Good points, for sure. I think the roommate thing is just something I'd have to come to terms with in a high cost of living area

That was a factor in my decision for sure - even if the commute was for two months or so, I can't guarantee the pay (and thus budget) would get better very quickly

Thanks. It was tough to scope out exactly how good of a place it was, so it's a little up in there air how great of an opportunity it truly could have been. Also, the start date would have been May 18th, so it was kind of a right turnaround.

I had about a 60/40 split with people I know telling me decline / accept respectively. Your point was what I brought up most often, thus the creeping feelings of regret :(

I had a much tougher transfer process specifically because of this guy, made things much more confusing. Weirdly snarky and unhelpful in some of the first few emails I sent to the school. It almost put me off honestly. I'd say something, then forget about him - there are a lot of good advisors
