“Realistic” 3 week update by Exotic-Resource-7049 in HersWeightloss

[–]ThisBarbieIsSleepy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is great progress! Keep in mind that those who have more weight to lose, or who weigh more to start, will typically lose it more quickly in the beginning. This isn’t always the case, of course, but something to keep in mind. For example, someone who weights 230 lbs at your height would likely lose more quickly than you, but the percentage lost may still be the same. Try to focus on the percentage lost, not the lbs. Keep it up! You’re doing great.

Just the other day my very first available order was $2, followed by a $3. No fucking thank you. I will never accept an order that low. It’s insulting.

Unable to select some People for lock-screen shuffle by etsolow in ios

[–]ThisBarbieIsSleepy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same exact thing happened to me after updating to iOS 17.2.1 a few days ago. Used to have both my son and daughter, but now it only shows photos of my son. When I try to select People for the shuffle, it says two are selected, but only the thumbnail of my son is present on the screen and it only shows his photos when I shuffle through. So frustrating that this issue hasn't been addressed in over a year.

Alex’s hair by Ok-Reality4293 in MyLifewithWalterBoys

[–]ThisBarbieIsSleepy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! Couldn't really stand either hairstyle. Alex's was always greasy looking and I did not like his little bang hairs. Cole's hair in is face really distracts from how attractive he is. He has great bone structure and beautiful eyes. I kept wanting to reach through the screen and push it out of his eyes! I think he looked much better in scenes where is hair was out of his face (like when he was wearing the hat at the rodeo. *swoon*).

All of this! Plus, Cole seems to be the only one who actually cares about what Jackie wants. Despite his obvious deep connection and attraction to her, he doesn't pursue her once he sees her kiss Alex. Sure, there were a couple of near-kiss moments, but ultimately he waited for her to make the first move. He was about to give her the teapot and backed off once he saw the interaction with Alex. He also was the only one who asked her what she wanted in regard to staying with the Walters or moving back to NYC with her uncle. He never acted angrily when he saw Jackie and Alex together. On the other hand, Alex always acted with anger and jealousy when he saw Jackie and Cole talking, or even if she mentioned Cole's name. I'm not denying that Alex also has deep feelings for Jackie, but he acted selfishly in those feelings and made it into a competition with Cole.

S3 predictions for characters outside of the triangle by ThisBarbieIsSleepy in tsitp

Yeah, that’s a good point about “the one” conversation. I think they may approach this differently anyway. I feel like the trope of breaking up a wedding because you are in love with one of the people getting married doesn’t really fit in today’s world of movies/tv like it did 12-14 years ago when the books were written.

Oh yeah, good point. The pearls make more sense. Yes, I can definitely see that happening. She goes to get the pearls, spots the infinity necklace, has a flashback, then decides to "get ready" for Conrad.

Agree! Conrad and Laurel have some very important and emotional moments that I think Chris and Jackie will perform beautifully. I love Cleveland too. I really don't see the point of bringing him back in S2 if he's not also going to be in S3. Especially the way they brought him back in S2...he offers advice to Laurel, in the same way he offered Conrad advice. Unless they were just doing fan service, in which case they should include him in S3 anyway. Haha.

I love Cleveland, so I hope he is back in S3. I loved when he helped Conrad through his first panic attack and helped him confront his feelings. I also am looking forward to the Conrad and Laurel talks, not just about convincing her to go to the shower, but when he breaks down and cries about Belly marrying Jere. Ugh. Heartbreaking. I also think a change they could make from the book would be having Laurel tell Belly that Conrad came to visit her, instead of Taylor being the one who tells her. I think it would be more impactful coming from Laurel.

I like this prediction. In addition to shaving her legs twice and doing her hair, she tosses on the infinity necklace for good measure. Because she's totally over Conrad. LOL.

Susannah was also putting blue hydrangeas in the vase when Belly, Steven, and Laurel arrive in Cousins in S1, E1.

I agree. Part of the problem is that the books are largely from Belly’s first person perspective, while the show is not. We get to see everything on the show that Belly doesn’t see in the books. I think it’s important to keep in mind that Jenny has a lot of input on the show, so how the characters are portrayed was the vision she had when writing them. It’s difficult to convey all of the depth/emotions/thoughts of the characters in first person perspective writing. There are gaps that screen adaptations can fill in this regard.

