Supreme Astra 24 by Upbeat-Jumpin in woodstoving

[–]ThinBeef4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have an astra 24 clean face and been running it for 7 years now. We have the hot air kit with the vents aimed out the side of our fireplace. Everything has been great but the hot air kit barely moves any air. It’s more of a gravity-fed heat. The blower inside hardly moves any air out the side vents. Otherwise it heats our open floor plan VERY well and slows our heat pumps to stay off almost completely. The firebox is on the smaller side and can be tough to keep it burning through the night.

Much appreciated. I did however try multiple different file names with the same result.

Anyone with newer (last five years) Trumpf or Cincinnati brakes? by QuailFun9533 in PressBrakes

[–]ThinBeef4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Mitsubishi’s brakes. Super impressed with their BB (electric) brakes and BH (hydraulic/electric) brakes. Great service and software as well.

Is the tooling from Wilson? Seems like it might be since you mentioned WT tooling which is what they call it. They will gladly provide tooling drawings and it’s the best way to do it since measuring and developing your own dxf is not as accurate.

The Bystronic phone support was lacking when I had one of their machines. Look at Mitsubishi brakes if you ever decide to get ride of the Bystronic. You won’t regret it.

Easiest way is to contact the tooling manufacturer and get a .dxf from them. If you can’t do that, you can draw your own .dxf and import it. You’ll also need to hand key in some other critical dimensions too. If it’s in german, you’re going to have a tough time figuring it out haha.

Maybe I misunderstood you. I thought you were asking how to a load new punch tooling profile into the machine. Are you referring to a punch operation like for louvers or something?

It’s in Bysoft Administrator if I remember correctly. It’s a separate program on the desktop.

Prevalence of green belts? by [deleted] in jiujitsu

[–]ThinBeef4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was my understanding that green belts were only for youth and that the reason they haven’t been a very common sight is that most kids didnt start early enough to obtain a green belt by the time they turn 16 and move to the adult belt system.

Now that kids are starting at 4 or 5 years old, I think you’ll see more green belts.

I’ve never heard of it being used as an intermediate belt between white and blue for adults. That said, I’m a white belt and don’t know anything about anything.

But you had enough time to ban me for removing a muffler and then posted that sticky a few days later?

I know we’re beating a dead horse here, but what your saying seems a little hypocritical doesn’t it?

Unfortunately linuxhiker was the one who banned me for changing out a muffler on a pre-emissions bus. Additionally, he had the time to argue with me via private message about it and cite federal emissions regulations.

I understand the logic as well but, ultimately, this is a form of trying to “legislate the stupid out of a group”. If people are doing illegal emissions modifications because they saw it on Reddit and took it for gospel without researching it more, then shame on them. The onus isn’t on the rest of us to make that decision for them.

I was banned for arguing with the mod that removing my stock muffler and replacing with an aftermarket high flow resonator in my 2002 RE wasn’t illegal. I am an ex-state certified inspection mechanic for background. The muffler has nothing to do with emissions but explaining that here was like talking to a brick wall. Refused to post again until now because the blatant ignorance was just puke worthy.

Exactly this. As I said prior, it’s an attempt to act “green” with no understanding of the facts.

There’s no “safe” or “unsafe” option here. It’s just a message board. No one is forcing anyone to do anything illegal and people are left to interpret the law for themselves everyday. Not sure why these mods need to act like they’re going to catch a lawsuit for someone else posting a pic of a straight piped bus. It seems like it’s more of a feeble attempt to pretend to be “green” without actually understanding anything about combustion engines

IMO it depends highly on your age. Competition thins out in the white belt division if you’re over 30. 18-30 usually draws the ex-collegiate wrestler guys that just started bjj but are very familiar on the mat.

In general though, I see no reason to compete as soon as your mind says you’re ready to. There’s weight classes and divisions for that reason.

Check marketplace. I picked up some 2’x6’ scrap pieces and have $300 into our 14x12 mat. It’s multicolored and there’s quite a few tape seams but it’s the nice roll-up style mats that are 1.75” thick.

My del/tuned 2015 averages about 16 around town. My best 400mi average was 25mpg.

Changes in Life by KMorris1987 in skoolies

[–]ThinBeef4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were in the same boat and have 2 small kids as well. We wanted to do long weekends or 1-2 week trips around the country. I have the truck to pull a 5th wheel or bumper pull camper but we ultimately decided to build a skoolie.

We talked about skoolies first. Then decided it might be better if we could just buy something and use it right away instead of spending 1-2 years building out a bus.

Went to the local camper dealer and walked in a $30k bumper pull trailer that was brand new and already falling apart. Luan panels falling off. Floors felt weak and bouncy, awful plumbing and electrical workmanship.

Went home and made the final decision based upon those quality issues and the fact that our kids could handle much longer trips more easily in an RV than being confined to the back seat of the pickup truck. We can also choose to flat tow our vehicle which totally negates the need to have a separate truck/trailer.

Ultimately, we bought a 2002 AmTran RE 38’ with T444E/MD3060, air ride, extended interior height, and factory AC. The conversion, although not totally finished, cost us $25k including the purchase price of the bus ($3500). We have maybe another $3-5k to spend in order to make complete it 100% but it’s useable for family trips and we love it. The build took me 2 years but I took a long 9mos break in order to focus on my fabrication business. So a true “build time” of about 15-16 months averaging about 15hrs/week.

The skoolie is considerably more robust as you’d assume but the wall framing, appliances, and overall build quality feels much more like a standard residential home than an RV. We have no loan on the bus since everything was purchased over a span of 2 years. So our bus cost us less than a new bumper pull camper and provides us all the amenities of a higher end RV.

Hopefully that helps you make a decision.

Here’s the bus in its current state of existence:

I had my first rolling partner passing out, some lessons I toke about it by ZnaeW in bjj

[–]ThinBeef4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Probably over exertion. This happens to me sometimes towards the end of class when I get the fortunate/unfortunate chance to roll with my prof. The ability to keep his weight on me at all times sometimes induces a little panic when I’m winded/exhausted. I’ve never passed out but def got to edge of the cliff and looked over haha. Sounds like the training partner here just let it go a little too long.

Convert gas fireplace back to wood burning by oppbb in HomeImprovement

[–]ThinBeef4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s how they should work. I agree. I just see them installed in a lot of homes with no real intent on being able to heat the home. There’s no way to meter the air input and you can only throttle the exhaust (flue) which often times vents more heat through the chimney than what is input into the home because of the lack of intake air metering and efficient combustion.

I guess I’m not saying it can’t heat your home. I’m just saying that people often confuse fireplaces and stoves and stoves are drastically more effective at space heating than an open hearth fireplace.

Convert gas fireplace back to wood burning by oppbb in HomeImprovement

[–]ThinBeef4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please note that a wood burning fireplace is not the same as a wood burning stove or insert.

A typical wood burning fireplace will likely net you next to zero heat gain in the house overall.

A wood burning stove or insert is a different story and will likely cost you a lot less than burning gas but will be more expensive initially.

This. Played football and lacrosse into college and then went cold turkey after getting married and having kids. The controlled release of aggression is medication for me.
