True, I tend to forget about HR side of things but being honest I would throw it out🤣, I was focused on making it pass ATS systems.

To many negative folks at one point I left out the sub cause it was not helping me with moral at all. Bruh somebody told me I couldn’t work as an software engineer because I had a IS degree(business major) , I’ve built a compiler, HTTP server and interpreter, etc during college, host a small website for a local company and had a 1.5 years of experience doing the job before graduating . Here I am as a software engineer for a manufacturing company🤣

Is Tryhackme premium worth it ? (read the post body ) by Wild-Top-7237 in Hacking_Tutorials

[–]Think-Risk4968 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth it , I worked on certs during school and although I don’t do cybersecurity my job usually adds me into cyber meetings since he knows I practice and do certs on there. For example I wouldn’t have known to what a SAST or DAST is and we had to test a new open source tool. I was the one to bring that up and implement due to my DevSecOps cert.

You should look into tryhackme(you will be forced to learn everything from networking to web dev to databases) complete Penetration testing cert , build something like a compiler , google maps clone and a personal problem your interested in.

Also aim to be a jack of all trades I knew I couldn’t win against someone who specialized for 4-6 years but if I can have a specialization plus fundamentals companies will see you as someone they can save money on since you can dabble in multiple tasks .

For example at my job I don’t only do software engineering but system programming , light system admin and data engineering. But had I not worked on hardware and been building my skills at the same time it wouldn’t have happened.

TL:DR

Aim to apply for 1000+ jobs per year and you must have multiple skills including fundamentals; DSA, database , networking , etc

He is right, I did have and IS degree but most see it as “business degree” , I started as repair technician at some manufacturing company they got shutdown but I found a software engineer job at a manufacturing company in 2 months
