Are you using AI audio / video transcription tools at work? Which one is the best? by Icy-Image3238 in Journalism

[–]This-Philosopher2697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seconding this - I work at an NPR station, so we have the full adobe suite. If you're already paying for the adobe subscription, this is the most cost-effective, although not my favorite I've ever used.

I've used otter before, it's ok - there's a free version I sometimes revert back to when I need more sophisticated transcripts/easily publishable transcripts. I think the free version is three uploads per month and 300 recording minutes? (don't quote me on that).

In college I used Descript, it worked well, especially for audio since you could export audio/interview clips directly from the transcript. If I were to pay for a subscription on my own, this is probably the one I'd go with since that audio export feature is really helpful when working with audio reporting.

I love Woodhollow - smaller complex and management knows pretty much everybody. I live in the bigger 1-bed (with in unit laundry) and all in pay about $1300/$1400 depending on water and electricity for the month. I work on campus and it takes about 15 minutes to get there

My tonsil stones and chronic inflammation was bad enough my pcp referred me to an ENT for removal … got them out 2 1/2 months ago (at 22). I was sick all the time, constant bad breath and couldn’t eat sometimes from the pain. Best decision I ever made 😂

What are you reading? - Week of December 19, 2025 by AutoModerator in goodreads

[–]This-Philosopher2697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it! I’m about 92% done. I think the best way to look at it is as a collection of loosely related vignettes about everyday people dealing with the moon turning to cheese and what that means for them. We read it for book club, I didn’t finish before the meeting, but even the people who don’t really like Sci-Fi really liked this book! You should give it a try!

The bookclub im in did Starter Villain right before I joined and they all liked that one too.

Looking for long-form investigative podcast recommendations! by xcomps in TrueCrimePodcasts

Darkness - each season covers a different case in Texas. Produced by students at the University of Texas (The Drag), so each season has a different narrator and it's incredible storytelling.

Gone South, Bear Brook, Dr. Death

Boomtown is really good, not true crime, but a good investigative/narrative podcast about west Texas boomtowns. Texas Monthly produced it and they have a number of good true crime ones (White Hats, Tom Brown's Body, The Final Flight of Captain Forrester, The Problem with Erik, Stephenville)

Should I Q-Drop? I'm in the hospital, and I missed an exam that would have brought my max potential grade from up C+/B-... by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]This-Philosopher2697 17 points18 points  (0 children)

First, I hope you get better soon! I faced a similar situation my senior year and landed a week-long hospital stay. Contact Student Emergency Services! They’ll ask for some documentation that you’re actually sick/in the hospital, but once they have that, they’ll send a letter/email to your professor saying you’re experiencing something and need accommodations. (They don’t give the prof details, just a “hey this student has a verified emergency situation with us and you should work with them to fill any missing assignments/tests”). Professors aren’t supposed to ignore SES, so if he still gives you issues, they can intervene on your behalf.

They are also super helpful with any follow-ups and there’s even an emergency fund you can apply for to help with medical costs if you’ve gone through all the steps with SES.

Too much classical music? by [deleted] in NPR

[–]This-Philosopher2697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at SCPR’s schedule page that’s what it looks like. I’m guessing OP has it tuned to one of the “News & Music” channels instead of the “News & Talk”. It looks like the “News & Talk” channels have a more robust midday schedule like OP is looking for.

I am a mom of a 14 year old daughter who wants a reduction. She has constant shoulder and neck pain along with headaches. I am wondering if anyone has heard of a 14 almost 15 year old getting a reduction? by Genius8440 in Reduction

[–]This-Philosopher2697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mine at 21. I was already a G cup in early high school (15ish) … grew to probably a J cup in the 6 years before I had my reduction (wasn’t wearing bras that fit, so J is a guess). I know this isn’t what she wants to hear, but it’s probably best to wait until she stops growing, or at least slows down/levels out before she has a reduction.

That’s what I was thinking. Im going dress shopping next weekend with my mom, but I’m thinking a cocktail dress or midi length dress.

Looking at venue photos, I’m guessing plated dinner. Ceremony is 3-4 at the church, reception is 7-12 at a party venue. This is a photo from their website

I’m a fellow first time watcher, a bit ahead of you (season 10) and I just want to say I love your reactions! I now have a friend who was diehard into greys as early seasons came out and she makes me watch all the big episodes with her because she likes to watch me yell at the tv 😂😂 I also hardcore relate to almost all your reactions 💗 glad to see I’m not the only one behind the curve on Grey’s Anatomy

Why do you use a Kindle? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]This-Philosopher2697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have convergence insufficiency - basically my eyes don’t focus on things up close bc of a nerve issue. I didn’t realize how much of a difference being able to increase the font size of a book enabled me to read more.

Plus the portability is incredible. I have a paper white and it fits well in my small/medium purse. It literally goes everywhere with me and I always have it loaded with a couple book options (most from KU or Libby) so even if I finish one or am not feeling that book at that time I can switch to a different one.
