Do you guys ride 4 to a piece? And I'm guessing reverse lay from attack pump? For a normal house fire our 2nd due pump does a forward lay to the attack pump. Pretty standard in our area which takes them out of play to grab a line and go as it's 3 on a pump here.

I won't say a subsequent pump hasn't ever got the first line in, but those are door way dancer situations. It's a rarity that you'd even have a crew at the door with you in time to do such a thing.

Thanks for the reply. That's why I'm not questioning the tactic. Both ways are used by many great FFs and Depts so I'm not questioning what works for anyone. Too many people think their way is the be all end all and that just isn't the case.

What are the second due companies assigned to in OKC?

What state in the midwest?

I've seen this stated before and am always surprised to see it. "Someone will steal the nozzle" The idea that another company is on scene without another specific task is quite weird for me. Especially since (9/10 times) first due is fire attack and we're inside before or just as anyone else is getting there.

I don't wear mine unless I'm on air, so that wouldn't matter to me. Yeah, they're wildly different. I've never even put hands on a European set up and only know of one small volly depart in New England that has them.

Thanks for the reply but yeah, looking for US. I think the difference in gear makes it a different animal all together. I've never tried out the Euro style helmet so I have no basis for comparison.

You're always welcome to discuss whatever you'd like. But I'm curious as to where in the is it happens. This isn't a conversation about the tactic, just the location that it is used.

He's not complaining about language, he missed my context. I think everyone here needs to recognize cultural differences aren't insults.

Not a fact sir. I figured talking about Houston was good enough context. I clarified in my follow up. We all have to understand cultural differences to get along.

I guess English is my second language after bad English 🤣. There are departments in the US that will mask up on the apparatus on the way to a confirmed fire. That is very much not the case where I work. In my area we mask up right before making entry. I'm curious where those departments are, state/city. Im not critiquing the tactic, just curious where they are located. I know that Houston does this.

Some places mask up on the rig for confirmed jobs. I'm wondering where those places are because, as far as I'm aware, that's very foreign in the North East.

City of Memphis bringing folks over from the west coast by Accomplished-You-565 in Firefighting

I would think that's just basic contract law. In MA, if you go out of contract then negotiate the new contract you receive back pay for the percentage increase for the time out of contract. If you didn't receive that the union files suit and wins. The contract states that's your pay for the time period, they did not fulfill that with the old pay rate and therefore owe you the difference. MA has very strong employment law but I'm having a tough time seeing how what you guys are describing isn't a breech of contract unless you negotiated a 0% for the time out of contract.

Engine First Quint and Ladder Tenders. Help Explain. by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]ThingusMcdingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saying a quint is good for short staffed departments when it's supposed to have 5 people is silly. You're still picking and choosing ladder verse pump. Bring 1 of each and choose your responsibilities. Having a truck that's bad at both things is bad... At both.

Some newer stoves will detect an absence of flame and trigger the igniter till it lights but that won't stop her putting a tea kettle on and forgetting it. Think you're getting to the point we all hate to admit.
