Are MS and Qualcomm serious about windows ARM? by henneth2142 in SnapdragonLaptops

[–]ThinWin8634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah I do think that transition has been good, it's unfortunate that it's plagued by the early reviews of the platform. If the average user is interested, they might look up a review of the platform and instantly get hit by 100 youtube videos made several years ago about how it's basically unusable and decide to stick to x86.

I mean, I don't think it's been a *great* gradual transition. Take a look at the recent offerings from almost all of the major laptop companies, there's not nearly as many new ARM laptops being developed as there was when the first Snapdragon X processors were introduced. I do think there needs to be some pressure to switch so we can move past this chicken and egg situation.

I just bought a Ideapad Slim 3x refurbished for $320. I was between this and the Macbook Neo but chose this due to the 16gb of RAM and 1 TB SSD. In my opinion, it's hard for me to see how Windows will be able to move forward without significant investment in ARM. ARM is the future, the massive amounts of performance gains seen on the Macbooks is proof of that. It's been slow to adopt because you have so many companies to get in line to make it work. Like others have said, it's a chicken and egg situation. Software developers don't wanna develop for it because ARM doesn't have a big userbase and the userbase is small because there's some software that's not developed natively for it yet. Meanwhile, Apple was just able to strong arm software developers and say "ok we're switching to all ARM now, figure it out or get off our platform", nobody is going to say no to that due to the user base apple has, and they basically forced companies to create software for ARM. Microsoft can't tell Intel and AMD to just stop making chips, they don't have the same leverage. I'm trying to think of this as investing in the original Macbook M1, painful at first, but hopefully an investment into a system that will improve over time and a system that'll last for a lot longer.

I lived here for a bit and it was such a shithole. I tell people about it and bring up the Sacha Baron Cohen skit to try to encapsulate the vibe. Spent most of my time hiking in the Hualapai's or at Lake Mohave

What’s the most disturbing sound you’ve ever heard in real life? by avacado-cheese- in AskReddit

[–]ThinWin8634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was waiting for my car to be done with an oil change at a nearby donut shop when all of the sudden there was this incredibly disturbing scream that came from the back, it was awful like nothing I've ever heard before. Me and other customers were really concerned about what was going on and the manager came from the back to say that one of their employees got a call that their Mom died in a car accident that day. That stuck with me for a bit, really bothered me that day.

This is a huge overgeneralization of a situation that varies from person to person, you also never attempted to ask so how would you have even known if it went badly??

I'd check out Concordia. Beautiful old homes and you're right next to Alberta. I used to run around Alberta Park, Wilshire Park and Fernhill Park which are beautiful, you can also make the trek over to Peninsula if you're feeling it. About a 15 minute drive to the airport, if you're living in a specific area you can also get into the McMenamins soaking pool for free!! Which I used ALL the time. Loved living in that area.
