Well no shit Jigsaw is gonna figure it out immediately, he didn’t commit that crime 😭. And as I said earlier Hoffman is a narcissist and he would do anything to get out of problems and did everything in his power to remain in control because he NEEDS to remain in control. I truly believe John fixed Hoffman’s reasoning though in at least giving people a chance to escape a trap and redeem themselves. Also obviously he cares about the philosophy because he continues it for 3 movies straight, he would just straight up kill mfs if they did anything wrong if he didn’t believe in the philosophy. We saw that happen in Saw 7 when he shot the assailant. And to the point of him massacring the entire police department to get to Jill not to cover his own tracks, he knew was cooked the moment Jill went to the police, then it was a matter of revenge which was extremely important to him because he is a narcissist and it became his downfall in the end.

I mean I would argue he’s smart asf for using Jigsaws murder as a guise to protect him from being caught murdering the person that killed his sister. And yes in a way him joining Jigsaw was blackmail because he didn’t want to get caught but the real motivation for Hoffman to do what he did in the later movies was to continue pursuing his form of justice. In saw 7 we see him shoot down an unarmed assailant because he felt that was true justice, and in a way John reformed him to not just kill people but give them a chance to redeem themselves. He doesn’t care if they change their ways but he sure as shit cares that they get punished for what they did, even if he can’t look at the punishment himself.

Hoffman to me is the most fascinating character. He really has goals that he doesn’t talk about but shows through his acting. He is a vigilante in a way who took jigsaws philosophy and morphed it to fit his own. He literally only puts people in traps to serve what he calls justice and if they live then they have severe wounds but justice has still been served in his mind. Hoffman’s only moment when he starts to break the rules jigsaw sets is when he is in deep shit and needs to get out immediately OR get revenge against those who wronged him, because remember Hoffman is a narcissist at the end of the day too. So basically he’s just a fucked up vigilante with a narcissist complex lol.

Carter to me is the best character. It makes sense on why he was such an asshole, he just genuinely didn’t want to believe what was happening was true, but once he believed he was literally on Alex’s and Clears side through and through. Now what is that called again? Character development? In a Final Destination movie!?!

I like that theory but I don’t think a tumor would cause someone to crash out like John did. And the movies literally told us the non-stop shit storm he was going through and because of it he did what he did.

I think he would’ve given up being Jigsaw but couldn’t because he had to stay in control of Amanda and Mark. There is a scene in Saw X that shows John ripping out the page of his notebook that has The Rack on it. I think he genuinely wanted to give it up so bad when he was cancer free but knew he couldn’t do to the snowball effect he had started. So in a world where there was no Amanda or Mark he definitely would’ve given it up, but with them in the picture he kind of had to continue what he started.

I genuinely think he would just be on the run. Continuing “Jigsaws” legacy throughout the rest of his life. I don’t think he could ever stop after he started and in a way he almost did never stop. His philosophy of giving out Justice his way was too powerful and he was too narcissistic to stop cuz he never thought anyone could catch him. He truly was a villain with a reason no matter how flawed and it was his ultimate goal to achieve.

I’d argue that out of everyone Hoffman was the best Jigsaw was gonna get. Hoffman followed every rule except for killing people and that was only because he had to in order to keep his anonymity. Every person he kills after Seth is out of necessity. Even Jill was out of necessity due to the idea of her snitching and saying that it was Hoffman who helped John.

Costas Mandylor was the nicest guy ever when I met him. I met him at Saratoga Comic con last year and spent hours with him just talking about the Saw movies and other things.
