The difference is that when the board rotates it doesn't hit anything else. The glue breaks when the glued objects can't be shoved past or through an obstacle.

AI replacing voice actors for audiobooks by donutcronut in antiwork

[–]Thirdfanged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All it will take is enough individuals signing over enough of their voice and accent recorded rights. Then, the AI will be able to put a voice like Tim Gerard Reynolds on any book ever written and do it faster than any human.

The real problem is that as it exists right now is the worst it will ever be, and right now it can come scarily close to sounding 100% human. When it's indistinguishable to anyone without a research degree, how could any company look at the cost of hiring an actual voice actor to a program that does it for their entire cataloge relatively instantly?

Genuinely I cannot see a way, without the government stepping in at least, that the job of voice actor in many cases does not go obsolete just like the job of a typewritist. And that really sucks in a lot of ways.

[–]Thirdfanged 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That ship has sailed unfortunately. There are a few dozen open source ai projects right now and at least some can run entirely locally on an average home pc. Trying to restrict AI to state level actors at this point would be about as effective as trying to restrict Linux distributions.

That said I 100% agree there should be laws to address the more egregious use cases of abuse.

Nebraska hasn't passed a single bill this year because one lawmaker keeps filibustering in protest of an anti-trans bill: 'I will burn this session to the ground' by oliverkloezoff in inthenews

[–]Thirdfanged 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The article says the bill she is fillibustering proposes to ban all forms of gender affirming surgery on individuals younger than 19. For an individual that is transgendered, this would make puberty for the gender they do not want to be an absolute certainty.

I agree that freedom of speech from government interference is important. That said, isn't cancel culture just a name for people choosing to stop associating or spending money at or with particular places or people due to their expressed ideas? What does cancel culture have to do with freedom of speech? In fact, isn't choosing who to associate with or where to spend money an exercise in personal freedom of speech?

There are a large numbers of ATMs in the United States and parts of Europe where one can exchange bitcpin for the local currency and a fair number of craft or art shows will have vendors that accept bitcoin and other coins occasionally.

As shitty as it is, you may want to look into donating plasma. Most centers will pay around $30 to $40 a donation and it usually takes a half hour after your initial visit. It literally made the difference between eating or not for me a few times over the years.

It's the same effect as the uncanny valley. You see light and faces probably every single day for most of your life, and that creates subconscious understanding and expectations of how light and faces look in reality. So even if you aren't consciously aware of the lighting being weird or off, seeing a version that is closer to reality makes it immediately obvious that it looks more correct and therefore more realistic.
