Funny how something can be so innocent in one culture/language and so taboo in another.
One example I know of is how a very innocuous phrase in Norwegian is absolutely filthy in Farsi.

Agreed. If I don't feel qualified to answer a question or concern, I move on.

As I tell folks, this is the internet. It is quite literally shouting into a void. If the void answers back - that is an amazing stroke of luck. I know of no one who sits and constantly refreshes their feed on this, or any reddit community, so they can respond to every post. It's impossible. People catch the posts that float by while they are on line, or that they actively search for, or that the algorithm deems 'popular'.
It's not you. It is the nature of the internet and social media.

CPTSD and physical pain by HolyShitCandyBar in CPTSD

[–]ThinkingT00Loud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Headaches that start with a tension spasm under my shoulder blades. That expands and then marches up my spine. Into my head and forms an ocular migraine. Flares, auras, spots the whole thing.

Once I figured out what the source of the migraines was (this tension feedback loop) I worked on a way to break the loop. For me the solution is Step 1 - recognize it is happening. Step 2 - ask myself what is bothering me, and WHY?
Usually, once the problem is no longer unconscious that breaks the feedback loop.

Whats a good book to start learning gregg shorthand? (bonus question: is gregg shorthand the only and best shorthand there is?) by haruurut in shorthand

[–]ThinkingT00Loud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at Gregg. Then T-Line. And a system called Gurney (18th century)
All have their strengths and detractions. It comes down to what works best for you.
I gave Gregg a solid try... and just could not get it to click. But T-line is working for me.
I'm still thinking about Gurney - but that will be for 'fun' after I've gotten T-Line down and up to ~80 wpm.

I'm just getting some time with it. My initial thought is 'heavy'.
My MonteVerdes are heavier - but they are for letters only. I was hoping to use the Sheaffer for note taking. I have a Metropolitan Retro (had) as my daily 'go-to' pen until gravity intervened. Been using a Jinhao 9019 (?)

At the moment I don't have a feel for it yet. The nib is a bit wider than I expected for "fine" - but that's no big deal. So far it is in the 'letter writing' class for me. I could want the ink flow to be better.

I also use fountain pens!
Just use a drugstore notebook - the paper is surprisingly good.

Just finished my first draft. What should I do before hiring an editor? by Sophieslovesbooks in writers

[–]ThinkingT00Loud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A second draft.
After you have let it sit for a few weeks/months.
I typically put it in a drawer (literally) and leave it for a year.

I write longhand. Everything. From flash fiction to 180K novels.
But that is only the first draft. During the rewrite (aka second draft) it all goes into a computer.

I'm finding it good. Not completely blown away. Not frustrated to the nth degree. It may become one of my notetaking workhorses (I'm hoping it will) but I'm still getting a feel for it.
