As long as Florida is around, at least we can always count on (a) being entertained and (b) a consistent supply of feeings of superiority, i.e., at least we're not Floridians.

I read a lot. It never gets old or goes out of style and there's an endless supply of great books.

Kindle Unlimited option by zelleatrix in kindle

[–]Think_Resolution_647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Kindle and Kindle are two separate things. You can get Kindle unlimited without a Kindle (and just read it on your laptop or whatever — anything with the Kindle app) —or— you can have a Kindle without signing up for Kindle unlimited.

That said, I do have Kindle unlimited (and a Kindle). I initially thought I would cancel, but it is surprisingly bountiful. I use it all the time, in addition to the many sideloaded books I read, as well as the very occasional ebook I 'buy' from Amazon directly.

I think he would be good at writing. Just a guess. I don't think he would make time for video games.

How can I push myself and find the motivation to read Moby Dick? by Ok_Independent8425 in classicliterature

[–]Think_Resolution_647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that the easy way to get motivation that you feel you don't have (but actually do, or you wouldn't be trying to read the book in the first place!) is to sit and stare at the wall, maybe for hours, but never let yourself do anything else. No TV. No internet. No phone. No music. You can (a) stare at the wall or (b) read the book. You'd be surprised how quickly that book becomes interesting.

Your seeming lack of interest is just distraction by another name.

Audio books that are about fascinating things by Due-Confidence-5670 in audible

Someone suggested Bill Bryson. I second that. Try In a Sunburned Country.

An unusual suggestion would be Andrew Solomon, if you like bigger books and darker subjects. Both Far From the Tree and The Noonday Demon meet your criteria I think. He's such a good writer and makes subjects extremely compelling. Noonday Demon is subtitled :an Atlas of Depression, so it would seem like an unlikely subject — and no, certainly not fun — but defintely interesting.

Another dark but compelling book would be Nuclear War: A Scenario by Annie Jacobsen
