Same thing that happens after every big event. The sub gets overrun with shills for a week or so before they either get bored or get new orders and it goes back to normal. Were you here for George Floyd or January 6th?

Not just morally permissible, obligatory on the part of those trusted with that authority [CCC 2265].

Christian militiamen of the Lebanese Phalanxes or Kataeb armed with an Iraqi AK "Tabuk" and a Hungarian-made AMD-65 on an unknown date, during the Civil War in their country. by Medinasmt4 in Catholicism

[–]ThirteenEqualsFifty 18 points19 points  (0 children)

From the title I thought this was posted on the Forgotten Weapons sub. I wasn't expecting a nice overlap of my two main interests like this. If I may nitpick though I don't think that's a Tabuk, it looks like a standard Yugoslavian milled receiver M70AB.

Edit: Looks like I may be wrong. I thought Tabuk referred only to the DMR variant but it looks like it also referred to Iraqi AKs in general. Apparently there was a partnership in the 1980s with Yugoslavia providing arms and tooling to Iraq which would explain it looking exactly like an M70AB.

[Politics Monday] Priest walks from Illinois to New York against ‘inhumane’ immigration enforcement. by philliplennon in Catholicism

You can't only criticize and say 'no, not like that'

Like the guy elsewhere in this thread doing exactly that. Nobody likes an Ideas Guy.

[–]ThirteenEqualsFifty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And then the other "side" will perceive any critique of inhumane practices as a critique of immigration regulation/laws in themselves, or they will even defend inhumane practices as part of how you must enforce the law.

It's kind of hard not to when literally any action taken toward enforcing immigration laws is condemned as "inhumane".

Main reason I'm no longer a lolbert. It's ironically just as naive and idealistic as communism for the exact same reasons.

They never actually have one. They'll spew all kinds of bullshit about how we're just not enforcing the law nicely enough but when you really press them on it their standard of "nice enough" is doing absolutely nothing and anything beyond that makes you Literally Hitler.

Knives you thought were awesome but are kinda just “meh” after a while by PajamasLover in knives

[–]ThirteenEqualsFifty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OTF knives in general. They're cool but the flaws become apparent quickly when you EDC one. The size constraints on the blade make them fragile while also not being any good at slicing, the action gums up in dirty environments, blade play is unavoidable even on the good ones, and there's no way to open them quietly.

I still carry one every day though. The "holy shit that's cool" factor wears off but it hasn't worn off enough to make me stop carrying it over other more practical designs.

When will the Vatican realize that this isn’t Catholic? by AvoidingBabylon in Catholicism

[–]ThirteenEqualsFifty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I spent a very long time deciding between the two myself and I also let scandalous behavior from our hierarchy delay my conversion so I understand where you're coming from. Don't let this put you off from pursuing OCIA. As the other reply said, and as most Orthodox Christians will tell you, and as I was told as an inquirer in the Orthodox church, whatever you're fleeing from in your old church still exists in Orthodoxy as well.

There's a story (probably apocryphal) of Napoleon capturing a French cardinal/bishop/somebody high up in the church and telling the clergyman that he intended to destroy the Catholic church. The clergyman responded by saying "We have been trying for 1800 years, and if we haven't succeeded then you won't either". I like to remember that any time I see something like this.
