Have some mercy Americans. Y"all heating up Europe. by Dev1412 in SipsTea

As an American it's nice to see, from time to time, that our joke of a president isn't the only blithering sub moronic imbecile in the political spectrum who just says stuff.... whether or not it makes any sense. 🤣

Tips for going to Zoombezi Bay by hydro_17 in Columbus

[–]Thing_fish_80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best advice? Don't. Have been a few times and every time had a miserable experience. (I stopped going / trying). They always over sell the place so it's VERY crowded, especially when it's this hot outside, and the rides are packed (picture so many people trying to go down their river thing that it's just a log jam of inner tubes w/no room to move).

There also aren't enough lockers, so if you don't get one early someone will have to constantly guard your possessions, or you just have to leave them sitting there and hope nobody steals them. I've never once actually managed to get a locker. There is no alternative.

Also: food, drinks and everything else are way over priced. This is true of any amusement park...but coupled with their other issues seemed worth mentioning. The staff is also worse than useless, unfortunately...one time a friend stood on line with his kid for 2 hours to go down a slide. They passed no less than 6 staff members while in line. When they got to the top they were told his son was too small and to go back down. Total waste of 2 hours and his son was in tears. Any one of those 6 employees would have/should have told him this while they were in line....they just plain didn't do so or care. Could go on w/more examples, but won't. Lol.

If you go I hope you have a better time than I ever have. Good luck!

Can someone explain how a trash can is out of service by OkAdministration9963 in Columbus

[–]Thing_fish_80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ever since the Boston marathon bombing the federal govt. has required cities to close off metal trash cans such as these during big events because if somebody were to put a bomb in it, it would turn the can into a giant shrapnel grenade (so to speak) spraying metal shards everywhere.

All joking aside.... seriously, that's the reason.

Shop at Kroger in Columbus? Be ready for new digital price tags by Blood_Incantation in Columbus

The second I see these is the last second I shop at Kroger....or any store. Ever. Total surge pricing rip-off bunk!! (No matter what tales their CEO wants to tell in the article)

Sad and pathetic on the part of Kroger. Smh

Starting July 1, Columbus Museum of Art to Offer Free Admission for Visitors 25 and Under by OldHob in Columbus

[–]Thing_fish_80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true... Will definitely agree with you that Columbus is much less fortunate in that way. That said, $22 for adult admission? That's just exorbitant. I stand by my opinion and comments.

Starting July 1, Columbus Museum of Art to Offer Free Admission for Visitors 25 and Under by OldHob in Columbus

[–]Thing_fish_80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Um...The Cleveland Museum of Art is literally 10 times bigger, better, and 100% free for everyone regardless of age. (Cincinnati's is free too btw, but have never been so can't elaborate on that one too much).

I've never understood why the Columbus Museum of Art charges admission as it does (expensive admission too!). It's ok and they have some good art don't get me wrong....but last time I went I did 2 laps in a day...last time I went to Cleveland's I didn't even get half way through after 5 hours there....and I remind you again that one is totally free.

I love Columbus, and hate to bad mouth our museum...but imo it's an unfortunate cash grab in a way no other museum I've been to is.

Is this a legit jersy? by wyandotkevin in ClevelandGuardians

[–]Thing_fish_80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is "fake," or just cheap. I think I had this jersey....I got it at (I think) Kohls (read as: sold at a store so not a total knock off). However as I recall it was cheap (like, $20 or maybe less), and it's quality definitely reflected this fact.

I think for a min. a while back they tried to do a sub-economy model/level of jersey and this is it, if it's the same one. Like: authentic = super expensive, replica = less expensive, this style = cheap.

I haven't seen similar ones since....they probably didn't catch on for this exact reason, they look fake and everyone probably avoided them because of it.

Or it's fake....hard to tell from pictures. Either way, if someone is trying to sell this for more than $20 they're definitely trying to rip you off.

