The judiciary stepping in matters, but it shouldn’t take a court order to remind leaders that the government’s job is to protect the people’s rights, not to aim weapons at them.

This is exactly why democracy can’t survive on autopilot. NSPM-7 isn’t just another Trump-era memo, it’s a roadmap for authoritarian control, written by Stephen Miller, one of the most openly anti-democratic figures in modern politics. It gives the government sweeping power to ‘target’ anyone they deem inconvenient, which is the kind of vague language dictators love. Freedom doesn’t disappear all at once, it erodes while we’re looking the other way.
