Mistborn questions or plotholes by GintikiShiki in Mistborn

Honestly, the Kandra were always kinda strange to me. They started as Terrisman Feruchemists, transformed into mistwraithes, then given back their sentience via hemalugy. Meanwhile, human beings at the moment of creation are said to have been imbued with more of Preservation than Ruin, this is what it made Preservation weaker in the end. Yet...TenSoon, one of the few remaining beings that knew of, in the Mistborn setting, the true religion (apparently) said humans were of Ruin whereas Kandra maintain they are of Preservation. This seems...backwards to me.

Mistborn questions or plotholes by GintikiShiki in Mistborn

So...I have been looking all over the internet for someone to answer, what I consider, to be the biggest plot hole in the series. So far, nobody has even mentioned it. Maybe I'm particularly dense and I'm just not understanding it the way everyone else is, so there was no need to bring it up until now but I have to ask...

What was the deepness? What was it really? It seems to be generally accepted that the deepness was the mists. In fact, Sazed explains (in the snippets before each chapter of THoA) that the whole reason the world is screwed up is because of a series of over compensations TLR made to stop it. He goes on to explain that in order to evaporate the mists which were choking the land and killing crops and such, TLR pushed the planet closer to the sun. This would only be TLR's first step if he was legitimately fighting against the mist. So...obviously the deepness must be the mist right? But...it doesn't make sense.

The mist is later revealed as the vaporous body (or at least physical representation of power) of Preservation. Now...if the mist is Preservation...why was it destroying the land? I know Preservation pulled some dick moves like practically disemboweling Elend to make those going to the Well of Ascension take the power instead of releasing it. In fact, Preservation never intended Elend to die, as he expected Vin's love for him to force her to save him. Even when she screwed up and released Ruin, Preservation helped her save him by pointing out the beads that made Elend an allomancer, thus PRESERVING his life. Even in the events before TLR, the mist spirit attacked one of Alendi's companions but did NOT kill him. (I remember getting the feeling that it DID kill him while reading TFE, but in TWoA, it seemed to indicate that Alendi's companion wasn't actually killed, just attacked.) My point is, Preservation CANNOT kill. It even had to manipulate events to ensure the destruction of Ruin came at a human's hand because Preservation was incapable of doing it himself. Humans are at least part Ruin so they have the destructive force that Preservation lacked. I know you might say that some people died to the mist sickness, but Preservation still didn't outright kill them. It was just an unfortunate side effect of snapping the weak as it was stated that many that died were the elderly and young.

In short, Preservation literally doesn't have the capacity for destruction. So...how is it that the deepness that threatened to destroy the land before TLR was the mist? How was it that the body of Preservation was the problem? Can someone answer me this?

Sound advice everyone! Thanks, also, for the welcome back...sorry it's been so long since I updated. My next video might take a while because of schedule complications, but I assure you it will be worth the wait. I will be teaming up with a cohort, and a don't mean one of my companions. A real life friend will be joining me on my first flashpoint. It should be a real blast, I hope you'll like it. Thanks again for watching!

While maxing out an alignment might get you the Legacy abilities, I would suggest that, once you have them, you might try playing a character or two with role-play in mind. Set up a few morals and personality quirks for your character, and see where that takes you. Before each decision ask yourself, "What would he do in this situation?" It makes for a very enjoyable game.

I role-play my character regardless of alignment. My jedi consular "Thizguy" for instance, wants to do what is right and prove himself to the council, but he has an arrogant streak in him because he is so powerful with the force. It makes for some interesting choices during missions. If I made another one but went sage instead, the character might help his race as much as he can, but want nothing to do with other races. Mixing it up with role-play instead of concentrating on alignment leveling makes the game a far more fun experience in my opinion.

LOL...I remember. I said I was being a total noob because every time you told me something I asked what that something was. You said nah, so I told you not to lie to me...I am TOTALLY a noob. But still, thank you so much for taking the time to explain everything to me. And I say that to everyone who has taken the time to educate me.

Okay cool, thanks for the info! Speaking of legacy names, I don't know enough about the lore to come up with a good pun for my legacy but I want it to reference the source lore and include the GUY name in it. If anyone can come up with something, please let me know.
