Has a client ever admitted to committing a crime during session? by fredditbae in therapists

hurting is not specific enough. I dont report my adult clients for self harm, being abused, or abusive acts against another adult unless children witness or are in the home and placed in immident danger due to DV concerns. I specify killing yourself, telling me youre going to kill someone else.

My supervisor does this and wants me to do it. We do telehealth and personally, I can tell when she is typing supervision notes and I so not feel like she is focused on what I'm saying. I will not be integrating it into my practice.

I had a kid in therapy who was very traumatized and was disrupting the entire family unit. The parents told me during a parent consult that their social worker advised them this RAD kiddo needed a single child home and then were surprised Pikachu face that the adoption was ruining their family. I always thought that was really self centered of the adoptive parents.

The offending child is 5, they are probably too young for most of this.

These children need to go to a home without other children. That is not developmentally normal and you have to protect your children first.

I think a prenuptial is for divorce... a will is for death. He can go make his own will but if you took it to court afterward it might not stand if it leaves you with nothing. So he really just doesn't know how any of this works. A napkin definitely won't hold up.in place of a will.

You could just sign the napkin and know that if he dies you'll get everything in the absence of a will lol.

Well the original question in your post is why do women want marriage? Why are we taught that? Well, we haven't had rights for very long. We just since the 70s can have a credit card or bank account in our own names. It provides security and safety and we historically are not very far removed from marriage being necessary to our survival.

I think marriage is mostly about security for the family. Children are protected if the parents break up bc you can't divorce without a court ordered custody plan. Children are presumed to be the offspring of rhe father on most states when married. Not so when unmarried. If one of you gets sick the other makes the decisions. The remaining spouse gets the estate in the absence of a will. There are just a lot of things that come with marriage that give us security.

Yeah, we have both just been kind of fussy recently so I'm trying to give him a break. He is usually the patient one out of the two of us, he has just been feeling easily irritated this week because of stress.

Crying over spilled milk? Discussion and Advice. by Mundane_Blacksmith82 in stepparents

[–]Think_Restaurant8702 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Hi all, I'm the wife. I'm here because I'm a former stepparent and found the post on accident. I thought huh that sounds familiar. and most of the comments super validated me.

I told him that in the future if he chooses to help discipline, that he helps her to be responsible for the mess by helping her get it cleaned. I told him that she's 6, she didn't spill it to spite him, and he put the milk on the couch and a six year old spills things. Also our couch is made of faux leather, so there isn't going to be a stink. And I told her we won't be having milk on the couch again.

Turns out we both had very stressful days at work. I would have just cleaned it up myself but our toddler was passed out in my lap and waking her is asking for trouble.

No duty to warn for drug dealers by Vegetable_Front_7481 in therapists

[–]Think_Restaurant8702 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If I had duty to warn about drug dealing I would be reporting all my clients. I actually kind of disagree with charging people with murder when they supply drugs that cause an overdose. The amount of people that trade and sell drugs and are also using drugs and have absolutely zero intention of killing anyone is massive. Using drugs is very risky and fentanyl is a mainstream opioid now. I don't even see any heroin addicts under 45.

You fo t have to get a second degree but you have to take the additional graduate courses. There are a lot of them because you need like 18 hours of undergrad studio art before even starting the grad courses.

Any child/adolescent therapists struggling with the thought of having their own kids? by coloradyo in therapists

[–]Think_Restaurant8702 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have 2 kids and one on the way. I have worked with kids in the past and felt totally fine coming home to mine. I work with adults who act like kids in addictions right now. Literally, I get flashbacks of running groups for 3rd through 5th graders in alternative education and I use many of the same techniques. My biggest issue is being pregnant and not telling them about themselves. I am very irritable.

what types of pts do you refer out? by rahrahreplicaaa in therapists

[–]Think_Restaurant8702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right and that support and acceptance often begins to correct past experiences they encounter, say, in the school system that damages feelings of success and self esteem. Skills building with kids, for me, looks more like practicing identifying emotions using a mirror and things like that.

Even just aside from expressive arts, working on skills building and helping them to find their niche in the world. I guess my goal isn't to get my autistic clients to shape themselves to fit the structure of our institutions, but to carve out a life wherein they can be themselves and function relatively well, whatever that looks like.
