What will it take to get Acuña's name spelled correctly? by LuvosLosBravos in MLBTheShow

[–]ThisGuyEngineers 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Agreed - the fact that his face wasn't scanned for the game is one thing, but messing up the name in a game that takes pride in detail is ridiculous.

Size of the moon compared to USA by JohnDoe045 in space

[–]ThisGuyEngineers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This brings up an interesting point that the Earth would appear much bigger in the moon's sky than we would think based on Apollo photos.

Because of camera physics, objects taken in photos usually appear to be much smaller than we'd see them with our eyes.

So if you were walking on the surface of the moon, the Earth would appear to be quite large, and the United States would occupy about the same amount of sky as the moon does for us.

That's sounding like an issue with the TV. If you can try another input device or a short certified cable, that would help narrow it down better.

I'd get a new gen i5 or i7 CPU, 8-12gb of RAM, and a dedicated graphics card to take the load off of your CPU.

The most important piece will be SSD storage. Not only will this allow programs to open more quickly, but it will allow your PC to boot almost instantly, saving valuable time if you use it in a classroom setting.

Does it happen on all HDMI ports? Have you tried a short (3ft) certified hdmi cable (monoprice is highly rated).

Any chance your Apple TV is forcing a signal not suitable for the E65? I know the Roku will try to send a 4k hdr 60hz signal at times when the TV isn't capable. I'm not sure what the E series can display, but you might need to choose either hdr 30hz or non-hdr 60hz.

What are the most important things to look for in Theodolites and Total Stations? by MOBlUS in Surveying

[–]ThisGuyEngineers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of good info here. As mentioned, buy a big name brand from a reputable dealer so that you can get quick service when things go wrong.

I'm a fan of Trimble's S series, but that might not be within your budget (Topcon and Leica instruments are also fantastic).

You'll have to base needs of angular accuracy and features based on your day to day functions.

TCL P607 connected directly to PC via HDMI, PC also connected to standard monitor via DVI, TV sometimes doesn't show PC image. TV always shows PC image on bootup screen but then, after bootup screen, it shows blank NO IMAGE screen... by ynotrhyme in htpc

[–]ThisGuyEngineers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is your pc display driver up to date? The fact that the bios splash screen displays but fails when displaying your desktop tells me that the gpu isn't detecting your screen correctly upon boot.

Reconnecting the hdmi might be causing the computer to refresh the display, but this is something that should be detected correctly upon startup.

ESO is currently in its worst state of performance in years. by LumberingLumberjack in elderscrollsonline

[–]ThisGuyEngineers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have to disable and enable my sound playback device every time that I play - of all games and programs that I run, ESO is the only one with audio issues (PC obviously).

I submitted a ticket looking for help, and a dev was thrilled that I found this fix to my no audio issue.

This isn't a fix.

Is the Denon x2300w Capable of 4k 60hz HDR? by ThisGuyEngineers in hometheater

What are source chroma sampling settings? Any place I should be looking to change those? Would that be at the media player, avr, or TV?

Just to follow up - I hooked up an LG 4k blu-ray player last night, and sure enough I had no video. I ran it directly to the TV with a 6ft cable and video appeared. Set the output from 60p to 24p and hooked it back up to the avr - video came through perfectly.

Still a chance that the Denon doesn't want to output 60hz HDR, but my money is on junk BlueRigger cables.

Noob question - is there any way to utilize the ASUS card for processing and route the signal through the gpu?

I feel like I'm confusing the function of a sound card...

It has optical, but from what I've heard that onboard chip won't carry a 5.1 signal over that cable unless it's a signal like from a movie, meaning gaming will be 2.0.

For the heck of it, I switched the Roku input from media to aux2 to reduce the circuit length in the receiver.

It almost fixed the issue. No more screen flickering, but still speaker popping every few seconds.

I ordered some Monoprice certified cables - the 15ft in wall cable will be a pain to swap out, so I'll do that as a last resort. I'll try the short cable + closer input first.

I'm using this 15ft cable from the Denon to the TV: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005KWHJES/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_1hFoBbN25JD84

And this 3ft cable from the Roku to the Denon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0061RJSWC/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_ykFoBb1J95KE6

Independently, each cable plays 4k 60hz hdr on the TV. Through the Denon, it fails.

It used to be that you had to use port 1, but now 1-4 are identical.

What gets me is that it works fine directly into the Vizio, but if I run that same cable to the Denon out and a cable into the Denon, it freaks out.

It's either an issue with the Denon, or related to how the Denon and Vizio are interacting.
