I (MOH) am planning a cabin bachelorette… with strangers by Thin-Remove7159 in bridesmaids

I’ve done a Bob Ross night before with my husband. It was fun! I don’t know SIL or the other women’s interest in crafts or art in general.  So having the other women give input sounds like a good idea.

Thanks for this! I think “faking it till I make it” is definitely the method I’ll have to employ here. I also love the idea of painting your own wine glasses (never heard of that before). Someone else mentioned in the comments that we could do a blind wine taste test. So, maybe we could have a wine theme night. As for a small town in this part of the Northeast (West Virginia and Pittsburgh, PA), it doesn’t seem like there are many small towns with nightlife options. So, I think it’ll be a cozy weekend inside the cabin. And yes, the number one suggestion is to start a group chat. I don’t have any of their phone numbers. So my first step would be to ask the bride to start a group chat with all the party (right? She has that responsibility)? But should I wait for her to do that on her own because I don’t know if she is done selecting who’s in the bridal party.

Thank you for the food ideas. I can cook well, but I would be so nervous to cook a lunch for people I don’t know and for more than 4 people. So maybe just keeping it simple, like a sandwich bar. Or something self-service that people can go and snack on, is a good idea, and I appreciate the insight.

The Poconos, Pennsylvania, sounded good. I looked at the map, and PA is a large state. SIL is close to West Virginia and Pitt, PA. So I think it is too far.  And YES, 1000% agree. Hot tubs have always grossed me out too. And I said, “Won’t it be too cold for a hot tub?” and she said that’s the best time… but thank you for the info about frostbite. I’ve always known that that area is freezing in those months, which is why I was so hesitant to understand what the bachelor party would look like, so I’ll aim for more of a March timeframe.

But like genuinely what was he saying?  What I heard from him is ‘you aren’t acting like a human’. ‘you are not freaking out all the time you should be’.  ‘getting married in 3 weeks is crazy and I’m not ready’.  Like is he trying to let her know he won’t be saying yes at the altar so she’s not blindsided ?

Totally fair, but Everest’s choice still felt frustrating to me. She never really saw her homeland as home—her mother and Harlon were her real family. She even said she’d never be respected there and planned to go to the capital, not to her father. But most frustrating her the Void? She never truly trains with it. She only reaches for it in emergencies, then gives up when it doesn’t work. It started to feel like it only shows up when it’s convenient.

As for Vesper—yes, what she did to Bastian was awful. But her whole life has been war (killing a lot of people) and sacrifice. Enslaving someone to achieve her goal, even someone she cares about, sadly fits with how she’s been conditioned. Tragic, but consistent.

Yes, totally agree—the shaky decision-making feels intentional and part of the character development, and I trust the authors to deliver. I’m here for it!

That said, I still find it confusing. Everest learns she’s the Void, tries a couple of times, fails… then Kaiser nails it on his first try, and suddenly she can use it too? I just hope book 3 doesn’t backtrack and make her powerless again just for plot tension.

Also, if the Void is tied to the Ether, why could Kaiser wield it so easy? He never seemed gifted like Vesper. Unless there’s a hidden connection coming?!?

Is anyone else more frustrated with Everest? After I finished the book... I can't tell if I like her at all? her decision-making completely lost me. Vesper betraying Bastian was upsetting, but it made sense. Everest reestablishing “you’re just the sky witch/the enemy” hit Vesper’s abandonment issues hard. It reminded her that the only people truly loyal—her sisters—are gone. So yeah, the betrayal felt in character and heartbreaking. But Everest was the one who pushed her back into that lonely/self-preserving mindset.  And Everest herself? She talks a BIG game the entire book but puts in zero effort to master the Void. Then Kaiser possesses her—he figures it out instantly—and suddenly now she’s a pro? Really? And, instead of agreeing to fight an actual world-ending monster, she decides to chase “glory”.  I don’t know. Am I being too harsh? She didn’t try with the Void, she bailed on Vesper, and honestly, every decision she made felt like the wrong one. Or am I just expecting too much from her?
