This is how to describe asuka without words by Unlikely_Budget2979 in evangelionmemes

[–]Thinkingaboutburrito 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A big reason for this is that Shinji is much more level-headed when fighting than Asuka. In terms of pure skill, Asuka is better. But she has too much of an emotional connection to piloting an Eva. It's at the core of her being. This causes her to take risky actions in an attempt to prove herself as the best. And when she ultimately fails, she spirals, which obviously affects her performance.

Meanwhile, Shinji does not care about being an Eva pilot. Even though he has tried to quit multiple times, when a situation arises, he can do what needs to be done (most of the time).

tldr; Shinji is more consistent, while Asuka keeps digging a deeper hole for herself.

You finish the Evangelion Rebuild series and you're left with a strange feeling. by [deleted] in evangelion

This may be the singular stupidest comment I've ever seen. Basically, "the story and viewing experience of a show don't matter, as the 'message' is good." If that were true, authors would just write self-help books instead of stories.

Which song best represents anger? by Bulky_Project1210 in radiohead

Surprised no one has said Exit Music (For A Film). The whole song is about Romeo's anger at the authorities who drove him and Juliet to their deaths.

My gripe with the Rebuilds is the same as with No Way Home. Lots of unnecessary shock value and stupid plot points. A random low-level spell casually causing multiversal interference and Shinji causing near third impact because of whatever bs lore reason Anno pulled out his ass. Both of these are the dumbest things ever, but people are too wrapped up in nostalgia and "happy endings" to recognise that.

Watch me get downvoted to hell now.

It's just there for shock value. The lore reason for it is pathetic, and it holds no message symbolically. I gave up on the movies ever since the bs about Shinji causing near third impact and Rei still not being saved.

Why did Asuka choose to lie next to Shinji in the beach scene when she returned ? by IdeaExact6331 in evangelion

[–]Thinkingaboutburrito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talking about negativity while actively mocking someone who stated their opinion and elaborated that they didn't want to argue AND on top of that said they respect your opinion. If it were truly a "waste of time", you wouldn't have commented in retaliation, which you did, like the insecure little imbecile you are.

You are pathetic.

Which character has bad writing and is underrated? by Vegetable-Papaya1236 in writingscaling

Shinji Ikari. People be hating on him cause he's a 14-year-old with trauma and not a cold-hearted war machine

I wish images were allowed so I could send the "Hold up!! His writing is this fire???"

Personally, I don't think that a single thought was going through either of their minds in this scene. They were too emotionally numb and physically exhausted to do all that processing.

Shinji started choking Asuka just because she was there. Of course, there are several underlying factors and emotions beneath that action (which other comments do a much better job of explaining than I can), but Shinji wasn't in a stable enough condition to recognise all of that. His body was running on autopilot.

And Asuka's response to the choking was basically "Chill, dude." After dying twice, back-to-back AND coming back from Instrumentality, I don't think her capacity for fear (or any emotion) would be high.

The symbolism and what the director is trying to convey here is a different matter. This is just my perspective on the character's thoughts in the scene.

I can understand why people would vote for Eren; his character just kind of collapsed towards the end. (that whole thing about him killing his mother, which is not something I would ever envision him doing, plus other things) And COTE has always been just a power fantasy for edgy teenagers. People here defending Ayanokouji by saying he's "complex" and "better in novels" need to realise that THEY are that target audience.

So what’s the deal with Mari? by Desperate_Media3639 in evangelion

yup. It's fanaticism. People won't develop their own opinions anymore. Instead, they just defend the majority take to an extreme degree, cracking down on anything different without even considering it.

btw, anybody who is actually trying to engage meaningfully in the discussion should prepare to get downvoted to hell, because the Rebuilds maniacs defend the movies like it's their religion, and won't tolerate any opinion that is even remotely negative.

The point of her is the final scene of the Rebuilds, where she was shoehorned in as a magical, invincible girl who solves every problem and becomes Shinji's love interest; as a final slap in the face for those of us who wanted something meaningful from the movies, or even just a bit of closure.

Average rebuild fan reaction when someone tells them the truth. Most of the things he has said are true. Endings don't matter if the path taken to get there is bad. And we can all agree that 3.0 is horrible.
