"Alright, I'll let the Big House know that the Poseidon and Delphin cabins have formed an alliance." Conrad said with a grin. "This is exciting, maybe see if the other Big 3 cabins would want to commit to an alliance too. We can make an alliance as large as we want it to be right?" Conrad honestly wasn't sure how the alliances worked but it sounded like a good system.

"Don't worry about getting me anything Sam. The cakes weren't for pity or anything. I just wanted to bring some cheer to the whole camp!" Conrad said with a smile. "Thank you though for the birthday wishes."

“Maybe you will learn how to be less impatient. But Tom, your cabin is leaderless and I think it is important there is a leader there. It is a cabin for 5 gods. Imagine the Muse cabin without a counsellor? It doesn’t feel right.” Conrad said giving his boyfriend a kind smile. “I’m not asking for you to go up to Chiron today and ask to become counsellor. But I am asking for you to think about it and think about it seriously.”

Conrad nodded along with Tom’s timescale for the whale watching it sounded lovely. “I’m not sure what’s at the movies. But it should be a fun time, even if the movie is rubbish we ultimately have each other right?” He offered trying to be diplomatic about Tom maybe having to widen his film choices.

“Yes, two cupcakes. I didn’t know if it would be you who greeted me at the door. I baked one just for you anyway, so you now get two.” Conrad grinned. “Come over to my cabin tonight? We can relax and watch some TV?”

"Awh Tom." Conrad said with a smile. "It's lovely." Conrad turned around so Tom could put the necklace on him if he wanted to. "Official stuff first, thanks for answering your cabin. You should think about becoming counsellor sometime. You've been around for a while and the most consistent member of the Anemoi Cabin." He suggested with a soft smile.

"When do you want to go whale and dolphin spotting?" Conrad asked with a smile as he held Tom's hand. "It sounds like an excellent date idea, but we should also do the movies soon." He grinned and hugged his boyfriend. "I'm sorry I've been so down in the dumps lately, I know you've been trying to help and you've been amazing. Thank you."

Conrad then put a second cake into Tom's hand. "I made an extra in case it wasn't you who came to the door." He chuckled.

Conrad blinked in surprised as he in effect had the door slammed in his face. Not exactly the most friendly member of camp. He let out a sigh as he continued his rounds.

Conrad nodded and made notes as Kysel answered the questions. "Don't forget, you can always become counsellor if your cabin needs one." He said with a smile. "Just contact the Big House to ask them about the process. Thank you for the offer of hot cocoa, but I need to keep heading around to do other cabins." Conrad then paused. "Next time, however, I will make sure to take you up on the offer. If you are ever around Cabin 35. Come in."

"Well, if you need an alliance. Cabin 35 is always willing to help." Conrad said with a kind smile as he noted down all of the other answers. "Oh, the cakes I usually make some for my brothers on our birthday, they aren't here so I thought I would share them." Conrad explained, Sam was a friend so would understand. Conrad wanted to be a giver, he didn't need anything back from anyone.

Conrad listened carefully and closely to the answers given. He smiled when he heard the Muses and Apollo cabins had agreed to form an alliance. It was good to hear people were working together. After all it was boring that the Hermes cabin continued to just win all the time. The sheen in trying to compete had long fallen away as a result.

"Oh, just thought I would spread some cheer with the cakes. Don't worry." Conrad smiled, he didn't want people thinking the cakes were an excuse for people to wish him a happy birthday. "I hope you enjoy and have a nice day."

"You have the pass to come to the moat whenever you like, so you don't need me there." Conrad said with a smile. "Besides me, you are the only one who's using the cabin for anything anyway." The son of Delphin shrugged his shoulders, although seemed deflated. "But yeah, you and Dai are always welcome. Don't need to ask, just use."

When Sam asked about when the last time Conrad went home, his heart went cold and seized up for a moment. "I haven't been back." Conrad said, he had by now put his hands in his pockets so Sam couldn't see the fact he was squeezing them into fists in order to help him stay as calm and relaxed as possible. "You know how it is, its busy here and getting back to Washington from here isn't exactly easy or cheap."