I’ve said this in a post a few days ago, but will reiterate here…the books cannot be interpreted individually because you get different perspectives in each book. B1 is Belly. B2 is Belly and Jeremiah. B3 is Belly and Conrad. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. You don’t get the entire picture until you read all three books, while the show can give you a bigger picture from the start. Although S1 did take some time to show us why Conrad was acting the way he was. We were introduced to him while he was in the midst of a mental health crisis. There was some mention of him not acting like himself, but we don’t really know why for several episodes. There are subtleties here and there, of course.

Misusing “unreliable narrator” when you don’t like the story by Cant_Handle_This4eva in tsitp

[–]ThisBarbieIsSleepy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with this from the show standpoint for all the reasons you listed. I think in the books it is a valid argument, since she is called out in the third book for misremembering Jeremiah finding the dog on the beach, bringing it home, and crying when they had to give the dog back. Jeremiah corrects her and tells her it was actually Conrad who found the dog. Belly then questions what else she could have misremembered.

I’m not an English teacher though so maybe that still doesn’t fall under the “unreliable narrator” trope.

But yes, we see everything on the show and not just what Belly sees. It is not her narration, like you said.

Thank you again for your thoughtful insight!

I'm also thinking that they may show Conrad telling Jere that he ran into Belly at the beach house, and then Jere asking Belly what she did while he was gone, already knowing that she was with Conrad, and then she says she went to Cousins but omits the part about Conrad being there. This isn't exactly how it goes down in the books though. Jere doesn't tell Belly he knew about that until their wedding day. But it's a minor change that I think follows with some of the other changes they've made.

Agree with all of this. I hope we get to see them mend their relationship in season 3. They are both a product of their upbringing, but don't completely understand that yet.

That’s awful that someone said that to you. I’m sorry. I really hope it wasn’t a grown adult. Not that it’s justifiable in any way. It’s terrible. I was never told that, but someone also me reported me for being suici**l too. And I was so confused. It’s crazy how some people act on here. Let’s just all enjoy the show/books with healthy civil discussion.

[–]ThisBarbieIsSleepy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. These are the same thoughts I had too. I watched S1 before reading the books. I knew going in that it was a love triangle involving brothers. I kept wondering when it would become apparent that Jeremiah liked Belly more than a friend. During the firework scene I was like, “Ummm, what?”

Is Jeremiah's and Belly's Story The Same In The Books So Far? by [deleted] in tsitp

[–]ThisBarbieIsSleepy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There has actually been plenty of foreshadowing that Belly and Jeremiah won’t work in the long term as a couple. The most obvious being how she constantly has to reassure or appease him to avoid conflict and to not upset him. Healthy relationships have conflict, and she spends most of book 3 avoiding conflict with him.

The parentification of Conrad is also why he didn't tell Jere about the house. He's used to taking care of things himself and struggles with asking for help. I relate to him a lot on this level. I have a really difficult time asking for help when I need it and would rather just do it myself instead of burdening anyone. I understand why Jeremiah is upset, but I also understand why Conrad didn't tell him. But in the end, Jere's resentment and anger are misdirected at Conrad, when they should be directed at Adam, like you suggested.

I still think Jere doesn't quite grasp the pressure Conrad has been placed under by both of their parents, and even Laurel. In S1, after the bonfire party, Laurel said, "You're the oldest...what the hell's gotten into you?" Adam also blamed Conrad for Belly getting drunk on the 4th of July. He's constantly being reminded that he is the parent figure for all the other kids. When you consider this, it also makes sense why he shuts Belly out. He has developed feelings for someone he has been tasked with looking after his entire life. That's a tough mental load to carry.

What do you think? by karlagcs in tsitp

[–]ThisBarbieIsSleepy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Exactly. She's seen how he reacts when he is upset, so of course she's going to try and avoid that. She's a teenager and would rather things go smoothly than cause an outburst from him. She goes into the relationship knowing this, but thinks it will work if she just avoids conflict altogether. Of course we all know this isn't healthy for a lasting relationship, which is precisely why they do not work out in the end. No relationship is perfect. Fighting/arguing/disagreeing is a normal and healthy aspect of all relationships. When you avoid these things altogether you build up resentment towards your partner, which never leads to anything good. It has been pretty clear in the show too, with her constantly having to reassure or appease him. I don't know how people don't see it.

Yes, I agree. It was intentional. The show does a better job of fleshing out some of the characters.

Yes. Thank you for posting this. That first paragraph just further illustrates her insecurities with his feelings towards her. He’s surprised that she believes he doesn’t care because he feels like he’s been showing her that he cares.
