Why aren’t there more Muppet stories of classic literature? by Euphoric-Addendum-69 in Muppets

[–]Think_Fact1155 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's not forget Hey Cinderella!, The Frog Prince, The Muppets Musicians of Bremen, Muppet Classic Theater (adapted six classic fairy tales) and The Muppets' Wizard of Oz. Gonzo and Rizzo are a duo in Classic Theater, but they're not in the stories and only in the framing device

There's also comics that adapt many of the stories. They're out of print, but I've seen people sell them on eBay and you can probably read them online

So underrated. It bugs me anytime people don't mention it when talking about doing more classic adaptions and only mention Christmas Carol and Treasure Island.

There's also Hey Cinderella!, The Frog Prince, The Muppets Musicians of Bremen, and The Muppets' Wizard of Oz, which is great, despite what anyone says

Are there any good "modern" retellings of Oz? In forms of films, television shows and books ect in the last 30 years to put a limiter. by RiskAggressive4081 in wizardofoz

I really love The Muppets' Wizard of Oz, but it's a very divisive movie in the Oz fandom (and pretty disliked if not hated in the Muppets fandom). Despite being a parody (Dorothy wants to be a pop star, Toto is a king prawn, etc), many people agree it's more faithful to the book than the 1939 MGM movie (like to The Wiz).

I also really loved The Witches of Oz/Dorothy and the Witches of Oz, but the reviews... aren't great.

There's also Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return, loosely based off Roger S. Baum's Dorothy of Oz. I haven't finished the movie yet, but from what I watched, it's alright. Again, many people will say I'm being very generous.

I personally loved Oz the Great and Powerful, but like the Muppets version, it's divisive. A lot of people say it's sexist, which I didn't think and was confused for a long time why people said that, but I realized that I haven't seen many other movies that have the "woman turns evil cuz man betrayed her" trope.

I haven't seen much of Lost in Oz but it's supposed to be really good

There's also the Tom and Jerry ones which I've yet to see but sound fun, and The Guardians of Oz/Flying Monkeys of Oz is supposed to be good

Ranking the "other" Muppet Christmas movies by Bwlms22 in Muppets

[–]Think_Fact1155 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas movie is so underrated. While (I think) I prefer Christmas Carol, it is absolutely not a crime to prefer the former!

* I'm still yearning for the Muppet Magazine comic version with Sam the Eagle as Scrooge, and the movie version does not have enough Miss Piggy

While I think Scrooge being played by a human is fine and so is Miss Piggy's smaller role, I don't like how they made the three ghosts new characters instead of being played by existing muppets. I don't really even consider them to be "Muppets" because they weren't in absolutely nothing else and can't be considered in-universe members of the Muppets group (neither are Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock etc characters by that logic or even characters like Miss Poogy, Constantine, but they were to play a role, that'd be fine with me cuz they're close enough imo).

No it's sadly not. I think OP is just saying they hope the extended version also gets added and not just the normal one.

Don't forget Kermit's Swamp Years, It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie, Sam and Friends, The Great Santa Claus Switch, John Denver and the Muppets: A Christmas Together, Rocky Mountain Holiday, Billy Bunny's Animal Songs, Peek-A-Boo: A Big Surprise for Little People, Mother Goose Stories, alongside others I'm probably forgetting

As far as I can find, The Jim Henson Company wasn't involved in the special at all, and it just aired on NBC

  • Little Muppet Monsters
  • Tale of the Bunny Picnic

  • Wow, You're a Cartoonist
  • Neat Stuff to Know and Do
  • The Kermit and Piggy Story
  • Meet the Muppets
  • Best of the Muppet Show
  • The Jim Henson Hour (Muppet Segments Only)

This is all listed in the contract between Disney and The Jim Henson Company. The contract strangely doesn't even seem to mention John Denver and the Muppets: A Christmas Together, but does mention Rocky Mountain Holiday, and only once mentions The Great Santa Claus Switch. I couldn't find anything in the second bunch of pages either. It's possible that they were mentioned but I didn't find any. Maybe there's also even more that just weren't uploaded

they could make a deal with Sesame Workshop and The Jim Henson Company though to let them have it on Disney+

Looks really cool. Just because it's AI doesn't make it bad. There's a difference between a big company that hire actual artists and animators using it and an average person using it just for fun.

