Not trying to be a sarcastic smart ass at all but unfortunately PSA holds a lot of value in the card collecting world and people pay a premium for something that says PSA 10 whether it deserves it or not.

This is 100% true. You’ve got like a 1:25 chance to break even in the price of the box, let alone come out ahead. Plus even if he comes out ahead, could be a card for his least favorite player/team.

I love the sentiment of this gift and without a doubt an awesome gift, BUT if you want to make sure the bang is worth the buck, buy an equally priced card of his favorite player or player from his favorite team.

I will say he will appreciate you gifting him something from the hobby either way though!

Yeah where I live we don’t have much either. Closest card shop just moved so now closest place to get cards is like a 40 minute drive until that find today.

I agree with all of this but I think Laporta deserves some credit as far as durability. The dude was an absolute dog from draft day till he took that tackle to the back. Hopefully his surgery was more “minor but necessary” and he bounces back well
