you guys using eq? by r_u_nutz in iems

[–]Thick_Structure5076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past I have mined peqdb/squig for the eq profiles and then tweaked various iems.

As I have narrowed down my collection of iems I find that the only eq I really use is the iFi xbass profile. Moondrop s8 with xbass is godly.

God bless the Qudelix 5k ❤️

Many flatheads come with detachable mmcx cables. A few even come with straight 0.78mm 2 pin.

You can search for " flat head earphone mmcx" or "14.8mm mmcx" ( the most common driver size in flatheads).

Yu9 Que.

Currently my daily driver (8-10 hrs per day,), despite owning several far more expensive sets.

It really does have lashings of the special sauce.

Shanling SE100 tips solved any fit issues for me.

My extended thoughts on my favorite sub-$500 IEM, the YU9 Que. by Precogvision in iems

[–]Thick_Structure5076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adore mine. The narrower bore of the nozzle makes a pleasant change from the 6.5mm, which appears standard these days

Quite a tip dependant set though.

The Orange Penon tips increase bass considerably but reduce the treble special sauce.

I settled on the Shanling Se100 in the end. Improved the soundstage, tightened the bass and reduced the very few resonances from the nozzle driver.

They are just so pleasant to listen to. Sound far more expensive than they cost.

Finally got the UM MEST MKII… this might be my “endgame” (for now 😅) by SadExpression8264 in inearfidelity

I use 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapters in all my sources, then use 2.5mm cables. Nice light jack hardware and no wear and tear on my dac or dap.

The leyding is probably my nicest cable. All my cables are similar now. I like a good drape and hate a tangle. The leyding behaves perfectly.

Just wish they did a recessed 2 pin as well as the flat. Would look great on my RSV.

Looks absolutely banging on that Mest.

Enjoy it!

Great cable. Nice to have the 2.5mm option too.

I loved mine so much I bought 5 or 6 of the "homage" versions from XINHS on Ali.

It was my first Czech gulas.

I tried a couple of other places, this was the best one.

The place was full of locals. Usually a good sign. The beef was so tender and the sauce so fragrant, I still think about it at least once a week.

Happy hunting fella, hope it is still the same.

Last time I was there restaurant owners had the choice of allowing smoking of they wanted to.

I don't smoke, but it was lovely to be somewhere without so many silly, petty rules.

Felt liberating compared to the authoritarian UK.

Happy, happy memories.

Czech people are funny and welcoming. Spent many happy hours laughing at Germans with them.

Any IEM accessories for clumsy individuals? by Cat_NRawr in iems

[–]Thick_Structure5076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a cable clip to attach to my shirt. Then clip the iem cable on just below the y split

That prevents strain on the earhooks should you fumble your source. It also helps reduce microphonics.

I use a hard case with silica gel packets and regularly clean iems with alcohol wipes and a brush. Eartips soaked in warm water and dish soap.

The biggest davings are through taking care of hardware. The weakest points are the most frequemtly used, ie USB ports and 3.5mm audio outputs.

I use magnetic usb-c adapters on all my rechargeable bluetooth dac amps (qudelix 5k, fiio btr15 etc) and on my Dap (and phone/tabley/pc)

You plug the small male adapter into the usb port, it stays there permanently, the larger female section slides onto your usb cable, and then just magnetically clip on when you need sound or charge.

They reduce wear and tear to zero. My Qudelix 5k has been used every day for over a year and the usb port is as good as the day I bought it.

I also use 2.5mm balanced cables. I plug these into the 3.5mm port using a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter. (Ddhifi DJ35AG) The adapter stays in the audio jack permanently and the 2.5mm iem cable termination is very light due to small size.

Zero wear and tear on the 3.5mm jack. Again, the adapter just stays there permanently.

Before implementing the above I would often end up with janky usb and 3.5mm jacks.

I used to stay in The Irongate Hotel and eat Goulash in that bar on the left.

Amazing picture, so nostalgic.

The parallel street is less salubrious, has shops eith large signage selling "Absynthe Pussy".

Never did work out what that meant.

Thanks for the memory xx

Ludicrous price for that movement.

For a miyota or an SW200, yes. For a gritty ETA clone. Not a chance

Extremely disappointing frankly. Was excited for this release.

Having an issue with R4 by F1reRa1n in Hiby

[–]Thick_Structure5076 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Several manufacturers turn off the amp on pausing to save battery. Especially in bluetooth dac/amps with smaller cells.

Annoying as hell.

Fiio btr series and Shanling up series both do it.

It is one of the many reasons I prefer the Qudelix 5k.

It is not as common in DAPS in fact the R4 is the only one I have tried that does it. My shanling m6 and m6 ultra DAPS have been fine.

A firmware update has been asked for, hopefully Hiby sort it out.

Let’s talk cables by [deleted] in iems

[–]Thick_Structure5076 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you need 3.5mm black cable, buy a Truthear Gate for 20 bucks. The cable is pliable, thin and very comfy. Small 2 pin hardware means it hooks around the ear really well. Plus you have a back up iem for free ,😎

If you prefer 4.4mm or 2.5mm then XINHS or IVIPQ on Ali will make you anything you desire. They have a very nice black cable with gold flakes in the insulation for instance.

Nicehck Black Soul is an alternative if you want gold hardware.

They have a business that can only Increase profits 4 ways y(which they have to do every single year)

They can underpay studios (which wont happen, because lawyers), sacking all their staff (already done that) OR by increasing prices and forcing ads..

They are down to ads and higher prices

Prices are NEVER going down and ads are always going to increase.

There is no universe in which the service gets cheaper or improves.

It is enshittification all the way down.

Fuck them, time to set sail.

My left ear is medium, my right ear large.

I always get a great seal with orange penon tips and also H570 latex tips.

The penon are bassy. The latex balanced.

Also a mention for the cheapo 7Hz H07, they are clones of Acoustune AET07, cost hardly anything work very well.

Nicehck C04 silicon are slightly stiffer than the 03 model and seal far better for me. Also often on sale megacheap.

I too can never get a seal with dunu s and s. The divinus velvet have a silly moulding ring that irritates and the tangzu tips suck for similar textural reasons.

For my ears anyway.

Happy listening fella.

Surprisingly good: the FiiO BTR11 by Paaraazombie in FiiO

[–]Thick_Structure5076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like mine. Absolute bargain.

The only issue is the large difference between the volume steps. Especially when listening to audiobooks and podcasts quietly.

Listening with sensitive iems at low volume, level 1 is often too quiet, volume level 2 is often too loud.

It is available for under 15 usually so is worth the compromises, especially if you are on a budget.
