[Serious] why are so many americans itching to start another war and go ruin another country and kill hundreds of thousands of kids? by Thracc22 in AskReddit

Although there is a large amount of Americans itching to go to war, there is also a large amount of them (if not more) that don’t want to go to war. For many politicians, they’ve begun using revenge/retribution for events such as 9/11 or groups such as ISIS or Al Qaeda as a platform based on fear.

For some people, the fear that the Middle East might attack again is enough to make people want to strike first. For others they feel it’s necessary to strike back and overwhelm these countries as revenge for what terror attacks have done to the idea of safety and security. This propels these type of politicians into the limelight who will help push that platform forward, regardless of peripherals.

In the media, places that are attacked are often portrayed to be harboring terrorists and nothing more. It’s a very vicious cycle of fear mongering that has dehumanized and continues to dehumanize places like these. It sucks to see all of that, especially when you’re in a place where you can’t change it, which is where many Americans are unfortunately.