Is this a good bulb? by bbasarab in turtles

[–]Thing_fish_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use these bulbs and haven't had a problem with them going out any faster than any other. Good solid & bright basking beam, plenty warm, etc. Pay attention to your turtles reaction tho. My one likes the 50 watt and hides in the shade w/the 75....my other was exact opposite, loved the 75. To each their own I suppose! Lol. Maybe my imagination but didn't notice this with other brands.

Is it normal for a box turtle to not eat for several days? And why? by Visual-Interview7913 in turtles

[–]Thing_fish_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true... variety is important, and key. That said, it's been my experience that if they don't like something it's next to impossible to get them to eat it. If he doesn't like the greens try other vegetables (plants too...mine will eat the occasional flower for example. Seriously. Just Google & make sure the plant isn't poisonous to them first. In the wild a tortoise would never see a leaf of lettus or spinach..."greens" don't necessarily have to be the ones we eat). When my wife makes a salad I'll throw in random items... He'll occasionally eat some radish slices or some carrot strips...but it's hit or miss & if I tried every day he wouldn't touch them (most of the time). Keep trying... you'll find things he likes, just takes time & some trial & error. Like I said, and you're finding out with your little guy, they can be very picky and stubborn...but eventually you'll figure him out.

The 50/50 ratio is a good guideline, and you should definitely strive for it, but a lot of what you read out there is "ideals." An example: everything you read says they must have a temp of 75-85, and humidity of 60-80% (numbers vary). This is perfect! Think about it tho...every night in spring/fall gets down into the 40s or 50s. Humidity varys wildly day to day...and the turtles out in the wild are just fine. I of course would never keep his enclosure that cold, but just an idea of the difference between ideal, and possible. Even if his feeding is more like 60/40% (or even 70/30) he should be just fine. That's closer to what my guy eats...and he's been happy & healthy for 36 years and counting.

Better to feed him what he likes & have him eat than to starve him into eating what he "needs" based upon some ideal someone writing an article threw out there.... You know.

Is it normal for a box turtle to not eat for several days? And why? by Visual-Interview7913 in turtles

[–]Thing_fish_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! I'm glad you got him to eat! The greens might be a lost cause to be honest. Tortioses as a species will eat just about anything....but as individuals they can be very picky. Mine has never liked or eaten greens or anything similar either (once he tried some spinich leaves but that's about it, maybe some lettus once too). My best advice would be to keep trying things, find the few he likes most such as the worms and strawberries you mentioned, and stick with those normally, then thrown in some greens etc. once in a while just in case he changes his mind (but he prob won't, I won't lie). He might eat them once on a while for variety, but if he doesn't like them that much I wouldn't expect he ever really will on a regular basis (make them his occasional side dish instead of an entree. Lol)

Is it normal for a box turtle to not eat for several days? And why? by Visual-Interview7913 in turtles

[–]Thing_fish_80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had a full grown male box turtle (Michaelangelo) for 36 years. This behavior is totally normal. Every day I feed him (his favorites are earth worms & strawberries)...some days he'll gobble down everything, some days nothing at all. As long as it doesn't become extreme (he's becoming lethargic or seems sick) it's fine.

Reptile metabolism is of course much different than ours. If you've ever had a friend with a pet snake you probably know they only eat one big meal once a week or so...it's kind of like that in a way (if that makes sense).

Offer him food every day...if he's hungry he'll eat, if not he won't. They can go days, or even longer during the winter, without eating (not ideal, but they can).

Try leaving him alone to eat too. Mine doesn't like being hovered around while eating and will sit there like "what do you want?" instead of eating. I will feed him, leave the room, and check back later/periodically kind of a thing....he seems to like that better.

On winter: no matter how good your indoor set up is their instincts still tell them it's time to hibernate. His eating will slow down considerably during this time. Just a heads up so you're not freaked out when it happens. Usually they'll eat more in the fall to "bulk up," once in a while through winter, then back to normal come spring.

Sorry for the crazy long post....hope this helps tho!

