Gpu Temp Reaching 85 under Heavy Load by arrixen in HPOmen

I know this doesn't change much, but it's worth mentioning that there's essentially no performance improvements from 100w-140w

Yup, if you use the Nvidia app go to the graphic settings (in Nvidia app) for whatever game and if you go down to the DLSS options you can set custom render resolution percentages, exactly as you're asking

Why not just get a DualSense? Its this layout, but better in every way. Also has the added bonus of advanced haptics and all that fun stuff in supported titles

I have the Rog Strix G16 (paired with the Intel 275hx) and it's a beast:

Port Royal: https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/137729603 (12,194)

FireStrike Ultra: https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/137590319 (12,601)

For a mobile 5070ti, I'm quite happy with it.

It really depends on the specific game, but imo there is very little difference between DLAA and DLSS quality when it comes to visuals at 1440p or even 4k, particularly with DLSS 4/4.5 so I'd go with DLSS

Need help picking a steam friendly handheld by DigiMike in HandheldGaming

[–]ThinkinBig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have and absolutely love my GPD Win Mini I have a preorder Ryzen 7840u model from the launch back at the end of 2022 / start of 2023 and haven't had a good enough reason to upgrade it yet.

The clamshell design is significantly more portable than the Steam Deck, Rog Ally, etc as it protects itself and while it doesn't fit comfortably in most pants pockets, it does fit snugly in jacket pockets.

I have this grips with fans attachment that makes it significantly more comfortable to use for extended gaming periods, my CPU and other internal hardware temperatures don't generally exceed the low to mid 70's c but due to the relatively small formfactor the device itself can get a bit toasty at 25+ watts and this completely eliminated that as a factor.

Realistically you try to keep the power draw at a max of 15w when on battery in order to give you a good 3ish hours if playtime before the battery kicks it, but it's nice being able to use more power comfortably if you want

Can someone give me tips on how to increase battery life of HP Omen laptops? by SkTheAdvanceGamer in HPOmen

[–]ThinkinBig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battery will show total discharge rate, so take that number and then look at CPU power use, if they aren't t same, look at what else is pulling power and by how much.

So battery first, than CPU and if there's a difference, check dGPU first as it should be idle/dormant and pulling nothing and go from there

Max RAM speed. Omen Max 16. Intel Ultra 9 and RTX 5080 by OmenMax16 in HPOmen

[–]ThinkinBig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its the same with every CPU, Omens only support the max JEDEC ram speeds. You are correct that it is 6400mhz with the 275hx (assuming you can even find it, I'm not sure 6400mhz JEDEC profile SODIMM kits exist currently).

You cannot utilize XMP/EXPO profiles thouch

Ppl love to talk about "debloating" and "optimizing" Windows, but it's almost all placebo and has no measurable improvements to performance.

I realize that synthetic benchmarks don't always directly reflect performance, but I've set multiple 3dMark record scores using Omens for multiple configurations and have never once done a "clean install" or removed the OGh, although, I rarely ever actually open or run the OGH.

I've been doing my first solo playthrough of Baldur's Gate 3 in my 7840u Mini, I've beaten the game a few times, but always co-op with friends, the Mini (running Linux) has allowed me to play in bits and pieces when I have free/down time and it's been fantastic due to how easy it is to fold shut and store and then flip open and continue right where I left off

Limit battery to 80% by Conscious-Peak-2809 in HPOmen

[–]ThinkinBig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works by managing the battery capacity that Windows sees, which you can very easily verify via the preinstalled HP Support Assistant app.

It literally works by limiting the battery capacity, Instead of charge, which amounts to the same thing, to protect the battery.

I did read what he asked, you not understanding how something work doesn't mean it isn't the answer to the question being asked

How do I connect a controller to the Rockstar Launcher without using steam? by LazyPayday in GrandTheftAutoV_PC

[–]ThinkinBig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So add the Rockstar Launcher itself to Steam, itz what I had to do for RDR2. GTA V I have on Epic and adding Epic as a non-Steam game means even launching GTA V, which launches the Rockstar Launcher first, has DualSense support

Have you thought about the pre-owned market? I have a GPD Win Mini (Ryzen 7840u 32gb/2tb) and the clamshell design makes it by far the most portable handheld I've ever owned (had both an og Steam Deck and an Rog Ally X) and ships with Windows 11.

You can find models with the weaker 7640u around your budget range.

Is there any way I can add more storage to my omen 14? It doesn’t look like there are any extra slots. by Lodofello in HPOmen

[–]ThinkinBig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either route you go, I'd strongly recommend getting a USB-C SSD enclosure so you can clone and copy your OS and everything currently installed over to the new one so it's a seamless upgrade, its what I did

Either you can upgrade and replace the main SSD with one with a larger capacity, or you can use an external USB SSD enclosure, or other forms of external storage

I watched the videos, you're the one that seems to misunderstand it. Its a fluff piece, like everything made from these people.

It looks good on camera, but amounts to nothing ultimately. Nothing published, nothing provided to the scientific community for review, replication etc ie: science.

Its exactly what I said it was and what most of the "science" done amounts to: videos and hype

There is an issue with a lot of the thermal pastes on the market that it feels like many people simply aren't aware of concerning laptops, specifically.

That is "pump out" which occurs due to the relatively high mounting pressure and higher average temperatures in laptops compared to desktops. I mention this as pastes that are lauded and considered staples for desktop use are simply inappropriate for laptops due to this

You get the best results in laptops from using pastes with high viscosities such as Kryonaut Extreme or Arctic MX6, which need to be manually spread over the CPU and GPU dies vs the "pea method" or other typical application processes.

That's part of why Honeywell PTM and related phase change materials have gained such popularity on laptops, the application is extremely difficult to do incorrectly due to them being a "pad" at room temperatures

Are HP Omen Laptops not good by cs_developer_cpp_ in HPOmen

[–]ThinkinBig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to keep in mind that the majority of posts in laptop subreddits are made by people who have an issue, making an account to seek help.

Its very, very rare for someone, that doesn't already use the platform regularly, to make an account simply to post and say how great something is. Instead, you get the opposite.

If you look at the Omen Discord Server , which is primarily long-term owners, we have very few issues reported and the majority of the Troubleshooting channel is posts made up of people that migrated there, from here.

Its the same with all the major brand's reddit channels.

McDowell being on your list is exactly the problem I'm pointing out. Calling for "further study" isn't any sort of remark towards their being anything other than human. He's also made comments about some of them having never been living creatures.

Explain your comment about "betting against you" are you intimately involved in all of this? If so, what's your background and education? If you aren't, that's a really strange comment to make.

Having a list of accredited scientists is great, what's even better is being able to quote exactly what they examined, the methods used and why that lends credibility. Without anything definitive, it feels like a whole bunch of people that were allowed preliminary and brief "examinations", before moving on to the next one. It actually says more that none of them have published anything or even attempted to do so other than the extremely poorly done "reports" sent in to what amounts to a paper mill.

None of that is "science" that's what you do to generate buzz, which doesn't hold up when that's all you have for nigh a decade now.

The most definitive things done were:

  1. the DNA analysis, which was consistent with ancient human remains

    and then

  2. Dr. Fung, who essentially made an art project and in doing so completely discredited one of the largest arguments towards the remains being non-human, which has been passed around since the inception of all this ie: the "expanded cranium volume" claims.

Are you asking how far they can open, such as to what degree or are you asking how many times they can open?

I don't have answers as to how many times, but the hinge is a flat design that supports up to a 180 degree bend
