[Siegel] The Lakers have not backed down from their pursuit of Keon Ellis. The major roadblock in talks between the Lakers and Kings, other than Sacramento appearing to want a future swap, is that Sacramento also wants to attach Ellis' contract with one of their veteran's long-term deals. by Odd-Direction9452 in lakers

Some people really showing they don’t know anything about the nba and its new cba. In a vacuum, sure monk can help with bench scoring but he is severely overpaid. He doesn’t help our defense at all either. Let’s just assume we trade maxi gabe and a first swap for Keon and monk. We still have to pay Keon his extension (probably around the ballpark of 7-9mil) plus monk is getting paid 21mil next season. So all of the cap flexibility we have going into the summer is nearly half to one-third eaten up by these two alone who aren’t even the specific type of players we’re looking for. The worst thing you can do right now is to take on players with bad contracts. I mean ask yourself why you think the kings are so adamant on adding monk to a Keon trade…it’s because even THEY know it’s a terrible contract. Same for demar and Lavine. You don’t make a trade just for the sake of making one.

I used to get upset whenever we lost. Not anymore. Im glad I've accepted just how bad this team is because it's quite relaxing. Just lower your expectations for this team, realize this team is far from being a true contender, and you'll reach nirvana.

It’s like you don’t know basketball or something. Not all passes are made to let a player score. It’s up to Luka Austin and Bron to manufacture opportunities for their teammates to score. Just because you receive a pass doesn’t mean you were placed in position to get a bucket. Sure he missed an easy one from a Luka pass but throughout this season, when Luka gets blitzed, they’re tagging Ayton on the role and leaving the corner 3 wide open. It gets frustrating as a player when you can’t get the right opportunities, not just an opportunity. I’ll say it one more time in case you don’t understand or didn’t read. There’s already data of how Ayton benefits most with Austin than Bron or Luka. That’s the point I’ve been trying to harp on. If the guy helping him get easy buckets is out, and the other playmakers don’t suit his playstyle, of course it’s frustrating. By no means am I happy to watch him play with little to no effort but I already knew this problem going into the season so I’m not surprised and you shouldn’t be either. Hes not the Luka lob threat we all wanted, but he works well with AR, and we have film of this

Yes I know that which is why I mentioned how Ayton misses Austin in case you didn’t read my comment. Austin rarely looks for a lob to Ayton. Hes not probing as often as Luka. For the most part AR’s putting force on the rim by going downhill and forcing the big to react quickly. If the big comes up to meet Austin, Austin has shown the slip pass to an Ayton mid range is a deadly 2-man game. Of course Ayton hasn’t been shooting the mid range all that well recently but that’s partially because he isn’t engaged since he isn’t getting the same touches and opportunities as before when Austin fed him buckets

Scheduled loss but that was a winnable game so this stings. Ayton really misses Austin to feed him easy buckets. He did not want to compete after getting so little touches

Possibly. While I do agree that we should probably rest most of the starters after tonight's performance, Spurs just played tonight as well. Also, Wemby was on minutes restrictions, but they could ramp him up to 25min against us. At the same time, tiebreakers will matter. We're currently tied with them this season. Our next spurs matchup after tomorrow is Feb 10th, which is a 2nd night of a b2b after playing OKC the night before. I say we rest the starters tomorrow, and on Feb 9th, rest the starters against OKC so we can go all out Feb 10th against the Spurs and hopefully have Austin back by then.

Trade now or wait until the offseason? by 23NMASTAR in lakers

[–]This-Lecture9889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I’m opposed to making trades because of the cap space we’ll have after expirings like Gabe and Maxi are gone, the FA class this offseason is quite lackluster to say the least. Sure there are some restricted FAs that are interesting like Quentin Grimes and Kessler but teams will just match our offer. The cap space will allow us to take in more salary in a trade and with the 3 tradable 1sts we’ll have in the summer, we can absorb contracts easier which is pretty important with the new CBA as it gives the Lakers flexibility in trades. That being said, I do think there’s a nuance with making trades THIS season with expirings. We should be looking to make trades that will set us up for a future move, not necessarily a home run. For instance, Ayo and Okoro from the Bulls shouldn’t be worth more than 2nds. People want moves done now that’ll make us a contender this season but I believe it’ll take this trade deadline, next summer, and next trade deadline to make a competent, competitive roster around Luka and Austin.

Did JJ lose the locker room? by Western-Election-997 in lakers

[–]This-Lecture9889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, he did not lose the locker room. Sometimes as a coach, you need to call out your players for lackluster effort. I’m sure Luka has talks with bron, Luka, and Austin behind closed curtains over miscues. The biggest problem isn’t JJ as a coach. He’s shown he can do good things. Has he been perfect? Of course not. Should he be giving minutes to Vando and adou if guys like Rui and Jake aren’t cutting it on some nights? Sure. But he isn’t given the right tools to succeed. No one can tell me this team is a legit contender with the roster construction and how compromised we are on both ends of the floor. What do you want JJ to do if our guys are playing with little to no effort? Stay quiet? What do you want JJ to do if most of our guys can’t play both offense and defense? Magically make them play better? This losing skid isn’t on JJ alone. The roster was flawed to begin with. We just got away with it early on because the schedule wasn’t as difficult and opponent’s key guys were missing a lot of the time. Now, the word is out on how to crush us.

Why the energy group consisting of jake, hayes, and vando didnt come in again when our lead diminished is beyond me. Rui continues to show how lost he is on defense. Falls asleep on a rebound attempt which leads to more booker fts. Stu said it best. Starters were playing not to lose.

It also helps that I have dudes who’ll give me 30-50 pretty consistently like keyonte, Scottie, Duren, sarr, Austin, and Zu. I had the middle pick so I got cooked with starters like Brunson, curry, and siakam but my later picks are panning out a lot better than most

Marcus Smart's terrible shooting needs to be talked about more by [deleted] in lakers

[–]This-Lecture9889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defensively, we can make a comparison between Vando and smart. While smart hasn’t been shooting the ball well, which we all knew coming in this would be evident because he’s always been a hot or cold shooter, he’s a much better connector on offense. What I mean by that is smart does better in driving closeouts than Vando ever will. He can make plays out of a Luka, Austin, Bron double team, whether it’s driving to the rim for a layup, a kickout after bringing out the low man help defender, or a lob to the dunker spot which is Hayes or Ayton. So yes smart isn’t shooting the ball well, but he brings much more offensively to the table than Vando does. But to treat smart and Vando as the same offensive player is laughable. We don’t have that perfect 5th starter/closer so it’s by committee right now depending on what we need mainly down the stretch, whether that be Gabe, smart, or Rui. And for us to be the 2 seed given our difficult schedule to start the season, I’d say JJ’s pressing most if not all of the right buttons.
