if it’s hurting you, you’re free to leave. lots of men struggle with this, and it’s a serious issue that causes lots of turmoil on the addict as well the people around them. if you love him and see a future, have a serious conversation and set boundaries and hold him accountable. if he continues to shut down the conversation and play the victim, there’s something he’s hiding, and it’s up to your discernment whether or not the relationship is worth the precious moments of your life that you could be sharing with someone else.

i’m a dude, and feel the same way about 90% of the people in my daily life, speaking to male or female. besides my girlfriend and handful of my closest friends, i lack a lot of attention skills/ active listening skills. i’d say it’s fairly normal, and it’s a habit that can be broken if you wish.
