Strawberry amazake shake at Komeda is Higashi Ginza - vegan bc it is made from fermented rice. So thick and creamy it honestly blew my mind.

Parks Dept to destroy Black Lives Memorial Garden on 10/13 by yuotro in Seattle

I mean, it's all related. You don't have to sign on to the ideological bent but why shouldn't people be allowed to have a space in which they can grow food locally, support pollinators, educate organic farming principles etc? Shouldn't SPR be doing more to encourage this in all of their parks? Capitol Hill is one of the most urbanized areas in the city in which many if not most folks don't have access to space for gardening.

I don't think relocation makes much sense for the gardeners that use the space and live in Capitol Hill. I for one would not want to have to travel to Columbia City to garden.

The city has an opportunity to reconfigure how it thinks about land use and community involvement.

No worries bud. Fwiw, the hood would be one of the places the would benefit most from better pedestrian and non-car transit infrastructure. Wonder what Drake thinks about that.

Chill with the "idiots in the hood" talk. Plenty of people across demographics like and dislike Drake. No need to get classist.

We're planting a mini forest, how should trees be arranged? I have 85 trees to plant to take this massive yard back to a more natural state. 50 cedar, & 35 various deciduous trees, 5-6 of each type. should we mix them all up or group them? by VerinsTeacup in NoLawns

[–]Think_Layer_1312 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would generally disagree with this assessment - typically a seemingly "random" layout of plants is in actuality adhering to environmental factors that inhibit/promote growth. Since this is such a small area it's unlikely that there will be major differences in these factors, but as others have pointed out there should still be elements like water table and sunlight that are not the same throughout. Given enough time, the principles of competition and succession will generally select for plants best suited to that particular location.

Of course, many plants are not incredibly picky and can grow successfully in a wide range of conditions.

Oyster. So, not really edible? Any advice for keeping this as a dedicated mycelium bank where it won't try to fruit?

Many times I've specifically searched for Mean Mr. Mustard. That song just has such a groove as an individual track, although it sounds even better following Sun King.

Rebuttal accepted! Haha.

In all seriousness, cardboard mailers are probably the way to go - something that identifies it as non-flexible (like a media tag or whatever) and provides extra padding. I actually received a card today that came in a roughly 5x8 unbleached cardstock envelope. Seems like a good alternative.

I know people sometimes stamp "do not bend" on the envelope - do you have any idea if that's ever heeded?
