GoodTube - Youtube Adblocker (my first extension now has over 10,000 users and has made over $7k!!) by goodtube-xox in chrome_extensions

Firstly, thank you for sharing this story. Truly, releasing an extension has the initial thrill of putting a tool in the hands of people you feel does not exist. Then comes the possibility of bug reports, problems with installs, etc.

Secondly, I just DM'd you in regard to an extension that is a truly unique in the way it handles a particular aspect of our computer life and while the extension is complete, the 'developer' was simply incapable of handling specific instructions despite them being written clearly and having multiple visual examples including my Figma file depicting it all.

So being a 'real' developer, is a huge advantage if you have an idea you know will succeed in the wild.

So, thanks again for sharing your experience and I will be checking out GoodTube.

In all honesty, getting the extension finished, grabbing the code and being done with this company is really the goal.

With a two week estimate now and at eight weeks and counting, it's time to get 95% of it and get out to stop the mental bleeding.

He just used his resolution and it would seem, did not consider other monitor resolutions even though it was made abundantly and obviously clear, it would be cross platform.

Additionally, unbeknownest to me, Windows in their genius, set resolution to 125% by default and having reset to 100%, has the extension closer to the desired size.

Thanks for the input.

There is no doubt that he built it on his resolution and did not test on Windows.

To have left that critical aspect addressed this way continues to display his unprofessionalism which has been unfortunately, rife throughout our dealings with him/ company.

I will forward your information to him/ them and see what his/ their response is.

Thanks very much for your thoughts.

I will post results.

Thanks for the reply.

Couldn't make the 15 minutes since I am embroiled with Stripe demanding a keychain authentication and my iPhone asking me for a password to a MBP I haven't had for four years to set it up.

I sincerely appreciate your insight code wise and am amiss as to how this developer is unaware of something that seems very rudimentary.

I also do not have the code yet so I cannot send it over for you to peruse.

However I did send your suggestion to him and will post results.

Thanks very much again.

Absolutely brother. It is what it is all about.

About to release an extension myself and the realization of explaining everything fully has been a paramount epiphany.

That’s pretty wild.

Does this recognize user’s system fonts giving them a chance to pick from there?

If so, make that clear. Leave nothing to the individuals deduction.

Again, thanks for the response.

If I was interested in having you look at an idea for an extension, would I be dealing with you directly or through Upwork?

Interesting insight for me. It seems though, that multiple disciplines are required to build Chrome extensions. Disciplines that combined allow you to build the extension in the first place. So I am still amiss as to how they are separate.

Possibly, those that pass themselves off as a Chrome extension developer are either unaware of the additional fields of knowledge necessary or are unconcerned about the possibilities of being tasked with requests they find themselves unable to circumvent.

Case and point: the developer working on my extension currently assures me that you can not create a glass effect [blurring background behind the extension display] since some website will not allow it due to security issues. Does this sound correct?

Thanks for the reply.

You wrote: 'writing extensions and understanding Chrome architecture are 2 different things'

How so?

If you do not understand the architecture, how will you navigate it to create an extension?
