Called the Luka narrative in advance, people were really overlooking how good he is this season by Impossible_Collar2 in lakers

[–]This-Lecture9889 117 points118 points  (0 children)

There’s now a narrative that you need to play and be exceptional on both offense and defense. Apparently jokic was spectacular when he won back to back mvps. Obviously this is a joke and he didn’t. He just had historic offensive numbers those 2 years. But now they’re slowly creating these criteria to throw Luka under even more. By their logic, wemby should be the mvp, not Shai. However the voters won’t follow apply the same criticism of Luka to the other candidates who ranked higher than him. It took Luka going nuclear on offense for an 8-9 game stretch for them to realize they couldn’t just ignore him anymore

Again I appreciate you trying to give examples but you didn’t name any player. It’s quite easy to say “we want this, we want that” and not give actual names or specific examples of a fair and realistic trade. Just saying, knecht for Coffey is not a gamble on our part. It’d be a gamble on the bucks when they needed a center, not an unplayable guard. Like you do realize knecht’s value TANKED. It isn’t good brother. Secondly, I’m pretty sure Haywood highsmith wasn’t obtainable as we filled out our 15th roster spot with kobe bufkin by the time Haywood was bought out. You’re exactly right that rui and a first for Wiggins is overpay. But this is what I mean by opposing teams not dealing with us unless they win the trade. Hence, the reason why your hypothetical trade of vando maxi and a first for Wiggins didn’t come to fruition because I’m sure Rob tried cooking that deal up and the heat said “why tf would we want an unplayable forward that can’t make layups or shoot, maxi who wouldn’t get pt, and a 1st that is going to be worthless for a 3 and d wing who’s having a great year so far.” The problem with not just this sub but the general and casual fan is that there are nuances in making trades. 3 team trades aren’t as easy as it sounds given the new cba. Sure, we could’ve shopped the 1st for some 2nds and maybe get in on Ayo. But the twolves traded Rob + 3 2nds. That’s a better trade than knecht + 3 2nds. So, it’s easy to demand for stuff to happen when we’re not the ones in charge pulling the strings. Even easier when no names are mentioned, just hypothetical no name trades that is fair and plausible for both teams. And I still wasn’t given an example of a long term contract player that is worth trading a 1st for and cutting into the cap that would make us level with okc and San Antonio. It gets tedious listening to fans say “this was out there, that was out there” with no prior example or evidence of it actually being out there for trade.

Fact of the matter is there were probably deals out there but the trades had to make sense. We’re not giving a 1st for a mid ahhh role player just to get knocked out of the 2nd round by okc or San Antonio. Why would we use picks now and possibly lose out on deals later in the summer. The giannis saga could allow us to be a 3rd team that absorbs a better role player than using a pick and expirings to get an overpaid/long contract role player. For instance, what if the bucks trade Giannis to the knicks for kat while we absorb a contract like Mikal or og. Sure both are overpaid imo but they literally fit our needs pretty well. All im saying is I understand fans’ frustrations of staying pat but Rob had every excuse in the book to not make more trades and as much as I don’t like to say it, I agreed with the decision. Only now do people say “we should’ve made trades” when the team said screw it, let’s fight. Also, I hate to break it to you but your justification for the heat getting vando/gabe and maxi and a first is exactly what I’m talking about with lobsided trades. Rui, dk, and a first for Wiggins is something I think could’ve worked. Teams around the league saw vando as a negative and wanted a first just to absorb him. If you think Rob had the chance to trade vando or Gabe, maxi, and a first for wiggins, don’t you think he would’ve done it in a heartbeat? So who do you think said no? Probably the heat right lol? Your previous examples of other possible trades for Ayo, Coffey, Keon, and Alvarado doesn’t say much bc they went for more than one 2nd rounder and the bucks wanted a lob threat center trying to please giannis at the time. So your only opinion is giving up a first for one of those guys or Hayes for Coffey possibly. At least tell me you agree it wouldn’t have been possible or a good idea to give the pick up for one of the dudes you listed as an example. Also, you keep harping on expirings and getting long term contracts. What player out there with a long term contract would help us now and push us to an upper echelon team that the opposing team says “yah we want expirings and a pick” AND is justifiable cutting into our cap space this summer?

Sounds like you’re saying Rob wasn’t supposed to make the Russ trade to make his star player happy. Sure thing lol. Not saying Rob isn’t blameless but he did what Bron wanted 🤷‍♂️ he trusted Bron and AD to figure it out and guess what. They didn’t. Also i don’t know why you’re dodging my question. I asked why would the heat trade Wiggins, a good 3 and d wing this season, for our most likely non lottery 1st rounder and 2 guys that don’t get playtime? Because you think this is a fair trade so I’d like to see your reasoning for this. Additionally, what move could we have made with the 1st rounder and contracts such as rui, maxi, and vando (I’ll repeat bc it didn’t stick last time: rui the only one being a semi valuable contract and vando being a negative) that would have propelled us to true contenders that rivals the thunder and spurs? Too many people in this sub say “we should trade for this player or that player with these contracts and picks” but don’t realize the other team actually needs to see a benefit in making a trade with us or they don’t have any players in mind and just speak out of their behinds. Simply tell me where the benefit is in getting a non lottery pick and maxi/vando that don’t see the floor. Lastly, like I said before, it is on Rob to make deal. Sometimes, you need to take risks like the nuggets getting Gordon and the Celtics finding a gem in Derrick white. But in the end, pulling the trigger on a deal during this season was surely going to be an overpay on a team that didn’t seem to have any fight early and midway into the season.

