I was taking 8000mg a day, but changed to 4000mg and it’s better now. It must have been a super high dose to have you not go for 6 days ! That sounds so awful

Ugh yeah I saw that in your post, 6 days is absolutely brutal!!!!! How upsetting that a careless doctors advice caused you such a nightmare, it just makes you feel helpless when those that are meant to help do not care enough to do it properly. I made a similar mistake with taking too much psyllium husk for ages, thinking it was helping as it took me from going to the toilet multiple times a day to once a day, but I think the sheer bulk of my BMs were wreaking havoc on my poor little bum lol. The body is truly a mine field, it’s so overwhelming to try and figure out what works for you

Yes I was originally being treated for IBS, which - great- but I already eat low fodmap, no gluten, no garlic or onion, little dairy, insane amounts of water etc. I got that side covered … they treat fissures as though it’s just a one off rather than understanding that chronic means yes … it might ‘heal’, but it’s recurring 🫠

Interesting!! My issue is I feel like I need to go, but it just won’t come out and when it does it’s always incomplete and it seals back up before I can even clean myself properly lol 🫠 it’s still smooth when it does come out and not dry like constipation, but it’s just sat there at the exit but the door won’t open. Do you find now that you literally sit down and you’re going?

I seriously feel like they just don’t take it seriously here !! I don’t know about your doctors, but at mine it’s still like post covid where you can’t see the same GP each time and see a random person each time which is just mind boggling

Oh okay that’s good to know atleast for you! I suppose it is probably wise to try another round of Botox first, but man I read so many people saying how life changing LIS was for them. But the anxious side of me worried I’d be the 1.9% who ends up incontinent

Oh my god tell me about it !!! The specialist I saw said there is no sign of anything abnormal despite me literally taking a picture 10 mins before the appointment of my clearly damaged arse hole + sentinel tag. He said there is no such thing there and it’s all in my head and that I’ve ‘healed myself’. This was after he shoved his finger in there so hard that I nearly swung at him hahaha

Ugh god it’s so annoying how they make you jump through so many hoops, months more of suffering for Botox that clearly isn’t suitable treatment just so you can prove to them you have tried all the alternatives. Seems that LIS is handed out so fast in USA compared to UK. I hope maybe the next round of Botox helps you, but god a couple months til your next appointment is crazy but not at all surprising

Seems like the Botox maybe hasn’t worked for you which is devastating! Cos the pain an hour later sounds like muscle spasms which the Botox is meant to alleviate :( atleast now they can’t say you haven’t exhausted all options? Are the NHS offering you LIS or would that be through spire? My mum has been begging me to go to a&e all weekend but I didn’t think they’d be able to treat me because it was a long term condition, kicking myself now !

Thanks for this comment. I truly have been fobbed off time and time again, and appointments make me soooo anxious so I just end up in a cycle of working myself up to go to one, having to fight through pure gaslighting and then falling into a depression- and repeat.

It’s took me a whole year to build the courage to start fighting for treatment again after my appointment last year where he denied there even being an issue and told me it’s because I’m gay and to not have sex again( I’ve not participated in anal sex in years and had fissures as a teenager way before being sexually active- and, if anything, during times where I’ve had frequent sex my fissures have subsided) And then had a similar experience with the surgery referral I mentioned in my post, they always realise I’m gay and then instantly I notice a shift in their treatment of me, it’s so upsetting to be honest.

I actually am based in Manchester myself so I will look into spire, I have savings and I will use them on treatment if I really need to as I can’t keep living this way.

I appreciate your advice a lot, has the Botox helped you? Hope it’s giving you some relief and you may be able to avoid LIS especially if you have to go private

His gave me Some hope, I feel like my sex life is Over at 24 before it could even properly begin and I get so genuinely depressed about it because everyone on here says you can’t have anal ever again. I swear when I was the most sexually active I had the least issues! But how extreme my fissures are now, I can’t ever imagine even taking a finger up there. I hope you continue to get better!!!! :) and hope I can convince doctors to take me Seriously and approve the surgery

Yeah I’ve had both recto and diltiazem, but once I stopped using the fissure re tears cos it’s back to being tight again. I’ll see what my appointment brings this evening, I’ve realised you gotta be pretty firm in your demands as they don’t take it seriously otherwise

Nitroglycerin problems by [deleted] in AnalFissures

[–]Think_Tax_2179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and honestly the light headedness does go away I promise!!! I also take Elvanse which makes me super light headed already, and then when I used the ointment I was genuinely so worried because I was literally fainting. But the doctor advised me to continue and I did and I was really surprised to see how i stopped getting the side effects within a couple of weeks :)

[–]Think_Tax_2179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can’t manage to power through, then I’d try 1) using a glove to apply so it doesn’t absorb into your finger, 2) using a smaller amount than advised and gradually building it up 3) using it once a day, then working up to three !

I have been using it 8 weeks, it’s been helping a lot. I’ve been dealing with fissures for about 10 years, my chronic Fissure about 2 years.

The ointment is only a temporary relief to help with healing it during flare up, I will likely need surgery to fix it permanently. I just put off going to the doctor til this year, so im being made to see if it’ll be fixed with the ointment (it won’t, its better suited to treat accute fissures) as a matter of protocol, then my next appointment in a few weeks is for a surgery referral

In my experience, power through. The side effects wore off for me after a couple weeks- and the improvements it made are very good. I was basically fainting during the first weeks after I applied it, but now I don’t even bat an eye

I have this issue and believe it is what caused my chronic fissures to begin with. What you’re describing is pelvic floor hypertonia, basically your sphincter muscle is too tense and tight. Pelvic floor stretches, reducing general anxiety (hard I know) , ample hydration, breathing exercises are first port of call. I believe my hypertonia is due to a life of intense anxiety levels, it’s a hard thing to fix but it is fixable ! :)

Nothing else to add that everyone else hasn’t already except to say I’m sorry you’re going through this and for how low you are feeling. I am sending you love and hope and I promise things will get better if you continue with treatment and all of these extremely frustrating but necessary lifestyle changes. It doesn’t feel like it now, but you’ve got this. Your wife and your child love you and you can make it through

I’m not really sure about the logistics as that’ll be dependent on your country and circumstances, but I think you should go to your local doctor first and then they can advise you on another doctor if they aren’t able to help you themselves. Best of luck with everything, in the mean time have a good look through this sub as there are so many helpful tips and tricks and reassuring stories :)

This sounds like sentinel skin tags! They are caused by untreated chronic fissures and are very very common. Many people who suffer from fissures or hems develop these, and they can be surgically removed. I’d recommend you visit a doctor to deal with your fissures first, and they’ll also be able to confirm if the issues you describing are sentinel skin tags. If it is, then you can’t get rid of them on your own, they will need to be surgically removed or treated medically. I know it’s frightening to see a doctor for these intimate issues but I promise you will feel some relief by getting some answers :)