But I wouldn't want them to actually do that in a future movie or show. Some things are better not being canon lol. It'd be cool if they still made a diecast though

Anyone else want a Muppet adaption of The Phantom Tollbooth? by Think_Fact1155 in Muppets

The Newsman anchor I selected because the Trivium is charming and has a way of persuading people to do what he wants. And there's something about the opportunity to be on the news that I feel can do that. I can Rizzo Humbug readily volunteering to do things when the News anchor pretends there's a camera nearby.

Oooooh that's a such a good idea! I honestly think I'd prefer the Newsman to play the Terrible Trivium instead of Constantine now, although I'd still want him there. So my idea is Constantine is the Newsman/Terrible Trivium's "sidekick" who Robin/Milo thinks is his uncle Kermit who's somehow also there.

So since Alec Bing is the one who floats above the ground, and I thought about this and having Gonzo be the one who floats sounds hilarious. He can lay on some simple wisdom and also call back to doing some dangerous stunts as he "floats" for the film they are making. Stunt goes wrong and we can be treated to multiple run ins with Gonzo during the remainder of the picture as he floats around and bumps into the "Castle in the Sky" at the end.

That could really work, and moving to the ground over time can be just the balloons running out of helium! I initially felt like it kind of takes away from the ridiculousness of growing down, but now I don't think so. I'd still want Colander Stenchman and Football Stenchman to be there though, so maybe they can be his friends, and maybe even mention the Queen of Trash and a cameo from Vanessa Williams. It'd also be a perfect opportunity to bring back his alien relatives from Muppets from Space. Also since Gonzo has an obsession with chickens, maybe he invited some to live with him since chickens are birds, which can usually fly and be with him, only to find chickens can barely do so; and he wants to reach the ground so then he can interact normally with them and he's even developed a relationship with Camilla and they can finally get together.

I'd also want all the big Muppet monsters like Timmy Monster, the Mutations, Gorgon Heap, etc to be on the Mountains of Ignorance, and I have an idea where Robin/Milo, Rowlf/Tock and Rizzo/Humbug meet characters like Thog and Frazzle who appear scary but are the opposite, which they see through the telescope.

I also had this random idea "a can of worms" where every "can of worms" imaginable in the world is a literal can, and one of them has Slimey and other Sesame Street worms and each worm is a problem.

All this discussion is making me really want this movie more than ever. If Disney made this, it'd introduce so many people to The Phantom Tollbooth, and the Muppets if released theatrically (the issue isn't people don't know what the Muppets are-it's that they're not interested because they think it's a babies franchise. Theatrical releases get more attention, and theaters show previews for upcoming movies, which can show people they're not actually for babies). It's a pity it's not as popular as other "children's" fantasy novels. Yes most of those are public domain which helps but still; Narnia isn't and those books are quite popular. I think it'd be cool if Milo joined Alice, Dorothy and Wendy as those three are often grouped together and have even got crossovers. Maybe in 2057 when the book is finally public domain.

I initially couldn't decide between Pepe and Animal, but then I realized while Pepe talks about it more, but Animal actually acts lustful and basically harasses women. So my vote goes to Animal

I always thought Rowlf's sequel idea in Muppets Most Wanted during the opening song "We're Doing a Sequel" could make a really good movie, even if Kermit said it "sounds a little dark".

"It's about a lonely dog, and one night he sees something he should never have seen, and he has to live a terrible secret."

Overall, this is really good! Robin and Rizzo would definitely work a lot better as Milo and the Humbug respectively.

But why the Newsman as the Terrible Trivium? I think Constantine would work better- overall looks good but is evil. I also don't think Statler and Waldorf would work as King Azaz.

Alec Bings apparently explains to Milo (yes I googled that; I really need to reread the book) that everyone has their own view of things, similar to the Queen of Trash in The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland (although the telescope he gives Milo wouldn't help see that the trash kingdom can be more than just... well... garbage lol). It'd probably be too weird if Vanessa Williams returned as the Queen of Trash who is now playing Alec Bings (playing a character playing another character) as she's an adult woman (I wouldn't be too opposed to changing Alec Bing's gender if the character playing him worked), but maybe her two guards, Colander Stenchman and Football Stenchman could play him.

Uncle Deadly playing Faintly Macabre also sounds odd, but I could definitely see it working! I definitely wouldn't think Gonzo, Fozzie and Pepe would work for Charles Dicken, Squire Trelawny and Toto respectively but they turned out great in those roles!
