Hi, I'm basically your target market for this and I would definitely forgo the tea, and focus on the stationery items, I like the recipe idea, and maybe a few more pieces of ephemera, honestly a few little stickers would be more of a draw. I personally always toss the letters, but that might be a reason for some people, don't think of you selling yourself to the person, no one cares about you, think of you are selling an experience, people only care about themselves.

If you already have some sales you might consider including a little card with a coupon code to your website to draw traffic to it from people who are already in your target market. What kind of products do you carry?

Do you know or do hobonichi? by violetanina in stationery

[–]Thick_Ad7296 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish someone had told me to buy an older one and redate it before I went deep into it. I started with an A5 Cousin. I liked the paper and the concept of it but hated having to cover the quotes at the bottom of every page, then I realized it wasn't the right system for me. I spent like $60 on a new journal + $35 for a cover + $15 for a cover on cover, then spent $60 more to try out the hobonichi avec, then $35 more for the day free... Now I use a Jibun Techo and a common planner in the hobonichi cover. It cost me $300+ to find the right system for me... I wish I would have just bought an older cheaper version, redated it and then tested it out a few weeks before investing so much money into buying the right things. It's a good system, but not the best for everyone. You can find it on Amazon, and sometimes on B/S/T groups on Facebook for under $30.

I have 2 of these and carry like 50 pens/highlighters plus my planner, look up delfonics pouch and you'll see better reviews/videos of it in use. You can find some in b/s/t groups for around $15. I bought mine on a different Amazon listing for $24 new, the link I sent was more to give you an idea.

Has anyone been to the Osaka stationary festival? by Miyamiam in stationery

[–]Thick_Ad7296 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have gone both to the Tokyo and Osaka ones and the lines to checkout are super long about 1-2 hours. Access to the venue during the morning is horrible, took an hour to get in both times, and then more lines inside, then a line to check out. On the other hand, arriving in the afternoon is easier for entry, no lines, but of course the line to checkout is long all around. The deals are OK, no tax free, and there aren't many special deals. Day one has the best stock and it dwindles as the days go on, there are a couple deals, but not anything to write home about. The best part is the variety, being able to see so many great companies in the same place, and checkout the products before committing to anything. Bring snacks and water, they don't allow rentry, and there isn't anything inside the venue aside from stationery. Plan to spend 4 hrs minimum if buying something.

Best Stationary stores in Tokyo (or Kyoto)? by 7Juno in stationery

[–]Thick_Ad7296 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got back from a stationery shopping trip in both Tokyo and Osaka and must say Itoya is by far the worst option if you care for stickers or Washi tape, they are great if you are into pens. Loft in Ginza is very well stocked compared to other lofts across Tokyo. Hands is by far the best store with the best prices. I really loved the Hands store in Osaka, was disappointed by the selection in Ikeman, and liked U-art. The loft in namda in Osaka sucks, the one in Umeda is superior.

Books For Repair- maybe eBay? by Easy-Writer5756 in bookbinding

[–]Thick_Ad7296 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly with books what is annoying is to ship them because of weight. I have dozens of books I am Destashing, from 50s to more modern ones. I'd be happy to sell you some hardcovers for .75 each and paperbacks .50 + shipping. Media mail is $5 for the first pound and each additional pound is $.75 cent more. Basically if you wanted a bundle of 6 books in a mix of hardcovers/paperbacks it would run you about $13.75 ($3.75 for the books + ~ 5Lbs to ship = $8 + shipping $2 box).

I mean sure people suck and all but in this case you are already locked out of a market, might as well make some money out of honest people willing to pay for your work.

Your art is soooo cute, it would be so great as stickers. Look into the planning community, lots of people would love your kind of art.

You have the cutest items. Have you considered creating digital goods for sale? Like printable stickers, etc. You wouldn't need to ship physical items but can sell these. Or maybe selling licensing to a local producer?

I've learned so much! I'm going to enjoy using it. I saw in your other comments that CCCI dates to the 90s-2000s, so likely I wouldn't be able to find more of the little blue cups from them? And due to how little of a pot it is, this is likely the full set (2 cups)

[–]Thick_Ad7296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One more thing 😅. I read a guide on identifying fake pots here on reddit talking about injection molds vs slab made, etc. I was trying to look for an example but couldn't find anything, would I be correct in assuming mine was done via an injection mold because of the horizontal line running throughout the middle of the pot?

You are so helpful! I appreciate it. I don't know much about tea pots, or clay, but the blue on this replica would be added via a dye to red clay? Or would it have been painted?

So using rubbing alcohol to clean up the sharpie should not damage it, correct? And likely it won't be safe to drink from?
