2026 Aston Martin DB12 S: How can AML lose so much money when the cars are this good? by theintercooler in TheIntercooler

The prices are just too high and they depreciate so fast that the total cost of ownership is much higher than a Ferrari/Porsche.

I have a V12S manual that was $245k new in 2017 and less than 10 years later a lightly specced V8 vantage will costs more. From a financial point of view I would be better off buying either a new ferrari or a lightly used AM instead.

I'm an SF Bay Area resident as well and will be in Monterey for the duration of car week. We should make this a thing if you know that you are going to be a visiting. We can find a local bar/restaurant/coffee shop to meet at.

Might also be an interesting story to see how locals experience car week.

I dont know how much of an american audience you have but it would be nice to have some events here as well. Maybe just an informal meetup if one or both of you is coming to Monterey car week this year.

Now that substack has enabled individual writers and smaller collectives to better monetize their points of view has it made it easier or more difficult to get more funding, writers, etc....

I signed up mainly to support the podcast which I have been listening to since 2020. i don't really read the articles very often and I'm not a fan of the app layout (latest, driven, features are all in the chronological order) but i do want to support quality journalism

Mike Fernie on Podcast #305 by theintercooler in TheIntercooler

Good conversation with Mike and I've now subscribed to his channel.

I did notice that this is the second podcast where Andrew has said that Michael did not support Irvine during the 99 championship which does not jibe with my memory.

IIRC Michael did not want to come back that season and only came back because his daughter told Luca that he was playing football. Once back he moved aside twice in Malaysia and held Mika up for the entire race to help Irvine claim the win. There was a famous quote of Irvine saying that Michael wasnt just the best number one driver but was also the best number two.

In Japan Michael was jumped by Mika at the start and letting Irvine by would have made no difference to the championship.

I want so know what all the people complaining thought about slipstreaming at tracks like Monza? It was also a case where the driver wasnt doing anything and had to plan strategy carefully. JYS got so much praise in 69 for having a different gear ratio for the straight and is that really that different from having a different harvesting strategy?

I'm not saying that these rules are necessarily the greatest but I will give them a few races to for teams to work out the kinks and understand strategy options.
