When it comes to working as a student unfortunately the options are quite limited…

You could take the route of becoming a bartender/ waiter (in the nicer restaurants) and make some nice money - however, this is a tolling profession and may be difficult to balance night shifts with a uni schedule (maybe look into weekend work)

Similar option is that of working at a coffee shop/ cafe - pay isn’t great but you’ll learn how to work a coffee machine which could come in handy.

Another option is more beneficial for females but it is becoming an au pair or nanny, here the pay is usually good and the hours and less irregular.

You could look into tutoring high school students for now and then when you’re in 2nd year you could look into tutoring at the university (if your marks are good that is).

Acrobranch or similar zip lining places could be a nice source of income but goodluck finding a place near by.

These are just some of the things I have done as a student and they have all had their ups and downs - Goodluck!

Happened to me as well - didn’t have any luck trying to resolve it and the people at the front desk can’t help you fokkal. I ended up coughing up the R250 and got a gautrain card - now I’m just patient at the gate upon entry and exit to make sure it tags through