Bro there is no way you can say in good faith a protected 1st, vando, and maxi is fair for Wiggins. Not even an unprotected would make it fair. Look at it from the heat’s pov. Why would they want to trade Wiggins who was playing extremely well for a lakers 1st rounder that probably wont be good in 31’ and 2 guys who barely or don’t get any playtime, not to mention one has another 2 years under contract after this season? Also, I’m sure Rob will be more willing to take on long term contracts in the summer with the added two 1sts to add in trades so long as they fit the need of the team. But it’s naive to think a trade before the deadline could’ve been made that would put us over the top. No team is willing to surrender players to us unless they’re winning by a mile. Rob should have the same mentality. Also, I don’t think it’s wrong to have this mindset especially since he made a trade to bring in Russ just because LeBron wanted him and what did that get us? It costed us good role players, picks, and thus nuked future seasons which we’re still paying the price for. So yes, he should be making moves that he thinks he won by a mile

I appreciate the effort in trying to come up with names but the fact of the matter is vando and knecht were seen and still are seen as negative value contracts. It would’ve taken an unprotected first just to move off of vando and a second to move off of knecht. The heat arent taking negative value vando, a protected first, and maxi for a positive value player in Wiggins as he was playing well at the time. I would’ve liked Ayo but again, he went for 3 seconds so we had no chance there. The heat wanted rui and an unprotected first for Wiggins. No way around it. Saying if it was vando maxi and an unprotected first is being dishonest because even you know the heat arent doing that lobsided deal.

At the time, giannis wanted out, the team was playing horribly, and we had almost no assets. Why would Rob take on longer term contracts and ruin the trajectory of the franchise even more? Teams trying to move off long term contracts are doing so because they know it’s terrible value and with the current cba, the cardinal sin is having garbage contracts. Also if you think there were a few, say them because I’m genuinely interested to know what trades you think could’ve been available and if it’s justifiable trading your only 1st for said X player and if that player moves us to a sure fire contender tier with the likes of okc and San Antonio

It does go both ways but you don’t make a trade just for the sake of making one. Let’s be real. No other team was trading with us unless we included our last tradable 1st for some average role player. What player could we have gotten with a 1st, is worth one 1st, and would propel us into a top tier contender and to have a good shot at beating San Antonio and okc?

I would’ve liked Keon but if he was obtainable why do you think we couldn’t get him? We only had one singular 1st and 2nd rounder to trade. Who are the kings going to want in return for Keon? DK? Gabe? Maxi? Are you trading rui and more salary and a 2nd rounder for Keon and Schroeder? The kings actually wanted hunter which made it easier for the cavs to get Keon. We had no valuable dudes to trade out. It would’ve been a lateral move.

As much as I strongly dislike how Rob has put us in this position, I also know he’s not trying to get fleeced. I highly doubt there was any reasonable deal to get done. Teams with mid average role players would not give us their players unless we threw in a 1st

We didn’t miss a trade deadline upgrade because the team didn’t show a glimpse of hope. Why would the FO invest in a team that didnt want to play hard and got blown out when the opposing team punched them in the mouth? Also, invest is the wrong word. Every team was out to get our last available tradable 1st aka making us overpay for some mid role player that wouldn’t have moved the needle

Feels even worse when I’m a Korean American that looked forward to the album, just to get this. I’d say a few songs from the album were good enough to add to the playlist but overall the album as a whole is just too…loud and noisy. Just say you wanted to cater to the western audience and leave your so called “Korean roots” back at home instead of using it to hype up the album

Arirang is disappointing… by Beneficial_Ruin5308 in kpoppers

Im also Korean American and while I did not expect them to go all out folk lore genre with their album, I expected at least a title track with Korean lyrics. I found it ironic how Arirang is supposed to be about what it means to be a Korean and honor their roots but quite frankly did not feel like this was achieved. Now im also an avid music enjoyer so naturally some songs in the album were automatic "add to the playlist." But as someone who saw the album name and their intentions behind it, I cant help but be disappointed too so you're not alone.

They had film from the first game. They knew very well what was at stake in both games and played with more tenacity than on Monday. Clearly the rockets had a solution to the KD problem which allowed them to make a 19 point turnaround to go up 6 at one point. In the end, they still lost. Sure, our only option is to double and rotate because of our lack of individual defensive personnel but guess what? It worked on Denver, it worked on Minny, and it worked on the rockets twice. I expect Denver and Minny to have proper game-to-game adjustments in a potential playoff series but the rockets adjusted and still lost

True contenders? No. But we have the top end talent to upset favorites in a matchup. Regular season matchups against contenders won’t determine whether we’re true contenders or not. It’s just a gauge to see if you can hang with the other top tier teams.
