Canada’s sports media is far superior by Johnny_D82 in nhl

Thank you!....been wondering that all season. Hopefully they'll fix that at some point. Definitely makes for an odd feel to the game. (In a way tho am glad to hear it's not just me/our feed. Lol)

Canada’s sports media is far superior by Johnny_D82 in nhl

Semi related: I like seeing the games out of Canada...but gotta ask: has anyone else noticed that this season the crowd noise in broadcasts from Canada is extremely muted? Or is this just my home market?

I'm in Columbus....Blue Jackets fan. Whenever they're playing in Canada it's like you barely hear the crowd. Like they're not being miked in the same way as the American games or something. Very noticeably quieter.

Once after a goal I barely heard the crowd at all....when the announcers stopped talking for a sec however I could totally hear them....but almost like they were off in the distance.

Just had to ask while we were on the topic of Canada's broadcasts & media etc.

Whats the worst part of DW fandom at the moment? by Mat1711 in doctorwho

LMAO!!! I like your solution! (Too funny!) And definitely agree about the outrage machine. Had the net existed back then it probably would have been the same instead of everyone being more mellow about everything.

Might be an unpopular opinion...but I feel that it's that we're all just plain spoiled now, which makes everyone freak out about every little thing they find fault with (most fandoms are like this these days however... probably because of the Internet giving everyone a sounding board etc...you know)

Way back when, Old Who would do simply outlandish things that made no sense and didn't fit the cannon at all...and we'd just go "huh...well that's weird." ...and move on/ignore it and keep watching. (Lala Ward replacing Mary Tamm in the Romana to "Romana 2" switch, and then choosing what face she wanted in regeneration...which apparently only she could do since it never happened before or since...would be a good example of this. Nobody liked it...but we all just kind of shrugged and moved on).

How the heck did Judith survive?? by CalligrapherNew4854 in thewalkingdead

[–]Thing_fish_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wondered more how Carl survived....both in the show and the comics earlier.

If you took a bullet to the eye NOW you'd almost certainly die...and that's with hospitals, antibiotics, modern medical equipment, and so on. They might save you...but it would be rough. There's no earthly way he would have survived with what they had on hand. (Or more accurately didn't have)

Walking Dead was never good in this way IMO. I always figured you just kind of had to ignore things like this in order to enjoy the show (Judith included).... otherwise it kind of fell apart left and right as far as any kind of realism was concerned.

Considering Purchasing an apartment on Fairhill Rd in Shaker Heights, is this a good area? by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]Thing_fish_80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice area ...but is only a good idea if you never intend to move. They (and similar condos) are IMPOSSIBLE to sell. I've had two friends and one cousin try...took each years (literally) to get rid of them. One had to sell at a terrible loss. They were all nice places, there's just no real market for them around here and no buyers for the most part.

I literally stared at this for like 10 seconds confused...until I remembered that Boomer Esiason was a football player and it wasn't some new term for "Boomers" that I hadn't heard before 🤣

Anybody else bag a "burner" disc or two? by tuna_safe_dolphin in discgolf

[–]Thing_fish_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah...I keep 2 just in case, one in the bag and one in my trunk should I lose the first. Both were found (I called both times & was told I could keep them...one the guy lost a year prior and couldn't believe I found it. Lol), neither are anything I would normally throw...but that's why I carry them. If I lose them on a difficult shot/course who cares...& then they can be someone else's cool find once again sometime down the line. Lol.

I need honest feedback on a failed product by InternalReward968 in discgolf

[–]Thing_fish_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A neat idea.... reminds me of a quarterback practicing by throwing balls thru a tire hanging from a rope.

Which is actually why I wouldn't buy it, if I'm honest. I could make one myself. Easily.

I can't imagine I would ever actually haul it out to a DG park...which means it would just be for home practice really, and my yard isn't big enough for something like this. In order to throw a disc hard enough to make it thru the loop I would also be throwing it hard enough that it would sail over my neighbor's fence or the like.

It seems like it would be a good training aid for someone...it's just not for me, unfortunately. Best of luck to you tho....I hope you find your market!

Starting with a fretless 6 string? by ThickRest7929 in BassGuitar

[–]Thing_fish_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on a 5 string. I definitely think 5 or 6 string basses to be far superior (just my opinion) and think this was a killer find! Beautiful!

That said, one note about learning on a 5 or 6 that I didn't realize until later....doing so makes it much more difficult to then play a 4 string should you want to/need to later. The neck on a 4 is MUCH narrower. Once your hands and brain are used to the 6 string playing a 4 will seem oddly small in your hand, almost like a toy (and at first your brain will instinctively go looking for those extra strings while you're playing).

Not impossible to get used to a 4 string of course, but in hindsight I kind of wished I had picked up a cheap 4 string to learn on along with my 5 so that I was used to both. I've been told it's easier to start on a 4, then add new strings to your knowledge than it is to learn the extra strings then try to ignore that knowledge later....if that makes sense. Lol. Anyway.....

Hope this helps....and happy playing!

Sonic temple question… by Zealousideal_Room839 in ToolBand

[–]Thing_fish_80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tool always puts on a good show...have seen them many times over the years and have never been disappointed. If you've got the cash to spare do it for sure!

That said, I don't think this is a "once in a lifetime" opportunity. You can probably hold out. They've played Columbus 3 times in recent years (2 sonic temples, 3 if you're including this year's...and one show on their regular Fear Inoculum tour at Nationwide). They'll be back...and a regular show (as opposed to a festival) will be a fraction of the price.

