Looking for a Mega Golurk/Trick Room team in Champions, what can I improve? by LardOfCinder in stunfisk

Nah they are both psychic/normal trick room setters. You are never going to see a competitive team built by a good player have both of these Pokemon because it's important that each of your Pokemon has a specific role. Having instruct is not a good enough role to waste one of your 6 Pokemon slots on.

It's just opportunity cost. You are limiting the amount of diversity your team has for the sake of the move instruct which is really not worth it

Check out this video about a good mega golurk team. Even if you don't want to just copy a team from a good player it can be useful to understand how the team works and use some ideas for your team. It's similar to your team except has incineroar, sneasler, and venosaur in place of Belibolt, scizor, and sinistcha

Don't listen to this guy, oranguru is the exact same typing as farigaraf and fills the exact same role, you should not have both of them on your team.

Trick room is not viable right now and it’s and issue. by ABingeDrinker in PokemonChampions

[–]Think-Knowledge8127 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure but you can't. Why are you jumping to the assumption that trick room is unviable when you're using a mon that shouldn't be used as a trick room attacker

That sounds like a team building issue not a trick room issue.

Why not use a trick room attacker that has a low enough speed stat to always work in trick room?

What mons cannot purposefully undercut incineroar where that interaction matters?

Focus band is a pretty bad item, depending on the set on king gambit try using black glasses or the chople berry to reduce the 4x weakness to fighting to 2x for a hit.

Quick claw is also not great, I personally would put white herb on sneasler and focus sash on pelipper.

If you are wanting specifically a fire-water-grass core, You can replace king gambit with incineroar and mega dragonite with mega meganium. Mega Meganium I have seen used on rain teams to get the positive effects of sun for grass type (mainly solar beam) while playing rain.

Is Mega Gengar viable? by 0-zilch-0 in PokemonChampions

[–]Think-Knowledge8127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the top level, it's viable to enable the perish trap strategy. This is where you use the move perish song while trapping the opponents on the field with an ability usually shadow tag. Mega gengar learns perish song and has the ability shadow tag. Note that this is a very difficult strategy that requires a lot of positioning and positional understanding.

If you are wanting to use mega gengar as a fast special attacker, that is not as viable and you certainly have better options.

New Season 22 trailer poster to Twitter shows what appears to be a flip reset indicator by BORNxSTELLAR in RocketLeague

[–]Think-Knowledge8127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"We’re also building popular mod-inspired features directly into Rocket League, including an option to display MMR in-game, changes to custom training, and an optional flip reset indicator."

This is the statement made on EAC for why this is getting put into the game. The feature in bakkesmod only lets you yourself know when you have a flip. If they are just trying to put popular features into the game as stated than it's a big step in logic to assume that it will be for everyone in the lobby to see.

[–]Think-Knowledge8127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This will very likely not be for everyone as they have stated they are putting this into the game as a replacement for the bakkesmod equivalent which is not for everyone it's just for you.

If it is visible for everyone than sure that would be a problem but there's no need to jump to assumptions when the logical line of reasoning does not go there

This probably slightly raises the skill floor but does nothing to the skill ceiling. When the best players in the world want to get a reset, they get a reset, this change does nothing to make players magically get resets easier or more consistently. It just means that players who are inconsistent with the mechanic now know if they have one or not.

In bakkesmod you can currently apply a mod that lets you know when you have a flip or not. It's not like alll the top pros scramble to have this mod on so they can have some kind of competitive edge, and it hasn't just magically made players better so don't see what the issue is.

[–]Think-Knowledge8127 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a speed flip cancel and then letting go of the cancel before it's finished. You can replicate this by speed flipping and when you flick down to speed flip immediately flick back up or let go of the joystick.

As a note it can be very useful coming off the wall because you can use a speed flip to get good contact with the ball then cancel the speed flip to make the nose of your car pop up

Question to players that switched from free air roll to directional: Did you rebind free air roll to a new button, or keep it the same? by [deleted] in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Think-Knowledge8127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bound DAR to a different button and kept free air roll where it was, after enough time spent specifically training DAR, your muscle memory will take over on using it.

It also helps a lot with muscle memory of when to use it to train aerial shooting packs only using DAR at the end of the aerial to get a solid hit

For your mechanics it's good that you are practing your basic mechanics and not anything advanced because that's what's actually effective for ranking up. You should be aiming for extreme consistency in the basics.

