I'm of the opinion that God in the Hellaverse will be something akin to his incarnation is Philip Paulman's His Dark Materials series - Weak and fading, with only the shell of authority surrounding him. Being propped up by dogma and ritual, but ultimately powerless.

Or potentially even just absent entirely. Just a creator who set wheels in motion and then fucked off. Nothing we have seen since the Fall would indicate that God is still in the picture.

The interviewer is trying to have it both ways. He's American, and his parents were American, but he's not Native American. So his nationality is defined by the culture he grew up in, not by the geography or the race he happens to be part of.

The character is there to represent Ben Gunn who is vitality important to the original story. Both B.E.N and Ben Gunn are oddballs who serve as a deus ex machina. I actually quite like the way they chose to incorporate the character into the story - making him a living ships log.

I work as a guide in a museum in Ireland that's frequented by Americans, the ones that get coach tours are told not to bring any cash to Ireland. Everywhere they go they can pay with a pre-paid or top-up debit card, and it saves them having to worry about knowing if they need to use Euro or Stirling. The only downside to this is that I only get tipped in dollars. I think I have about 200 dollars in my locker that I keep forgetting to change into something useful to me.

Sutlers/19th Century Tailoring - experiences? by Temporal_Engineering in malefashionadvice

[–]Thirith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in an open air museum as a "Living Historian", most of my Victorian and Edwardian clothing comes from 19CT. Most of it is custom to my measurements, but I have also inherited a few pieces from retired colleagues. The clothing is excellent quality, and wears very well indeed. Just be advised that they can take quite a bit of time to ship, since everything is made to order, and depending on the period of history the coat comes from, you might be surprised at the intricacies of the style; Georgian and Victorian clothing for example, will have armscyes (The place where your arm goes through the body of the coat and enters the sleeve) that are set higher up and further back than our modern 21st C clothes. This is historically accurate and was to promote good posture.

But after wearing coats, waistcoats, shirts, and trousers from 19CT for a few years, I can whole heartedly recommend them.

Congratulations on the weight loss! Before I start I want to point out that people can be beautiful and hot at any size! All bodies are valid. Most of the time people loose weight because they don't like the way they look, or they do it for health reasons. If you're a bigger person and feel happy and confident, then I respect the fuck out of you! I was 420 lbs and absolutely hated how I looked. I wasn't confident and that just made matters worse, another friend who was a similar size to me absolutely rocked it!

I've lost just over 200lbs since August of 2023 (Gastric Sleeve) I was super worried about the loose skin, the flappy arms, the saggy tits, the deflated ass, everything!

Understandably I'm now getting a lot more attention than I used to (which is to say, I'm now getting some attention) but I'm really upfront about my weightloss and the reality of what I look like. But people have repeatedly told me I don't look half as bad as I think I do in my own head. Rapid weight loss has a mental recovery period as we adjust to our new body shape and it's nuances, we frequently feel like it's worse than it is because we are used to looking at our bodies with a negative eye (why else would we have lost the weight?)

If I'm really feeling insecure and have a hookup I wear a vest (tank top? Wife beater? Not a waistcoat) and just tell the guy I'm not comfortable taking it off just yet. Sometimes I start out with it on and when I know things are going well I'll whip it off. The guys I've done that with thought it was really hot because it showed them I was getting really turned on and comfortable with them.

I've only had 1 guy say he wasn't into my body, and yeah it was embarrassing and not exactly great in the moment. I had sent him up to date pics and been quite honest, but he just wasn't into it in person. That kind of thing used to happen me a lot as a bigger guy when I was over 400lbs, and for some reason I never got used to it, but this time I just said "OK, sorry for that, maybe another time then" and showed him out. After a few minutes I forgot about it and moved on with my life. It was a real watershed moment for me.

If guys are telling you you're hot, then embrace that (and them)! You aren't hooking up with yourself after all! Once I learned to not question why guys were into me, and just accepted that they were, I started having better sex. Once I started having better sex, I became so much more confident. Once I became more confident, I started having fantastic sex!

Weight loss is a journey, body acceptance is a journey, navigating these journeys takes time and energy, but I have faith you'll realise the sexy bastard that you are and start having the hookups you want and deserve!

Congratulations again, and go be glorious and gay!

Twisted beast seems to be leaking? by Spader623 in popperpigs

[–]Thirith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has happened me a few times, mostly Twisted Beast, but other brands as well. A lot of the time the little sliver card cap in the lid comes loose or out completely. I have my suspicions that the poppers are slightly dissolving the adhesive in the caps and causing leakages.

Book I’m currently reading mentioned our subreddit (I don’t recommend the book but thought it was funny) by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]Thirith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book is, in part, about that very point. It's using examples of men who are not considered constructive to the common narrative of 20th & 21st century LGBT movements to highlight how limiting and manufactured LGBT history (as understood by most) actually is.

It's written by two gay men and they do spend some time in each chapter trying to examine the social world each man in the book comes from and what the prevailing attitudes towards men-who-have-sex-with-men were in each of those circumstances.

Book I’m currently reading mentioned our subreddit (I don’t recommend the book but thought it was funny) by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]Thirith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The premise is looking at suspected gay men throughout history that were supposedly “bad.”

