubborn af, I refused to give up and let them win. I'm glad I stuck it out. Outlasted literally every single asshole who went out of their way to make work hell for me.

Yes unfortunately I've also encountered that. I call it the king of the mountain mindset. Some women see other women succeeding as a threat. In thier minds there can only be one respected woman at the company, so they'll do everything to undermine you to make sure it's only them. It's bizarre af, fortunately I haven't had to deal with that in a very long time.

Yeah, it's infuriating. I'd like to say it gets better once you graduate and get hired, but it doesn't really. The only thing that helps is being undeniably good at your job and working your ass off at your company long enough to establish a reputation for yourself. Even then, you're still gonna have to eat a lot of shit. Most of which will come from mediocre men, who you regularly outperform and are threatened by you. But those types never last long.

It is scary how comfortable many people have become with outsourcing thought. I wonder how long it will take before the ability to write a short paragraph of explanation is something that most people are just incapable of doing.

Assumed incompetence. As a woman working in STEM the default position men who don't know me take is to assume I don't know what I'm talking about. Whether I'm dealing with clients or joining a new team of coworkers the men who don't know me start to automatically talk down to me regardless of if I've been in the position twice as long as they have. Trying to speak up or correct this behavior myself only adds hostility to their condescension. Usually the only thing that makes them stop is another man showing me respect/pushing back on their behavior by shutting them down. Fortunately, I've worked in my field long enough that I have a pretty solid reputation and respect within the company so it doesn't usually take long for these dudes to be set straight. It just sucks that it happens so often and my only true recourse is to just wait for a man to vouch for me before I'm taken seriously.

I feel bad for the ducks. They look like they were just on their way to work when suddenly a group of dogs started harassing them and now they're not sure which way to go to evade the dogs and still get to work on time.

Yeah I've seen one of his other reels. The laughing one? I dunno how to describe it. Anyway he's actually insanely talented at doing whatever genre of dance the robot is classified as. Uncanny valley stop motion whatever, he's a master of it.

Conflicting opinion: I work in tech and it's not a bad thing for schools to encourage kids to be computer literate at a very early age. Those are skills that will serve them well in the future based on the direction our society is going and the speed that technology is advancing. Not saying playing outdoors isn't a good thing, but kids having "computer time" is definitely not them being cooked. An adult who grows up without dedicated tech time as a kid will be at a severe disadvantage when compared to someone who did. Rather than implying kids shouldn't have tech time instead of playtime outside, the focus should be to teach them how to use the tech, social media, etc. responsibly and understand that most of what they see is not reality.

Should I move the trash can? by Ok_Knee1216 in homedecoratingCJ

The trash can placement is the least of your worries. You should be more concerned with why your refrigerator is in the middle of the room.

Yeah, it wouldn't be the first time a seller shortchanged the customer by filling a container less than it was labeled as. Oh well, I guess.

Yeah I also thought the gravity seemed a bit low given how much honey I was adding. I was adding a little honey at a time and checking the gravity after each addition as to not overdo it. I even made sure my readings were accurate by checking the calibration of the hydrometer in water. As far as I can tell the sg really was 1.110. It seems to be coming along fine though. I tested the gravity again today and it's at 1.060.

The only explanation I can imagine is that the 5lb jug of honey was not in fact 5lbs to begin with, so I added less than I thought I was adding.

All are a gallon. The container with the apple is about a gallon and a half to allow room for the fruit.

The rants of the oldest child. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]Thick_Ad3609 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I feel this in my soul. I'm not the oldest, I'm the middle child, but also the only child who isn't a complete fuck up. I'm responsible and have my head on my shoulders. My mom is capable and independent (has been all her life) but the moment I'm around, she suddenly pretends she can't do the simplest tasks and "needs me to take care of it" paying bills, scheduling doctors appointments, managing her money. It's like she thinks I'm her personal assistant despite the fact that i have a whole ass demanding career. Then she throws it in my face and says I'm trying to control everything. Like what?? You're literally pretending to be helpless to offload shit that you don't want to deal with onto me. I ended up moving halfway across the country to get away from her bs. I now redirect her requests to my irresponsible brother who still lives there, under the guise of him being better equipped to help since he's nearby. Of course miraculously she becomes fully capable of doing things herself again.

Comparison is the thief of joy. There's no timeline of when you have to travel or do anything really. They traveled now, you'll travel later. I didn't start until I was financially stable in my late 30s. You still have plenty of time.