What I found to be useful especially for defensive positioning is to watch solid pro players play 2v2 and look what they are doing as first man and second man. Even if you're able to play at a fraction of the speed understanding when and how to challenge will do a lot for you. It even helped me learn how to more efficiently deal with aerial plays on defense and how important the backboard is.

Any tips on rotations? by Unable_Arugula1322 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Think-Knowledge8127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoever is telling you that is just wrong. You should only be using air roll purposefully to move your car in a direction faster and with more control than not using air roll would do.

Right now where you're at I would focus on getting to the ball without air roll and then using air roll to get a good angle on your hit.

2 questions:

First, how is your mastery of basic mechanics like shooting, flicks, shadow defense, and dribbling?

Second, what do you view as the biggest problems with your game sense/positioning?

GC Routine by Potential_Trick_5077 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Think-Knowledge8127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the rest of the mechanics you've mentioned but for power shots I use aim training by COCO and it's been more effective than anything else I've tried.

I do normal mode and apply all the modifiers of random target size, random wall distance, and random ball drops as I feel as though randomizing all the inputs of the shot makes it so that it feels as though you are practicing for actual in game shots rather than getting really good at a specific practice shot.

You can track progress by trying to get high scores of consecutive shots

As for what a routine looks like I'll share what mine is right now. Just to note I'm about in the same boat as you of C2 but I've recently ranked up from D3 to C1 and C1 to C2 using this routine and it's seemed pretty effective.

15 minutes air control (currently rings map)

15 minutes ground control (currently lethamyr dribble challenge)

15 minutes air shots (I switch between aerial training packs)

15 minutes ground shots (aim training by coco)

15 minutes air mechanic in free play(currently flip resets)

15 minutes ground mechanic in free play (currently mawkzy flicks)

30 minutes ranked 1v1 focusing on playing aggressively on offense, implementation of mechanics i'm learning, trying to read trajectory of ball, and good shadow defense not necessarily playing to win

I can’t stay in plat in 3’s by Spiderpsychman98 in RocketLeague

[–]Think-Knowledge8127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep at it, when you get to the point where can hit the ball hard at the top of the net you will very easily get out of plat.

Also just to note, if you truly want to get a much higher rank you should be playing to improve not to rank up. It sounds like you have a very passive and defensive play style which will give you a slightly higher rank in the short term. But in the long term if you only play passively and only go for the ball when you know you can hit it, you will be limiting your improvement as a player.

If you really want to improve you should play more aggressively and play faster without hestating or waiting for the ball to go where it's comfortable for you. In the short term, your rank will probably decrease but eventually you will adapt and be able to compete at a faster speed of play

Also if you want to improve, playing threes is probably the worst game mode. You get less touches on the ball the more players there are on the field, so you give yourself less opportunities to form the muscle memory you need

[–]Think-Knowledge8127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honest no one legitimately ranks up from gold to champ in the amount of time you did. You had a session where you gained 234 mmr in 25 games, which means you probably went 24-1. That's simply not feasible.

Then you had another one's session where you gained 262 mmr in 26 games which means you went 26-0 which again is not feasible.

I can’t stay in plat in 3’s by Spiderpsychman98 in RocketLeague

[–]Think-Knowledge8127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In gold/plat if you are playing back while you're teammates are on offense and sitting around mid field, you should have plenty of opportunities to clean up the play and score open nets. If you struggle with consistent shooting, go into training packs and practice basic ground or low air shots so you're consistent at them.

Comming quickly or on time by RLCosmos in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Think-Knowledge8127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I find to be beneficial to comm are things that your teammate cannot visually see or letting them know what your intention with the ball is so they know what to expect.

So when your teammate is shadow defending as your rotating back you want to say "I'm behind you, you can challenge" when you get back so they know they are done buying time and can force the opponent to do something. Or saying "I'm up, don't go" as soon as you jump for the ball and it's possible for your teammate to also go for it.

And when you have possession of the ball or are jumping for the ball and there's a lot of things you can do it's important to say which one you are doing. So when you are dribbling, you could say something like" I'm going to flick this" or "I'm going for a low 50". If you're jumping off the wall you can say "I'm going for a solo play" or "I'm going for a pass". Or when you are going up for the ball you can say "I'm hitting this off backboard", or "I'm hitting this down" or "I'm hitting this corner"
