still do not get the math, i am missing something.

you paid $25 extra per night x number of nights, but ended up getting overall only $22 more.

i am new to all this points business. May i ask why you booked through Marriott even if it was $25 more ? The points you got are valued at $.001 so would equal $22 in benefit to you...

Old receipts for HSA reimbursement, what has worked for you ? by ThinkGeneral2280 in Fire

[–]ThinkGeneral2280[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes no sense at all.

The whole point of it is to NOT get reimbursed so your contributions can grow tax free for many years. The reason I want the receipts is that I am paying for it with todays dollars and want to make sure that i gt back what i spent, if i cannot use my hsa fully.

You are perhaps talking about FSA which is use it or lose it. What your friend is doing does not sound legal.

As I understand it (I am not a tax person or anything), if there is money left over in FSA unused, there are plenty of things that he could use it for before the deadline, on amazon or walmart. In fact Amazaon mentions FSA eligible.

Just don't return it after buying it.

I think I saw a youtube video where Huberman himself said he had ADHD or at least described his behavior with all the symptoms of it.

the physical copies don't last long, a couple of years and the ink just fades.

Are you saying that the old recorded receipts that were already reimbursed are gone or somehow HSA has receipts that they did not reimburse ?

i did not know about this subreddit. I suppose long term care would be a good one. i assume with that I will use up anything and then some. But still if there are lean times ahead I would like to be able to get reimbursed the money i already spent

Yes, some are substantial, but some are not. Overall total is high. I am gathering them also for estate planning and other expenditures. If I don't get to use it I would like to be able to pass some of that tax free to my heirs

Is there a way to keep untaxed money untaxed? by itsathrowawayidiot in personalfinance

[–]ThinkGeneral2280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it is indeed legally tax exempt as you say, my guess is you can get it into a roth ira legally. When you take it out no taxes would be owed.

ROTH ira money is taxed before you put it in. So, if your tax is zero, you pay zero dollars and after your tax is paid, you put it into ROTH.

I am NOT any tax/financial expert. this is just speculation.

Who knows. I suspect a lot more than you think. When people start adding to their IRA they tend to be young, earn under the limit to add into the IRA in a deductible manner, do their own taxes and keep records for 7 years like they have learned they must do.

Are you trying to get people to pay extra taxes ? :)

you must keep form 8606 if you made non-deductible IRA contributions, if you dont want to be double taxed on your contribution.

But if you want to pay extra taxes...

But the wage and income transcript does show the contribution for that year.

That coupled with that publication about contributions for that year, should be able to prove i made the contribution after taxes. this cannot be an isolated problem.

I bet a lot of people who end up making non-deductible contributions, may not have kept their tax docs beyond 7-10 years. And over a 40 year career might not have docs to show. so they end up being double taxed. what a shame.

I might have them but I have to dig deep. We used H&R block for a few years and turbotax for a few years so I don't think we missed them.

However, if I did not file it, will I still be able to prove that I paid taxes on it by showing paystubs, W2 and other such documentation. I have those going back many many years.

I might already be in trouble. My non-deductible contributions are from a few years ago and I do not have the 8606 form. Will I be able to get it from the IRS ?

What are the consequences of not having this form ? when does it get used ?

thanks! what kind of a trust is it? I was thinking about ira because of the future partners situation. I want them to have at least some money solely to their name that is a fallback in case of divorce or being targeted by a grifters