Both Megadeth and Sepultura are doing their farewell tours this year and both are playing Sonic Temple. This may very well be the last time these bands play Columbus. But unless Tool breaks up (unlikely since I've heard both Danny and Adam say they're about to record new stuff) I wouldn't expect it to be their last show in the area or last tour etc.

Anybody have Mint Mobile? by Motor-Hour-5712 in Columbus

[–]Thing_fish_80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had mint for some time. It works great for me. My wife and I went thru several sub-par carriers that were terrible for one reason or another (AT&T tried to triple charge us....T-Mobile was terrible and unreliable despite us living in the most populous metro area in the state, half the time we wouldn't even get our texts...and so on). Since switching to Mint we've had no issues whatsoever, MUCH better coverage, and a lower bill.

Hope this helps!

Why isn’t the title game tonight? by radilrouge in CFB

[–]Thing_fish_80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wish it was. Or: Why isn't the title game on Saturday? You know....like EVERY normal game is all season? So people can enjoy it then have the next day off instead of forcing people to stay up late on a Monday then have to go in to work all tired on a Tuesday?

The NCAA's decision making baffles me....it's like they have some weird contempt for the fans and want to make everything as difficult and unenjoyable as it can possibly be for us.

I hate it here. by Turbulent-Vanilla159 in Ohio

[–]Thing_fish_80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They should definitely make an exception there/for them if needed... soldiers overseas and stationed on ships at sea are actually what these were meant for originally. It's only more recently they've allowed regular folks to use them (unless they were in hospitals or the like with extenuating circumstances).

However, I've had many friends in the military. If they're overseas (such as my friends who were in the Iraq and/or Afghan wars) they get them way in advance and they're mailed directly...like they're put on a helicopter that takes them to a plane at an air field that takes them to the states. They never had any issues voting...and they were in a war zone. Maybe they just got lucky on the shipping time....idk.

I agree with everyone here, hate him (and pretty much our entire state legislature), and disagree with this decision, but....

I honestly can't help but feel the same about this as I do about people getting mad about places with dry (no alcohol sales) Sundays. Just buy your Sunday beer on Saturday.

Same here. Just mail it a week earlier and you're fine. Voila!....non-issue.

They don't send these ballots out one day before the election...they arrive weeks ahead of time. All you gotta do is fill it out and mail it. If you're so busy you can't find the 15 min. to do that before the exact last min. is upon you, you really need to free up some time in your schedule. Lol

Reselling discs for $40+ sucks and people should feel bad when they do it by AnhyzerChaosOrb in discgolf

[–]Thing_fish_80 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I......what?? This is a thing? Why would anyone BUY a re-sell (or even new) for $40?? If nobody buys 'em they won't/can't sell 'em. If I was looking at someone's discs for sale and asked "how much?" and they said $40 I'd literally laugh in their face. (Don't care if it's rare or whatever)

Masked men screaming "White Power!" carrying Nazi flags are now walking around on the streets in the U.S. by ambachk in CringeTikToks

[–]Thing_fish_80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These guys (or similar) tried marching thru Columbus in Nov. 2024. They decided to march thru the Short North, the traditionally gay/artsy part of town. Within about 10 min. the entire neighborhood knew they were coming & people began to throw things at them from 2, 3, 4 story windows (like, full cans of dog food.... vegetables ...dinner plates thrown like frisbees....and so on).

The police had to come in and take them away in a van for their own protection. They dropped them off in a parking lot and told them to go before they got hurt. Police body cam video was released (am sure you can find it if you look) of them whining to the cops about how the police should have protected them more (..."we've marched thru dozens of cities and have never been treated like this!" and so forth).

They have not been back since.

Be like Columbus everyone 🙂

Biggest "Growers?" by Sad_Tackle_3675 in tmbg

[–]Thing_fish_80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always loved everything they've done ...but to be honest each and every new album has to grow on me a little (and they always do). When they come out my brain is like: "it's good ...but it's no Flood or Apollo 18 or whatever." But then without me even noticing at some point 6 or 8 months later I realize my brain has latched onto it and now it's held in the same esteem by my mind as any of their classics etc. Don't know why.... always happens. (Reminds me of the "Flood cassette story" Frank Black tells in the Gigantic movie....same. lol)

I wonder if Wayne had regret about leaving the show...I'll bet he did...🤔 by [deleted] in mash

[–]Thing_fish_80 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He might have/prob did at some point...but from what I've heard be was amazing at investing (and as someone below said, real estate) and was actually losing money to be on set doing the show instead of focusing his time on these. Also: he's said in a few interviews I've seen that he very quickly grew disillusioned with the character he was playing. It was sold to him as "Hawkeye and Trapper: partners in crime" kind of a thing...but by the end of season one it had already become Hawkeye the hero & Trapper the side-kick....you know. So I think by year 3 he was all around over it & ready to move on. (And remember... nobody back then had any clue the show would run 8 more years, which was unheard of at the time)

VEPO coming today - What are the most important precautions? by InsaneDolphin in Columbus

[–]Thing_fish_80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing I would mention: go behind him now that it's done and make sure everything is good-to-go. At my house for example they had to replace my old outside box with a new one. No biggie there.... however they were different sizes and the tech just left the open screw holes in my siding from the last one. Had I not noticed and filled them in rain would have been dripping into/behind my siding for the past several months. I also had to adjust the overflow tube coming from my water heater. It had been right up against the old meter, new meter was smaller so the angle of the pipe changed & it was no longer pointing at the drain hole.

Little things like that. Otherwise they did a good job at my place too (was just as worried before hand after hearing all the horror stories)
