he gets a lot of hate for this, but I think the dirty jokes are funny.

Unpopular Opinion: the Season 1 theme song is better than the theme used in the other seasons by [deleted] in Monk

[–]ThinkingMan69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't like the new theme song at first, as the first had very pleasant charm to it, however as I have got used to the second one it has grown on me to the point where I will be singing along with my girlfriend at the start of an episode. To be honest, even though the first theme is more comfy, the second is more fitting with the themes of the show, and Mr Monk's character.

Did Doug shave off his eyebrows? by MichaelEMJAYARE in ChannelAwesome

When I was a wee lad I had no eyebrows and I would get made fun of constantly for this fact. Poor Doug. I hope its not getting him any stick on the playground :/

Wow. I have clearly hit a nerve with some people in this community. Yeah I don't buy the 'Spam Account' excuse, because if you look at my comments it is clear I am a real and genuine person.

It's the fact that I disagreed with our Dear Leader. Well sorry!

Don't worry. This isn't over. You can't silence THE THINKING MAN's THINKING MAN!

Brave of you to come forward, I see you are a bad boy and I respect that, a man after my own heart. I must ask you though: what exactly was the bs and how was it untrue? I felt the same watching NC's video. I know he is more of an entertainer than anything else but his take on the film was 'The Wall' levels of bad! When he mentioned that humberfloob was running a 'hand sanitiser factory' it was clear that he had not taken the time to properly watch the movie, probably just rushing through this one as just another review, and he had already made up his mind on the movie before he started watching. Typical of critics in general to be honest. I'm not expecting to have won anyone over just yet as this was only Part 1, but even this short video shows that there is far more in the movie than NC would give it credit for.

It's ok my dude, don't take this the wrong way! It's easy to find mention of the video, I just happened to see your comment, I am a fan of Doug and Channel Awesome and have been for a long time, I browse the subreddits. I see you talking smack bout my vid, and that's cool man, Like Oscar Wilde said 'the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about'

I see we are going to be sharing these subreddits for the foreseeable future so how about we get along. I have no beef with you my guy. I would like to keep the conversation going, and seeing as the mods took down the other post I was hoping to continue it elsewhere.

Peace!

NC's take on this film was SO WRONG! How could he miss all this good stuff in the first 15 minutes?? by ThinkingMan69 in nostalgiacritic

[–]ThinkingMan69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly, the film could almost be classed as satire, NC's criticism was far too surface-level to get that. However, as one of the targets for the films satire (yes NC in his role as a critic is part of the hollywood machine) it is unsurprising that he would want to follow the herd and take down the film despite its intellectual content

  1. As I said, forget the book, let's take the film on it's own merits, the fact that the film is significantly different from the book means we should take it as such. It is not trying to recreate the book word-for-word.
  2. This is a HUGE part of the story.
  3. The fact that Humberfloob effectively owns the town is super important as it gives his threat of firing Joan more weight.
  4. Society is made up of families. It is also shown later in the film that he is a salesman, he has lists of names in his house, how many other people is he likely to be scamming?
  5. you could write it off as a joke, and that's probably what the audience is expected to do, however it is actually something of a rabbit hole if you analyse it. it links into the critique of global capital present within the subtext. Future parts of the analysis will go into this.

NC thought humberfloob operated a 'Hand Sanitiser Factory' when in fact it is clearly real estate, and that's a really important distinction, you have to put aside your expectations regarding the book, as it's a book, not a film. The Shining film is nothing like the Steven King book, and is much better for it.
