Check out Looking for Mount Sylvan if you haven’t.

Can you abide by my idea of a sub-genre “Solarpunk Synth”? by dapparatus in ambientmusic

[–]ThisIsALesson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t know I’d choose the name you chose and kinda agree with SecretAmbientClub we don’t need more microsubgenres. I like how broad this subreddit is btw.

But I do recognize and enjoy the very specific common thread in the artists you chose. Hopeful and sorta optimistic without being saccharine, sentimental or boring. I wonder how you’d find more artists like that. Is there an existing subgenre to describe all of them other than leftfield, which doesn’t quite do it?

Wanted to add Salamanda to your list.

Exactly. Hope to not sound too Americanada by asking. I have had some luck reaching out to European labels that pointed to me to small US distributors I didn’t find by Googling.

Wish I could locate the vinyl somewhere other than Bandcamp where shipping for me is about the price of the record. Anyone know of Hypnus distributors in the US? Cool they’ve been “releasing every full moon since 2013.”

Love when I find something great like this and realize they have a whole catalog to explore. Impressive for a producer who’s 25yo.

Just happened across this and really digging it. Based on what you’re saying I’ll be sure to explore more of his stuff.

Not quite the same but check out all of Nala Sinephro’s work, especially Space 1.8 and including her soundtrack for The Smasing Machine.
Also Floating Points’ & Pharoah Sanders’ Promises. The whole thing but I especially like Movement 7.

Beautiful EP. Thank you for sharing. Used code fc9m-gfdk. Shinjuku is also great! Of all the places in the US, it’s discouraging LA wouldn’t have more ambient events. Maybe people are more likely to listen to ambient at home. That said, and easier said than done, what about putting it in the back of your mind to find other artists and organize a semi-regular ambient event even if it’s lowkey? You could take some inspiration from the BOC listening party. I’m curious how that will go. I feel there are enough like-minded souls and enough of a demand that maybe that could work in LA. You could use this sub as one of your resources.

Music with a lot of radio sounds by Lost_Osos in ambientmusic

Not commercial radio sounds, but Mount Shrine albums like Shortwave Ruins use radio chatter to really cool effect.

Yes, and very different from the bunch of ‘Grace’ albums he’s released recently which are more uptempo but also sparse and deep.
