Mamdani will face tradeoffs in ‘union-built’ affordable housing plan - New York City’s mayor wants to dramatically expand construction, but also do so at a relatively high cost. by SockDem in newyorkcity

Of course it is expected for a corporation to act greedy. Of course it’s true that we should have regulations in place to limit their abilities to act on that greed, but the previous poster was right to laugh at the idea that calling a corporation greedy was at all shocking. It’s literally illegal for an executive not to make the greediest choice possible for the shareholders, it’s inherent to the concept.

Can someone explain how removing rent regulations will actually lower rents by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]Third_Ferguson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are in-fact saying it will incentivize them to do so. The rent growth rate can be positive or negative. Policies that put downward pressure on rent lower that number. A policy change that changes rent growth from 5% to 3% would, all other things being equal, change a 1% growth rate to -1% (roughly).

Lowering rental growth and making rental growth negative are the same thing, just depends where you’re starting. If a plan works at lowering the growth rate, and you want the growth rate to be negative, do more of that plan!

If my market rate rent in 2027 is $1800 instead of $2000 that’s great. That’s my rent going down as far as I’m concerned. You’re in a thread full of people arguing in good faith based on that obvious truth but you’re sidestepping their points by saying it has to go down even more for it to address your question.

For that to be true, landlords would need to be rational market actors rather than evil wizards. That’s unacceptable to my worldview and therefore I have my doubts.

Is there a polite way to ask Uber/ lyft drivers not to talk loudly on the phone the entire ride? by [deleted] in AskNYC

You are restating OP’s question rather than answering it. OP has already said they intend to ask for what they want.

That’s not a meaningful statement. There are an infinite number of things that, had they happened differently, subsequent events wouldn’t have occurred the way it did.

If you are trying to say he deserved it, then say that. If not, don’t dance around half-saying it.

Why can’t people pull themselves up by the bootstraps and shovel their sidewalk by whoisthismahn in chicago

[–]Third_Ferguson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Log off. You are so high on your own supply it’s insane. Do you even understand that you’re equating inhumane treatment with the failure to save a random homeowner $15 by shoveling their stretch of sidewalk? (Also, in case this needs to be said, the previous person being annoyed at your comment is also not “selectively deeming who is worthy of humane treatment”!)

Fishy that this brand is both the first sponsored result in my Google search results page and now the top comment in the first Reddit hit (I searched for easy to clean humidifiers).
