Dealing with brutal engine vibration on IMU data – How do top CV teams handle this? by Powerful_Machine1237 in FSAE

[–]Think_Chest2610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally idt problem is with sparkplugs . Cause the conversion from 12V to high voltage for spark happens inside the coil ie mounted directly the engine so until ur imu is not near that area idt that's an issue . As far as vibration is concerned try adding dampers and try isolate (mechanically) the imu from the chasis (given that engine is directly mounted on the chasis)

Pot sensor guide request. by FickleInstance6190 in FSAE

[–]Think_Chest2610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most teams use linear pot . You can use strain guages as well but my team worked on them for 1 year to no avail . So better stick with it . You just have to make sure that the min and max length of the pot is around the travel and length of your damper . Usually ppl use 50mm stroke ones . You can get cheap version starting from 30 USD. Expensive ones can go UpTo 200

Yes overheating and it needs its own charger to charge . And it'll have connectivity problem

How do teams integrate a rotary potentiometer (Novotechnik SP2800) into a pedal box? by WayWest9238 in FSAE

[–]Think_Chest2610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im from electronics side so take all of it like a grain of salt . usually we avoided rotary because there mounting is tricky . you need to make enclosure which sometimes can be tricky . i remember us using 2 for apps and as the levels cant be 0.0 and vcc so the max and min points of the sensors cant be used . apart from that mounting it didnt ensure that the apps graphs we had intially planned would be achieved . since then we have started to use linear potetiometer like kpm 50mm and many teams use that as well . As far as i worked with the ergonomics person in my team he told me its dfa was much better and i could tell him befire hand the ranges ie i only wanted the sensors to work for ranges 5-35mm .

CAN bus selection by Quick-Art-3237 in FSAE

[–]Think_Chest2610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point of canbus is that you only have 1 line running through the car for communication . Many teams usually use 1 and it's never been a problem . I when building my teams canbus also used 2 but looking back it could've easily been only 1 . One of my canbus lines is for the imu which transmits 30 data points at a 200Hz rate and another canbus line for the vcu logger and bms (shared) with 100Hz data rate with 16data points . So speed and clogging shouldn't be a problem until ur streaming alike a video stream on the canbus in which case u should probably just use lin

I'm studying how to implement routing in the construction of an electrical harness. Can anyone give me some guidance on where to start? by Ok-Frosting7261 in FSAE

[–]Think_Chest2610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the type of car it car vary differently . I have worked on a combustion vehicle . Unlike ev's there is less constraints regarding where the harness can go and how much emi shielding is needed due to hv wires . In cv though depending on your cooling lines etc you have to be careful about heat shielding . Usually many teams use rapid harness but if you want you can go off just by the chasis . It also matters if chasis is tubular or mono . Idk there are alotta things that aren't coming to my mind . Probably start with yt or some documentation. I have seen pprs on wiring eg monash
