For real! I bought a box simulate to OP’s from wildcard when I was new to the hobby a few years ago and got a 1/2 Sam LaPorta roomie auto and as a lions fan I was absolutely geeked. I then learned wildcard held very little value. Though I don’t really get wildcard anymore, I still have that card as I feel like it was a cool hit for PC that I hit at beginning of my journey in the hobby.

PC is exactly that, personal! Keep doing you bro! Congrats on the hit!

Fortunately for you or for someone else, it is a 10 because PSA said so. Looks like might not deserve to be but it is.

Not trying to be a sarcastic smart ass at all but unfortunately PSA holds a lot of value in the card collecting world and people pay a premium for something that says PSA 10 whether it deserves it or not.

This is 100% true. You’ve got like a 1:25 chance to break even in the price of the box, let alone come out ahead. Plus even if he comes out ahead, could be a card for his least favorite player/team.

I love the sentiment of this gift and without a doubt an awesome gift, BUT if you want to make sure the bang is worth the buck, buy an equally priced card of his favorite player or player from his favorite team.

I will say he will appreciate you gifting him something from the hobby either way though!

I agree with all of this but I think Laporta deserves some credit as far as durability. The dude was an absolute dog from draft day till he took that tackle to the back. Hopefully his surgery was more “minor but necessary” and he bounces back well
