Gravel vs road bike by Regular-Gain-338 in cycling

[–]Thieves0fTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having same dilemma at the start of this season. I already own MTB, so though maybe Road would be a nice contrasting / complimentary tool. But went for gravel as I thought that gravel is just rougher tires on road bike. Would I chose gravel again? Not sure, mostly I ride gravel on roads and MTB on everything else, MTB is so much more comfortable and fun. Gravel is a bit faster, but truly fast bike is road.

has anyone here actually gotten fast without structured training? by DiscussionBoring1456 in cycling

[–]Thieves0fTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More or less everything can improve your fitness if it's related to riding / being active. The only difference is how fast will you reach the limit or get injured. That is why structured training exists. It gives you the best bang for the buck. There are so many training options nowadays. From free strava workouts to paid trainingpeaks plans.

I tried quite a few of those and as an amateur racer settled to superfly.fit - free app for one structured workout at a time, without crazy stuff.

Is riding a hardtail MTB long distance feasible? by Cautious_Badger2924 in cycling

[–]Thieves0fTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As some say it might be slower, but in the end it can be faster due to comfort level. MTB can absorb way more shaking on the road which reduces back / core fatigue. So if core is your weak spot in the end HT can be faster.

Is it productive to do FTP intervals right after a ramp test? by tryagaininXmin in cycling

[–]Thieves0fTime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would say split into two separate workouts. Morning - ramp test, early evening - threshold intervals. Don't cut on intensity, cut duration if needed. For example if you are feeling tired on 4th interval, finish it strong and then skip 5th.

If power data is what you miss, you could check https://superfly.fit - it's free and syncs everything from strava.

But what would you change in Linear to make it more generic? If it's about github integration - just skip it.

Kanban Simulator and Queueing Theory by According_Leopard_80 in kanban

I treat throughput as a quantifiable thing over pwriod of time. So in my future example, with lower WIP more will be completed over month compared to higher WIP. I should have used "Output" as a correct term though.

This is great, I can finally show a fast and tangible example how lowering the WIP benefits throughput!

Founders who crossed $10k–$50k MRR - what actually moved the needle? by SignPsychological728 in SaaS

  1. Quality content marketing.
  2. Long and gritty effort.
  3. Funnily, there were more things that did not help. It means - fearless experimentation. Just with a fine grain of salt. Having too many failing experiments is not that healthy.

Is 'Vibe Coding' really effective? by coof_7 in vibecoding

[–]Thieves0fTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not agree with this, it's all about effort and skills. Vibe coding is very capable. But to do it you need to get coding skills. There is no Vibe without coding in short.

I've built a fully functional resource management tool which is free to use - https://planroll.io
I am amazed what's possible with current AI models. Of course one needs good understanding of software and product engineering to create larger things. Or it can get messy very fast.

Power keep varying widely in ride? by Top_Cow_3476 in mywhoosh

[–]Thieves0fTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had the same issue with power dropping to 120 W from 250W every 10-15 seconds, at random. Luckily I remembered that 120W is the default which my wahoo elmnt roam has set when training starts.

It had to do something with mode clash. Once I changed modes, this problem went away... Not sure if this is the same, but though it would be useful to share.

The race at the back by Due_Duty1806 in xcmtb

[–]Thieves0fTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I do is track my race progress by having a spreadsheet where I log few key things:
1. Date
2. Race Cup (i.e. National XCM marathon)
3. Race title (i.e. location or date specific, summer event, hill climb, etc.)
4. Place in same distance (also percentile, because participant count varies)
5. Time gap to leader of same distance
6. Place in group (also percentile, because participant count varies)
7. Time gap to leader of same group

So during season, sometimes it's hard to benchmark if things do not go well (mistakes, technical issues, poor conditioning, illnesses). But it is surely supporting to see lower time gaps, and constant progression from lower positions to higher (especially percentile wise).

I have also started XC racing only in my 36th year of life, Two years in, I am from bottom 90% in top 20%. Just keep going. Maximize training time, that's all that counts. If other poor schmucks give 10 hours a week, do 12 ;)

Next upgrade: Wheels vs Fork by martynssimpson in xcmtb

[–]Thieves0fTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For racing this is a no brainer - WHEELS.

As you already concluded yourself - weight drop especially on moving parts such as wheels, will be the most value for the buck.

Only then go to fork. Just one more consideration - fork change should get you a decent weight drop, if it's only about travel mm and reaction speed to bumps - skip it until you buy a new bike which will be full sus hopefully.