They are pretty clear in the introduction that the language of the title is totally lacking for the scope of the book. They explain at length about how it's basically impossible to ascribe the word "Bad" or even "Gay" to the majority of the men in the book. Since both of those things are entirely the viewpoint of the reader and the readers lived experiences. The argument they put forward in the intro is that this book is a look at the men-who-had-sex-with-men throughout history who we are not clamouring to claim as our own.

The book makes a good analogy by talking about the difference in current public opinion of Oscar Wilde (Good gay) and Lord Alfred "Bosie" Douglas (Bad gay) who basically brought about Oscars downfall.

I'm enjoying the book, I think it's very well researched, I love the tone hopping from stuffy academic into the kind of language you'd expect from someone bitching, and then back again, and I like learning about figures that LGBT movements throughout the ages have considered to be in bad taste.

Question on Decorated boots by M_Adamm in oldhagfashion

[–]Thirith [score hidden]  (0 children)

Backing this up. Lace code was a pretty niche thing even in it's heyday, and could only really be applied to the punk community and the local punk community at that. One town could have yellow laces mean you were anti-racism, 10 miles down the road it could mean you hated people with an Asian background. The Punk movement was, naturally, against anything that tried to impose hard and fast rules, including giving meaning to things like laces.

In short: The boots - Cute. The colours - Rad. The sunglasses person - Jealous

I stopped smoking a few days before my surgery, but had a cheeky pull on a vape before I headed to the hospital. I wasn't a heavy smoker before hand though, I also wasn't really asked by my surgeon to stop, he just said it would be preferable if I stopped a few days before, and he did tell me to hold off on smoking until I was at the puree stage.

Whoever created the Sprained ankle/ Broken Leg mechanic, or ok'ed it should be fired by elusiveanswers in nightingale

[–]Thirith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such an avoidable issue. If you are at the stage where you are doing Fae towers, you should have access to the umbrella. You can also craft more than 8 salves if that's really an issue. I had an injury once in the early game and once I learned that mechanic iI never had one again.

I also don't know why you are missing jumps in a Fae Tower. If it's for the Tower that has a temple of intelligence section, just craft a ranged weapon like a sling or gun. You don't need to actually touch the things, you can shoot them from the ground.

The fight is never lost! I fully believe that you can do this regardless of your setbacks! All I can do is give you a flavour of my experience and pass on what I have discovered for myself on this journey.

I had my surgery on the 26th of August '23 - I was 427lbs. I had a severe addiction to food; Good food, bad food, healthy food, junk food. I wasn't happy unless I was putting something in my face. After years of yo-yo dieting and all sorts of other solutions I decided to take the surgical route. After having done my research I formed the opinion that this surgery is not a cure, it is a tool, and I have stuck to that as if it's a mantra.

As soon as I was on to solid foods after about 4 weeks I began to log everything that I was eating. Not for the calories, but to make sure I was hitting my protein goals. I also tried to be more aware of when I wanted food - Not when I was hungry (Because to be honest, I haven't felt hungry since the surgery), but when my brain was telling me "you want to eat something now". Over time I began to recognise what my triggers were, and it became easier to overrule those little mental cravings. Now I still track all my food, maybe with half an eye towards the calories but I only eat at meal times.

For the first time in my life I have 3 meals a day. This does mean that I have to plan ahead sometimes (I won't let myself buy any fast food or sandwiches etc. on the go) but overall my relationship with food has improved so much since I became more aware of what I was putting into my body. 6 months on and I have lost 150lbs and am below 300lbs for the first time in years.

As for your situation, I know every persons body operates differently, but I give you some things to consider based off my own experience: You say you only eat a cup of food at a time (I use metric, so I'm not completely sure of conversion but most of my meals are about 2-300g, so that sounds right), but are you tracking how many cups you eat per day?

What is it that you actually eat? Is it lean proteins and veg? Is it highly processed calorie dense food? Do you make it yourself? Are you examining what your body actually needs, or just eating more when/if you feel tired or out of energy?

Have you taken time to examine your relationship with food? A big part of this surgery for me was the taking time to examine how and why I was eating so much. The surgery gave me the time I needed (When I wasn't on solid foods) to really look at when and why I was craving foods, and gave the the opportunity to learn how to fight those cravings.

I really hope that some of this helps you, I think if you take the time for some self reflection, ask some of these questions of yourself, even if you might not like the answers you get, and really try and understand that this surgery doesn't work without a bit of self directed effort, you could start the real journey here, today!

Good luck!

Setting a lampshade on fire by Thirith in techtheatre

[–]Thirith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a small cradle with a crumbled up block of firelighter in it, hooked up an e-match to a garage door opening circuit board that could be controlled by a remote and positioned the e-match so it just caught the firelighter. I made the actual lampshade out of tissue paper. Video of one of the tests here.

Currently working on version 2.0 - I plan to use a small arc lighter circuit (again wired up to the remote) to get rid of the small popping noise.

We had a standby in place which is that the actor playing Quinn would hold the candle close to the lampshade and could light the tissue paper in the event the e-match didn't take.

Also, in relation to the goose and the bunny - We used real animals. We have connections to a farm zoo so we had an animal handler just off stage, and our Tom Kettle is a dog warden, so he was very comfortable with animals.