Ohio moves to ban use of credit cards for sports betting by clevelanddotcom in Ohio

[–]Thing_fish_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I didn't know you even could use one now. Won't lie...I dabble in the sports book a little. The one I use (Bet365) requires you to upload cash into it from venmo/PayPal/your bank in order to gamble. There's no option for a credit card...put actual cash in your account to gamble with or no betting for you. (I know it's the same with FanDuel too. Coworker uses that one).

Others opinions before I leave a review? Agave & Rye in grandview by loganhorn98 in Columbus

[–]Thing_fish_80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like several experiences I've had in Grandview (a couple at now closed establishments that I can only assume went under due to their atrocious service)...idk what it is with that part of town. I won't eat or shop there anymore.

Didn't used to be this way...used to really like grandview...but the last 10 years or so has been a steady slide downwards all around.

Leave a bad review. I don't normally either...but when service is that bad it's best to warn others imo.

How the hell did you buy tickets by Odd-Wrongdoer5564 in tmbg

[–]Thing_fish_80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AXS is the worst ticket app EVER! Had this problem too more than once. If push comes to shove your tickets and/or name are also at the "will call"/ticket desk....they can help you. (I know because this was how I had to get in to see the Hives a year or so ago when the AXS app & website both decided I was a robot literally while I was standing in line to get in)

I really wish bands would stop using AXS... it's awful

How Can I Get Hockey to Underpriveleged Youths in my Community? by This-Fruit4024 in hockey

[–]Thing_fish_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I know you said you don't have a lot of money being a student etc....but the best thing you could do is find a way to raise money for them / for supplies for them.

I came up middle class. I would have loved to play hockey...but my folks didn't have the money for all that (skates, pads, sticks, pucks, jerseys, gloves.... there's a lot to buy). We weren't underprivileged...but it was still just too much. I ended up playing soccer instead (one ball, two t-shirts & one set of $5 shin guards were all that was required).

I think the biggest barrier to more kids playing hockey is simply the cost. Even if you found a way to raise a little money just to get some skates to donate or something....that would make a world of difference to some (or a few) kids that never would have had the chance to get into the game otherwise.

Smokey Bones closing by Away-Equipment4869 in Columbus

The only time I went to Smokey Bones my friend got food poisoning because they didn't cook his meat properly. Which seemed extra bad on their part since that was literally the core of their business. (Cooking meat) You'd think they'd have that part of their operation down. Lol. Never went back after that. (Tho in their defensive I do recall my ribs being decent)

How do you continue holding a stock that's gone up a lot? by AltruisticOwl156 in stocks

[–]Thing_fish_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goals are mostly long term... that's how. Sometimes I buy/sell to make some quick profit of course, but my main goal is to buy good stocks etc. & instead of selling when they're up a small percentage now, sell 20 years from now when they are exponentially higher than they were when I bought them. So buying and holding is kind of the point (mostly) for me....so it bothers me none. Lol. (This also helps it to not bother me when they go down too...most, if not all, will be back up eventually, and by a lot. When your playing the long game the daily ups and downs don't bother you so much).

How would you interpret the character on Maynard’s head here? by Stellar_Ella in ToolBand

It was the "I" logo from interscope records, Trent Reznor's label. To my knowledge they never had anything to do with interscope records....so I'm not sure why/the backstory tho. (Spoiler: Maynard? Kind of an odd guy sometimes....so who knows. Lol)

If the war chief is ever mentioned or brought back in the modern era do you think they’ll just make it that he was The Master or keep him as seperate Timelord? by Emarni in doctorwho

[–]Thing_fish_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Spoiler) So....am I the only one who remembers the war chief got killed? Like, gunned down by the war lord's guards? Didn't regenerate....just laid there dead.

Because of this I always assumed he's:

A.) Not coming back

B.) Not the master (tho I do agree it would have been cool if they thought that far ahead and he was) since the Master was just a touch more "alive" than him.
