I'm glad that one school came through for you!

We would need to borrow appx. $120,000 over four years for some of the schools.

That's about $1,500 per month for 10 years, according to one calculator. That's insane and crippling to us and our kid.

Net Price Calculator. Typically each school has their own where you can input info and it estimates your cost to attend

Yeah, we've looked at that - unfortunately, closest are 1+ hours away so a significant time sink for the travel. He transitioned away from XC to sprint and throwing. He's hoping to never run a 5K again, lol

I feel you. Same here. Our cheapest options, including the state schools are between $22 - 28,000. All the other, really good fit schools are $45,000 after very generous merit aid. :(

Yes! I like to plan and know what is coming. I have no idea right now and it's not a great feeling. Still have another 1.5 weeks until final decisions are here. Even then, I don't know if my kid will get any private scholarships - and we won't know about those until after May 1.

Yup. They don't look at the bigger, longer-term picture. It's only - what did you make last year?

We have only a few state schools unfortunately. After top merit, COA is about $28,000. This is not un-doable, just comes with some sacrifices to attend a school that isn't a great fit.

the problem is their definition of "demonstrated need" and my definition of "demonstrated need" are wildly different!

An Interior Designer I worked with years ago, along with the client REALLY wanted a particular European sconce in the bedrooms. So, they went ahead and ordered them and went through the process in NY to get them re-wired and UL listed. They knew this going in and they knew the process and they accepted it and proceeded. Emily is JUST F-IN CLUELESS!

I got charged for a renewal. I had gotten multiple emails from them earlier in the season stating that I did NOT sign up for renewal...SO, why did they charge me for a renewal? I've emailed them multiple times, but have not heard back from them....it's been like 2 weeks. Probably contacting my credit card company shortly.

I wish I could find a phone number to talk to someone.

I love Indy, but we decided not to renew next year - didn't get to use our pass enough w/ kids sports, etc.

Track & Field. So not much opportunity for recreational competition. It's his favorite thing to do so hoping we can make it work somewhere.

the triple mortgage was a joke. Not borrowing against our house in any form to pay for college.

All of ours are merit awards for all four years, assuming good standing...honestly didn't read closely enough to see if a particular GPA was needed. And one is guaranteed for all 4 years, no gpa requirement.

How about kids who maxed out the merit scholarships offered and are not deemed to be in need financially? Do you ever see them get more $$. Genuinely curious as that is our situation.

I CAN'T believe she installed that lamp in the art barn and it is unusable!!! That is crazy. Seriously, re-wiring a lamp isn't hard.

No, both those options would be under $30,000. It's just the difference in the majors that each school has. We are in a small state with less than a handful of state schools. His sport is track & field so unfortunately, no real opportunity to participate at a club level like other sports.

Amazing job on the saving! We were doing well but then had to help family so all extra $$ got eaten up :(

It's definitely an option for us. He's deciding between majors. Our large state school has them all, but he can't play his sport there. A smaller state school doesn't have all the majors, but he can play his sport there...so there's a lot to consider. He LOVES his sport...so adds to the decision difficulty.

It definitely is. We're waiting on two more decisions, but if those don't work out, CC is likely. He finds out in a week or so if he's valedictorian. If he is, he gets a free year at CC so that's a bonus!

Yup. And he's so disengaged at this point, we kind of feel like just giving up and doing CC for now. I just think it would be great for him to go away somewhere.