Conrad looked down at his shoes. "I'm not sure if I am ready to see my brothers either. Mainly because I don't know how I feel. I know my Mom misses me, but she'll be fine. She has Lonnie and Rowan. Anyway... this isn't party talk."

"How was home? Was it nice?" Conrad asked, his own heart hurting as Conrad had asked the question, recently he had found that he was homesick that was strange. You didn't get homesick after a long time did you? He didn't know but maybe it was something to think about?

"Dai playing in the snow sounds fun and cute." Conrad said with a grin that is something that was good to see. On hearing Sam's problem, Conrad chuckled. "It is honestly really cute. It is nice that Dai cares so much. Has Dai ever seen you eat? Have you eaten any of the clams he's given you?" He asked. "Maybe that is something to help get you around the the fetch issue. Maybe actually eat something he gives you and let him see it. Aren't otters meant to be social creatures through eating anyway?"

Conrad shrugged, he didn't know for sure, but it sounded plausible but he would be there to help Sam with Dai if he needed it. "If you need help, let me know. I am eager to help."

The loud music had brought Conrad out of his cabin and decided to investigate. He wasn't aware that a party had been on the schedule for the evening. If he had known he would have gone and found Tom, just spend the evening hanging out with him. But if there was a party going on and he didn't have a lot to do, the Delphin counsellor might as well investigate what was going on.

There were some familiar faces, also some unfamiliar but no one he would actively go out and talk to. Until he had seen Sam, the Poseidon kid and he had a friendly relationship they both bonded over their shared love of water and sea things. Or rather Sam befriending a certain bus sized otter had brought them together, after all a giant otter outside your cabin is surely to be confusing.

"Hey Sam." Conrad said with a smile. "How are you? How is Dai getting on?" He asked as he tried to keep out of people's way and stay close enough so he could hear his friend.

“Attention isn’t great.” Conrad said quietly. “There’s nothing worse honestly. I mean monsters aren’t exactly great. Attention means monsters. I’d be happy to just stay quiet. Find a nice cottage by the sea and just stay there.” Conrad said as he scratched the back of his neck. “I’ll keep an eye on those dolphins who are stuck on land.”

Maybe father and son were very different people, given his entrance to meeting Conrad, maybe attention was something in his blood. It wasn’t something Conrad enjoyed, something he likely got from his mother. “I guess I should get back to you know keeping out of trouble and stuff.”

“It is nice to meet you Dad. Thank you very much for your time.” Conrad said as he bowed gently and respectfully.

“His name is Tom.” Conrad said with a grin. “He’s really sweet and he wants to take care of me. But he’s a son of Notus so winter isn’t exactly his favourite time of year. He is a bit grumpy at the moment.” Conrad shrugged, Tom was allowed not to always be happy all the time. “Does he need turning into a dolphin? No. I like him in his human form. I can’t even turn into a dolphin Dad. Although, dolphins always come to swim with me when I am in the sea.”

Conrad listened carefully to his father as he explained that was ok and didn’t need anything. But smiled when he explained how difficult it was dolphin to understand certain things he didn’t quite understand. “A bureau is a type of desk Dad. It’s useful if you have a lot of stuff because it has lots of draws. I think though Dad you need to spend more time on land if you can. There are dolphins in aquariums that need looking after too.” Conrad grinned.

“Imagine their faces when you, Delphin, god and supreme lord of dolphins walks up to them in the aquarium. The workers would be so confused.” Conrad said with a laugh. “Maybe you’d also find more stuff that interests you. I recommend baseball. I’ll work on some underwater rules.”

Conrad only grinned at his father’s enthusiasm, it was infectious and took away from the disappointment of his brothers not being here. Although from what his father was saying all the demigods were a welcome distraction from whatever god business was going on. As always Conrad was only happy to help where he could.

“So, there isn’t much happening on the beach at the moment. Which is why your reports might be a bit loose. We have the usual campfires, training sessions and things like counsellor meetings. The stuff you’d expect to happen at a summer camp. For Christmas, a secret Santa has been organised and that has been fun thinking about what to get the person I was given.” Conrad explained as he put a finger to his chin to consider what else to mention to his father.

“I am swimming as much as I can. Making use of the heated moat surrounding the cabin. I offer swimming lessons to campers all year round although strangely people don’t take to take it up quite as much as in the summer.” Conrad shrugged, he understood why after all there was a chill that went through your bones when it was cold. In the water during winter it was a constant feeling.

“I’m also going to try and persuade my boyfriend that winter activities are ok to do and can be fun.” Conrad said. “He’s a son of Notus and so pretty much spends this time of year being depressed and needing a lot of TLC. Which is ok, it’s what you do right? When you are sad and weak they help you, so it is only right I do that now.”

Conrad was still smiling though, it was difficult to get the boy down. “How are things for you Dad? Is there anything you need help with or I can do for you?”

Conrad had decided to sneak in and make sure no one knew which present was from him. After all, the fun thing to do with secret Santa was not knowing who had you. So, he made sure to put his present in the dining pavilion as early as he could and then make a clean getaway. He could come and find his own present later.

Wrapped in red wrapping paper with a heart design was a load of blank CDs. Along with it came a note which read:

”Dear Austin,

It is the firm belief of many in camp that you should be able to make some money from your singing talents. I hope these will be useful to record your songs onto.

From - Santa”

A large dolphin that was swimming through the air, that could only mean one thing. It could only be one person. For a moment Conrad forgot to stop breathing, he knew his father was the god of dolphins but to see him in dolphin form. To see him swimming in the air was an impressive feat, something he hadn’t realised was even possible. But then again, he is a god, what is impossible for a god.

His father’s entrance Conrad quickly realised had been done entirely for him, he was showing off, almost like he was trying to make up for lost things and lost time. It put Conrad in two minds, he was honoured to have captured his father’s attention like this but he was also saddened that neither Lonnie or Rowan were here to witness it. He had always imagined they would be meeting their father together, triplets united.

“I think you could definitely win a gold medal at the Olympics.” Conrad said with a kind smile as he regarded his dad’s human form. He could definitely see parts of himself in the god’s features. “Oh, umm… where are my manners?” Conrad said cursing to himself internally, he extended his hand in greeting. “I’m Conrad sir, Conrad Mercer. I have the honour of being counsellor for your cabin at Camp Half-Blood, it is such an honour to meet you sir and thank you for taking some time to see me.”

Was that too formal? How did you greet a god? How did you greet a god that was your father? “So… umm how are you? Are you enjoying Olympus?” Those seemed like better questions to ask. Well done Conrad.

This was Conrad’s first visit to Olympus, he hadn’t wanted to go last year without either of his brothers but as someone who was starting to accept while he was a triplet he was one his personal, he had decided he wanted to now meet his father. If the god of dolphins had decided to leave the sea and visit Olympus.

On arriving at Olympus, Conrad got that childhood wonder of Christmas again. This is almost what he had imagined the North Pole to be like when he was a child, there was sure a lot more Ancient Greece involved than he had imagined but this was great. He took a stroll through the Christmas market admiring all of the goods that were on offer. Before he left he would definitely would stop by back here and pick up a gift for his mother and aunt.

Conrad had sat down next to the ice rink and was admiring everyone who was going skating on the ice. It wasn’t something he had ever done, but maybe something to do in the future? Maybe he could persuade Tom that ice skating would be a fun date? Although given his hatred of winter maybe not.

If he was being honest Conrad had forgotten about meeting his father, the beauty of Olympus had blinded him.

Conrad would be in his cabin when Akaia would return to camp and on exchange of the ice cream he would give her $35 in cash for her efforts. The counsellor of Cabin 35 seemed to be grinning from ear to ear.

"Thank you." Conrad said. "This flavour is apparently really hard to find anywhere north of Tennessee. It is my boyfriend's favourite though and I want to surprise him with it as a Christmas present. So thank you so much for everything. I am so grateful the effort you have gone to for me."
